I’ve enjoyed your reviews through 2024 but I’ve also really enjoyed reading the comments from your viewers. They do not all agree with your assessment but they do it in a very respectful manner. Whisky should be a conversation and I’m grateful to be part of it. Cheers and all the best for 2025.
Thanks for the review Jim! I’m a fan of this one and have had quite a few bottles…..I will say that there is quite a flavor and color difference from batch to batch. For me, I have found that the lighter color batches are better and much more complete.
Thanks for shining a light on this Old Pulteney, Jim. Have tried several expressions from Old Pulteney and as long as they're bourbon matured I like (and/or love) them, especially the higher ABV ones. The sherry matured expressions are not my thing. Slàinte mhath
Flies under the radar a bit but generally good value and tasty. I have tried their first two coastal range finishes which are pretty damn good. Miss their 17 year old but have a couple in my stash 😅
Havent revisited Old Pulteney since they dropped the previous core range. Huge fan of the 17, but keep hearing the current 15 and 18 are struggling to live up to their predecessors whilst charging a premium, so… a ‘thanks, but I’m good’I reckon.
If you can find it, I can seriously recommend The Flotilla (10 yo). It's a limited release, if I'm not mistaken, but on the other hand not especially hyped? A couple of months ago, I bought a bottle - uncorked it, tasted it. After that, I immediately decided I had to get a backup if possible. But I gambled and waited for Black Friday discounts and then bought the backup bottle 15% below the price of the first bottle. Seriously amazing whisky for the price (in Denmark in the Glencadam 10 and Arran 10 ball park)
Finished my 15 recently. I always enjoyed it, but it had no real hooks. So it lasted on the shelf a good while, not often reaching for it. But when I did, tasty! And I think its standing really elevated by the time I reached the end. Was a strange one. Not sure I'd replace, but I want ro try the 18 or more OP (with an ok ABV) next.

Old Pultney is one of the best brands of whiskey in the world for the money, they’re underrated.
I had it at my local whisky fair recently, and I really enjoyed it. The 18 was better, but the increase in price between the 15 and 18 is substantial.

@@maltymission cheers Menno. The last one I had was the nas Huddart which...I don't remember much about so...🤷♂️. Won't rush back to OP.
@@WhiskeyNovice I even completely forgot about Huddart. Think I tried it once and that says it all I suppose...

My main complaint with the 15 is the use of way too active oak. The tannins are just too aggressive
