      I started with 1 chicken that was kept with roosters i got her for free and she kept laying for 2 weeks and went broady i gave her back her eggs 12 and 11 hatched that was 8 months ago now i got more then 90 and god knows how much quail 😂😂😂 they are super easy to multiply i could probably get more than 160 more by the end of the year if i want but cant handle that much i am keeping it under 100 on purpose

    Sand is really cold. Pick one up and check it's feet for a chill. They're making too much noise meaning they are cold. Watch out for pasty butt. You will lose a lot if you don't observe them closely. Good luck.

    • @Ludlamfamilyfarm
      @Ludlamfamilyfarm  16 днів тому +1

      Thank you for your concern but we didn’t loose one to pasty butt. Sand is what is commonly used for large operations like this and we did our research and provided plenty of lamps for the chicks. They were not making the noise because they were cold. A good way to tell if they are cold is if they are all huddled together. We spent a lot of time observing them and making sure they were well taken care of.

    Just found your channel. We have (6) 20 week old chicks. Rhode Island Red & wydonette. They'll eat the cheap feed, which turns out to be mostly dust (waste of money). So, I've been slowly introducing them to feed with the good stuff (corn, seeds, peas, etc). Hopefully, they will adjust and start eating it. Then again, we probably winded up with finicky eaters 🐔 😞 😂

    • @Ludlamfamilyfarm
      @Ludlamfamilyfarm  4 місяці тому

      Congratulations on your new chickens. I hope you enjoy them. We started with 20 and we just kept getting more because we loved them so much! Ours eat just about anything. Lots of food scraps and I cook them peas, beans, lentils and pasta. It ends up being much cheaper and in my opinion better for them. We do give about 4 bags of food a week because it is much more convenient. They also forage several acres.
