Had a 1995 F350 Dually with 7.3 at 490,000miles, that I sold to buy a 2001 F250 Crewcab at auction for $7000 in 2012. The F250 now has 533,000 miles on it, and being I'm 70 years old, I'd bet the 7.3 out lives me ! We'll see who wins that race as I don't ever plan on selling it !
Damn, ours has about 350k on it, and she's a keeper. Mine was stolen 3 mo. ago, got it back in 3 weeks after it was stolen. As most know that seldom happens, it was found by USBP in Laredo, TX. the thieves were running drugs in it. I know my wife and I got lucky, you just never see a stolen vehicle again, or there is nothing left of it. We love our 2002 F350 4X4 SRW crew 8' bed. We had our first date in it, plus it's a big, black, tinted out, cool looking truck. I was amazed the prices they bring when I started looking for a replacement, I had to do a lot to it to repair the damage done, and to theft proof it for the future use. I spent 2 weeks removing all accessible door locks. It is now electric only connected to my alarm/kill/fob. You can break into it through the windows and get in, but if you had MY keys you couldn't start it, the hood is chained and locked, and we have Lo-jack. Make sure and theft proof your truck guys, they are becoming very popular with the thieves, and the Cartel. Oh yeah, she has a LOT of performance mods.....
@@charon9205 A friend of mine had his truck stolen, the thieves filled it will gas right before the cops spotted it and arrested them. Bottom line, they filled his gas for him LOL.
I dont care what anyone says but 7.3 is the best pickup truck diesel engine of all time , period. My dad has had 3 7.3’s and still have one of them that i would like to be my first truck. It has a tune and after market exhaust. Its front end and driver and passenger doors are off a 6.0 and people always get confused. It sounds so nice and still runs perfect. 7.3 is the best diesel ever
@OutdoorSavage 0123 ...I will beg to differ...the 7.3 powerstroke is a good v8 diesel, but i'm a mechanic so I prefer inline 6 truck engines...for pickups I don't think you can do better than a 5.9 Cummins,...the 6.7 Cummins is better since all the emissions, being the 5.9 couldn't keep up with the 6.7s
Go try to find a clean good running 5.9 cummins without rust. The only ones that are still running good and are clean are either built or are sema builds. Where i live you cant go a day without seeing or hearing a 7.3.
@@Alex-gt2qf so how does it make it just as good, for half that if you’re a man and do the work yourself you could be making 500hp or with the extra 5k you could get a lift/leveling kit and wheels
yess! the ford dodge chev argument is always wrong cause up untill ford actually started making there own motor outsiders make these diesels! i will say my 05 dodge has been the worst to work on as in its not a rust bucket but has the yrs on it, but every bolt breaks from rust if i need to work on something
The 7.3 is a t444e but international also made a legend that my self a cat guy and anyone that knows diesels will admit the dt466 and its family of engines excluding the Navistar engines or electronic controlled versions. Leave it stock will last longer then everything around it or build it to 3000hp and it will hold that power.
Yep, a Good Ole IH (International Harvester) Corn Binder. I dont JUST own a OBS 7.3 But also a IH Scout with a 345 Complete frame off rstomod that have taken me 7years now. BinderPlanet - Project Double D's. Check it out!

I'm taking the fam on a 12 month 10k mile road trip in the states towing 20k lbs. I started looking at $60k-$70k fords and chevys newish to tow and after weeks I'm thinking of just buying one of these with 180k miles on it for under $15k. Can I get you thoughts on that. My wife is tripin on the high miles but it seems like a smarter purchase.
@@noahziegler3478you will be fine sir. My wife tripped too😂 I have 445,185 miles on my 7.3 right now. I can give you that specific number because I am sitting in my truck. But for real I think you should buy it. If I could find one with that many miles I would jump on it. It not even broke in yet😂
@@suzgabverdugo933I bought a '97 w/ a bad 460 in it - 186k miles and "blow-by," to the point where the air filter is being saturated. Anyhow, I've been on the fence as to whether or not to sell, but now il thinking it would be worth the investment to put a 7.3 in that bad boy - the body is clean, and it would hurt to part with such a beauty...
Seven years ago I sold everything and retired to the Philippines. The hardest thing to part with was a lifted 97 F-250 XLT with a 7.3 that I purchased new. I've owned several diesel trucks and still drive a diesel here in the Islands daily, hands down the 7.3 motor for me is the most reliable I've had. Nothing sounds like a 7.3 with custom exhaust, I miss that truck.
My grandfather is 60 almost 70 years old, and owns a dairy in lakes region New Hampshire. He bought a brand new 1997 F350 dually with the iconic 7.3 Powerstroke and zf5 manual transmission. He still has it, not sure how much miles are on it, but still runs clean. He has gone through his number of doors and fenders, like all trucks, however the transmission and engine run perfectly. The “mods” done to it is a stainless steel flatbed, put on about a year ir so after he bought it, and the classic OEM west coast mirrors designed for that year truck. Do I wish it would be my first truck? Yes. However, the frame has had patch work done to it, and the cab mounting bolts may not be as strong as they once were. I have found countless 7.3s that would be perfect for me, and it has always been my dream to own one.
Grandpa had a early 1999 7.3 bought it new used it to drive to Mexico and back never skipped a beat now it’s been past on to me with only 93 thousand miles been my dream truck definitely doing some upgrades to it.
I have a '99 F250 with the 7.3. Has around 326K and runs like a champ. Mine is a long bed, 2 wheel drive and I love it. Pulls like crazy. Just a great engine and truck for me.
I come from a 7.3 family, mine is 2000 excursion 7.3 , my oldest son has 2000 f350 dually cclb 7.3, my youngest son has 2002 f250 cclb 7.3 and my grandson has 2 7.3s 2000 cclb and 97 reg cab, my brother has a 2002 ecsb, they are all 4x4s. Awesome trucks.
I own a 2001 F350 with the 7.3 and it has never failed me, except for when it was new. An 'O' ring failed on the high pressure pump and spread oil all over the engine and the clutch. A new clutch and some cleaning has cured that problem. Onward!
My grandpa had one when I was a little kid, I remember the rhythmic clacking of it's injectors as he'd pull his truck up to pick me up for the weekend. Now, almost 20 years later the truck is being gifted to me :)
we have a 2002 Excursion with the 7.3. Its got the top end rebuilt, with a turbo. Not much more fuel then stock. It never roals coal, if that tells you anything. People say they're slow, but ours aint half bad I dont think. Gosh I love that truck. My dream rig is a early 2000's F-250 with a 7.3.
We got rid of a 99 with 7.3 aww man neighbors still got it with little over 600,000 when we had it the odometer didn’t run for 3-4 years. Seen it yesterday still whistling on down the road.. no 💨
@@jaketrat3725 heard alotta issues out of the ZF6's but on a 7.3 i'd take a ZF6 over the 4r trans my 6.0 i got much much rather have 5r110. 5r110 pretty much indestructable from the factory. and mines stage 4 billet. from red diamond diesel. no issues putting 700 hp 1400 ft lbs of tourqe down at the rear wheels for over 130k miles now.
I got a '97 7.3L that's lifted 8" with 37x12.50r17 along with 5" stacks (straight piped obviously) and it's just a solid truck all around. With the ZF5 behind it and the king pin dana 60 swapped in up front it's a beast! And with 4.10 gears and a tuner it'll pull anything even with the 37s
Fun fact, my grandfather lives in Dawsonville Ga, and sold liquor and beer (illegally of course) out of a place called “the smokehouse” in Dawsonville, and when Burt and Jerry came through during filming, they stopped and my grandfather sold to them. Got some photos, and autographs.
I dream of having a 7.3 one day. I'll be 18 in April of this year and it's so hard as you said to find just decent examples of the trucks for sale. I just hope I live long enough to own one. They are so reliable and nostalgic, I just have to turn my head every time I see or hear one!!
@@jamesyates9378 Just bought one woth 390k miles at 19y/o. Keep an eye out they ppp up occasionally. It helps if you're in the south. Rust belt eats away at all vehicles.
@@jamesyates9378 Just bought one at 18 (19 in 2 months) for 6.5k with zero rust and only issue is something with the front tank. Other than that it's awesome. It took a BIT of finding but it eventually happened, like he said just keep at it!
I'd say Cummins despite the transmission it's a rock solid engine depending on which one but the early 12v was a dependent engine especially with the Manuel plus this engine had amazing torque and could be one hell of a work horse
7.3 pulls like a dream. It’s a strong monster. Not the fastest but the strength is worth it. If you’re pulling for short or long distance, you won’t notice a ton of weight behind you. It rides like a dream too. That’s why I love it. Pulls a ton of weight with ease, rides smooth and reliable. I am curious how the new 6.7 performs though.
Hello Zach! I Bought my new 7.3 F-250 Crew cab, short bed on Feb 1st 1997 at 44 years old. 28 years and 436,000 mi later and interior is still like new, exterior is close to it. Had dozens of offers over the years and even a couple recently. I still Love it, but don't worship it and each time that I climb in it's like the first time. I hope that you get your grandfather's truck and able to restore it a little at a time and have fun doing it. God Bless you young man!🙋♂️
I have a 97 F350 7.3 with over 400,000 and still going and just bought a 97 E350 club wagon extra long 7.3 with only 172,000. Love the 7.3 and has never let me down.
Currently building a 1995 F250 7.3 regular cab 4x4. Bought superduty axles and plan on doing an 8” lift. Has American force wheels on 37s, 5in exhaust, sinister tip and adding a set of amp power steps and power back window. Already gets thumbs up and it’s still parked on the driveway. Great engine and cool body lines! Becoming harder to find clean parts.
Have a '96 F250 w/ only 150k miles and love it... TS6 chip w/ Swamps tunes, CTS 3 monitor, MBRP exhaust, and an aluminum 7.3 intercooler w/ E99 spider and Carson Stauffer pipes. Great truck and gets a lot of love no matter where I'm driving it. I wanted one for a long, long time and I'm glad I've finally got my hands on one.
My company truck in 2003 was a 2003 dump body DRW F450 7.3 and I loved it. A couple years ago I purchased my very own 2003 SRW F350 7.3 with 225k miles. I knew of the issues with these engines around 250k miles so I replaced HPOP, IPR, IPC, CPS, injectors, all sensors and connector plugs, glowplugs, fuel pump, fuel lines, deleted the fuel pick up with a sump, installed a pre-pump canister fuel filter and water separator assembly off of a CAT engine, installed Riffrax crossover to eliminate dead-heading, rebuilt the turbo and pedestal with a wicked wheel impeller, installed a Mishimoto trans cooler, installed an AirRaid intake and battery tray system, rebuilt the fuel bowl, and painted the valve covers and all parts I removed white to easily see any leaks before they become costly problems. I am over 250k miles now and I see 17.5mpg like clockwork each Friday when I fill up on my way home from work to enjoy the weekend with my family. I only run Schaefer’s oil and Motorcraft filters. I enjoy my 7.3 each day I drive it. I plan on rebuilding my 4R100 trans to make it bulletproof in a year or two.
Just found a 2000 7.3 6 speed clean as they come with 120k miles for 9k it doesnt have any rust. Im so excited because ive been looking for 5 years to find it. I remember growing up cruising in a 95 7.3 f350 i loved that truck
Recommendation… 5.7 hemi or any 3rd generation hemi. Unless it’s a Cummins there’s not much Ram content on here. Us Mopar guys with modded hemis need love too. Other than the MDS lifter issue on later trucks it’s a good platform to build on
I suspect the exhaust back pressure tube was probably clogged especially if the truck is tuned. Common maintenance thing. It fills up with soot, the sensor can’t get a good reading, and fuel economy tanks
I have a 1999 7.3 F250 and I love it. It's slow but it sounds like a diesel truck should and it's reliable. Managed to find one with only 153k miles and no rust on it last year and instantly pulled the trigger on it. Best decision I ever made
I jus bought a 1999 F350 7.3 manual shift 6 speed 4wd crew cabin long bed. I love so much about it the short shift trow, the 4 wheel disc brakes, the milage... Thank you for this video and a few things to watch out. If you are ever in Charleston SC...
Own a 7.3 with 95,000. Old guy had an Excursion hidden in his barn that he used to haul a trailer or something light. Love the 7.3 and don't need to roll coal or do burn outs. Bought it to haul my trailer until my kids take the wheel.
I owned one wish I still had it was a tank in the winter and pulled what ever I wanted. Plus the sound it made with an aero turbine resonator was amazing
My 1996 F-350 is running around 500-550HP. Engine is reliable, it sounds great and gets around 13-16 mpg. Just head studded the engine and put a banks intercooler kit in it…reliable engine but can’t say the same about the transmission :’(
That can be solved according a good friend of mine who swore he could build me a quality transmission out of my E4OD, after this transmission failed a second time, but the first time was a converter failure, so it was replaced and nothing else, second converter failed almost emeditly, but I believe it was the transmission, who would think that a converter would fail so fast, and it was a good quality but only a single clutch set up, so after pulling it out and taking it to my friend, he found the issues and that my transmission was actually in very good shape for the miles on it and the burnt torque converter, he replaced it with a triple clutch converter and rebuilt the transmission with Kevlar racing clutches and we put a deeper sump pan on it that doubled the pan capacity, I was looking into going manual or possibly Alison or a C6 with a gear vendors overdrive, all options would have cost me way more money, but my friend has been doing this for over 40 years and promised me that I couldn't break it, we will see, but do have faith in his confidence.
Fuel economy isn't as bad as stated. I just got back from a four hundred mile trip hauling a 4k pound truck camper and my stock 95 350 dually 2wd got 12.5 mpg. Gets 15+ unloaded. Also 365k miles on the clock and runs like new.
That’s exactly what I’m getting now. 15+ with a straight pipe & new filter. Specially staying between 55-65 mph. Best truck i ever owned. Got a 2020 6.7. But i love driving the 7.3 because it’s manual
I would say the 5.9 Cummins is the best diesel ever made and the 7.3 in a close second. I am a ford guy but man those Cummins will literally run forever and never miss a beat
7.3 is the best truck engine. Not even talking about just diesels. Literally never had a problem but I do know people who have had problems with them. Best advice just don’t buy one from a teenager😂you’ll have to rebuild the whole truck
Kind of late replying to this but just came up as a suggested vid. I have a 95 PowerStroke 7.3, 5 s/p manual, extended cab & long bed. If I drive it nice, meaning doing posted highway speeds then can get around 20 MGP whilst towing a light race car on open trailer. Very happy with it.
My grandfather had a 7.3 fresh of the lot back in the day and then my dad bought it of him and I hope I can buy it of my dad. And its still runs to this day
I have a 2000 f250 power stroke 380,000 miles. Only 20,000 in the last ten years. Never had any engine work done besides maintenance. Gets14-15 mpg all the time. Still runs great.
I have an early 01 4x4 193+ Miles on it , I’ve done all the necessary upgrades. My Son has a 2000 4x4 both trucks are crew cabs his has 270,000 it’s his daily driver his also has all necessary upgrades . Wouldn’t trade either for a new truck. I’ve definitely pulled things with my truck that were extremely over the towing capacity with no problems. Last year I rebuilt the transmission under my carport, spent $2,500 on parts The torque converter was $1,500 . A few weeks ago i pulled my brothers 26’ gooseneck with 2 tractors and some equipment on it 70+ MPH trans temp never went above 140 In July. 7.3💪👍
I am building a 96 4x4 crew and I plan it to be the last truck i ever own. The motor in mine has blow by but you wouldn't know it driving it. I found a 150 thousand mile 7.3 that is practically just broke in i am freshening up to drop in it. Some upgrades but nothing to rough on her. I plan to keep my old block to build it may go back in one day. Amazing engine but beautiful truck. Its perfect.
I'm an original owner of a 1997 F-250 HD, purchased in October of 1996. Hands down best truck I ever owned. Don't really use it much anymore, but just can't seem to let her go.
I have a 97 f250 4wd 7.3 with manual 5 speed! Bought her with 19,000 miles in 1998! She has 448,000 miles now! No injectors, glo plugs, etc! Rebuilt front end, one water pump and 4 clutches! Love my truck, people have tried to buy it ever since the day I bought it! Would never buy a new truck like they make today!
Just bought my first ford. I'm a chevy/gm guy... but I will admit I do love my 7 3 excursion. It's a really fun rig for the family and I'm glad to hear nothing but good things about this motor. I only see 12-15mpg (12 city, 15hwy) probably could use a cold air intake/new fuel filter/tune but thats to come in the future! Much ❤️
@@Okk030 nah, I loved my c5 vette, 2001 blazer xtreme, 2007 caddliac sts, and my 2003 Silverado 1500... just saying I like my (new to me) ford excursion alot. Despite how much I used to trash fords
I've a CA '96 F250. stock engine, 247k miles, Diamond Eye 4" freeflow ad Afe high flow air filter. Open road unloaded 17.2mpg. with my 2k lb 11.3 Lance on the back 11-13 mpg.. it's the right foot. Add my Scout that I flat tow and I'm gettting 8-11 mpg... depends on my right foot. She does everything I want her to do as far as performance.
Emissions wasn’t the reason that Ford had to scrap the engine, California changed its noise regulations and the 7.3 was too loud for those standards. Also the 7.3 got an inter cooler when it was put into the Super Duty body style in 1998. Also to answer the last question, I own a 2001 7.3 F350 and it was worth every penny
Could u tell me more about the 7.3 after 1998. I just got my first vehicle it was my moms and grand dads but they like me seem not to know a lot about it. And I’m a newly mechanic in the military and want to learn more on my pov
95 was the year uncle Sam started to clamp down on emissions. That's why anything built after 95 has OBDII. Obviously 3/4 tons don't require emissions to pass inspection. I have the 95 crew cab 4x4 and it's worth every penny.
I'm actually looking at buying a 2001-02 F350 dually 7.3 for towing and a work truck. I really want to find a good one and can't wait til' one is mine someday.
I still find my `99 F-250/7.3/Manual trans the best vehicle I've ever owned (and that is a lot -including Cadillac and Lincoln). It hauls like a truck, rides like a car and not bad mileage either.
After daily driving for almost a year I think it’s a badass motor and the truck it’s in is good too I use it for work and it hasn’t failed me yet! (Knock on wood) I keep up on the maintenance and the only things I’ve fixed so far is a power steering line and the stupid fuel damper has been deleted
I think the 7.3 injection system is what makes it better then the Cummins. I’ve owned several Cummins and worrying about a injector melting down my engine was quiet annoying
I've got a '94 f350 idi crew cab with 494,000kms and even the the rings are obviously worn and burning a bit of oil the thing runs and starts damn fine every time (got a much lower km donor engine to put in it now, but hey, it still runs!)
Love my powerstroke! I put 365K miles on a 2001 with zero issues (never should have sold it). I still own a 2000 F350 that I bought new. It now has 185K miles.....lifetime truck.
7.3 and the 4.9 online 6 was Ford's most reliable engine's made. I had 1997 F150 4.9 it still ran great wen I scrap it just rusted away on me. Now I have a old 2002 E350 with the 7.3 it has 620.000 km and it's still going strong. But I did have to get the transmission rebuild few years ago. Thanks for the post keep up the good work.
My wife and I have 2, 7.3's and 2, 5.9's. 2002 F350 4x4 Lariat long bed, 1997 F250 4x4 ext cab long bed, 2003 3rd gen long bed crew cab common rail and a 5.9 2001 2nd gen short bed Quad cab 5.9. IMHO these are my dream trucks. I've wanted these trucks since they were introduced!! I drive the Cummins and my wife drives the Powerstrokes. I could not be happier with the ability to work on my own rigs. I refuse to buy this new computer for everything era we live in today. I will say I get better MPG in my Cummins, but I love the way both these powerhouses feel!!!!!
Though it’s not the most popular diesel by any means, but I’d recommend the differences of a 7.3 idi and a 7.3 powerstroke. There is a pile of internal differences that many don’t know about!
Bought a used 2005 Excursion with the 7.3 really loved the truck after sitting 3yrs. & 2 new batteries eng. Started right up. With 275k+ miles & unknown history & $8k in repairs (on truck not eng.) was affaid the turbo, transfer case, etc. would need more $$. Had to sell the truck, But really did love driving it.
I own a 2002 7.3 and the only issues I have had with it were all caused by the previous owner doing a lot of his own work on some wiring for a turning that caused my truck to shut off after a few minutes of running. I even replaced the cps and high pressure oil pump before tearing out the tune. My results after was having a pickup that tan and drove like new. I am looking for recommendations for a turbo and Injector set up

I cant get enuf of them ! Now I am old and will have to figure out what I am going to do with all this stuff. LOL
I'd say so you want a 1st gen tundra. There not a lot od content on them, they are forever running trucks, kinda like a gasser of the 7.3, and they can be made fairly quick for not much. There's not a lot of widely available aftermarket but that is changing too.
I had my '00 V8 Tundra for about 10 years and besides general maintenence it never gave me any issues at all. That thing would just keep going and going. Sadly I had to sell it to get my Duramax as I needed a bigger truck for towing purposes but I wish I would have been able to keep both. Gotta love how Toyotas maintain their value as well. Bought it for $10k and then 10 years/100k miles later I was still able to get $7k for it.
@@cmcd082 yup... I had an 05 it was dads since new and mine up until a month ago it got hit by a drunk guy while jt was parked. I love that truck to death had 180k on it and I could go on a list for hours about the days and weeks I spent custom fitting and fabbing stuff for that truck. Even after being slammed at 50mph in park with all that bent stuff still drove home haha. They are invincible for sure
@@jaxaboi7999 that they are, I added a bunch of custom stuff to mine as well as the aftermarket items available for the 1st generation were not nearly as popular as the '07 and up.... great engine that would just work every time... the only complaint I ever really had with it was replacing the starter. Why they decided to put it under the intake plenum is beyond me.
Use one for work every day! As a kid my best friend dad had one one the farm. Hauled 33000 pounds with it hauling lots of big bale's. Worked it way hard then after took on dirt roads jumped it and going 95! Truck was hard to break!
Love my 7.3 PSD is awesome!! Love the beast!! A real truck in my opinion, although the new ones look great, there is nothing like the OBS and 99-03 Super Duty 7.3 PSD!!
Stock motor is great, albeit lacking the 32v head and valvetrain of a modern Powerstroke (even the 6.0 had 32v) and so HP is hard to make without studding and replacing coolers. One of my tenants has a 7.3 that was tuned and now it's blowing head gaskets. I have a studded 6.0 and a 7.3 IDI but I've stayed away from 7.3 Powerstroke because there's no HP unless you want to build up the motor, which leads me to buy the cheap $5k 6.0, since the need for high HP still requires bulletproofed, studded trucks.
I have a 2000 7.3 Super Duty with that i bought in 2002. It's in perfect condition and has 116k miles. I drive it short distances almost every day and use it to pull a goose neck horse trailer and a camper. Its akways been kept under cover and is beautiful truck. I'll sell it some day, but not now.
I traded a 1989 suburban with a low mileage built 6.2 turbo diesel for a highmileage but well maintained and pretty clean 2001 f250 quad cab 4x4 with a 6 speed. Driver seat is worn, lid on the middle bench seat is damaged. oil stains on the carpet. just passed 450,000. I had a shop replace the injectors and some controller no issues so far and averaged 18mpg on a trip with it I don't think thats bad for it's size at all. All stock, previous owner replaced the turbo with a stock one and I still have whatever the old one is its slightly larger. Surprisingly on one trip with the Suburban I averaged 22mpg when I had 33's on it. The old surbuban with the built 6.2 was pretty quick for a 6.2, I think it was the higher lift rockers and the 18:1 pistons the previous owner used, head studded, main girdle. Had mil-surplus 36's on it for a long time, a nv4500 transmission. almost no interior, no radio or a/c but the heater worked great. I'll take my high mileage f250 any day, much more comfortable truck to drive but I don't want to take it offroad and abuse it like I did with the suburban though.
i guess all of our dads were power stroke heads. mine loves sbc and bbc performance engines and 6.0, 6.7, 7.3 ford towing trucks. i’m trying to understand what he understand
Not only would i own a 7.3 Powerstroke, but I do own one. It is, however, the new body style, a 2000. Very little smog and bonus forged internals. I just bought it with 373,000 miles and drove it back to California from Nevada. She's not perfect, and I'm doing all the maintenance all at once, so I have a baseline for the what is likely to need repair in the future.

@HighCountryRambler hopefully it was a 460 and not a 7.3 😂
I dont care what anyone says but 7.3 is the best pickup truck diesel engine of all time , period.
Where i live you cant go a day without seeing or hearing a 7.3.
i think 6.0s are just as good as 7.3, the only difference is you need to put 10k into the motor 😂
Exactly
@@Alex-gt2qf so how does it make it just as good, for half that if you’re a man and do the work yourself you could be making 500hp or with the extra 5k you could get a lift/leveling kit and wheels
The 7.3 wasn't a ford made motor but a international Inc which is legendary in the diesel community
That's what I came to the comments section for...
yess! the ford dodge chev argument is always wrong cause up untill ford actually started making there own motor outsiders make these diesels! i will say my 05 dodge has been the worst to work on as in its not a rust bucket but has the yrs on it, but every bolt breaks from rust if i need to work on something
Did international make the powerstroke 7.3 as well as the idi or was that ford? I'm a little confused on that part.
Yep, a Good Ole IH (International Harvester) Corn Binder. I dont JUST own a OBS 7.3 But also a IH Scout with a 345 Complete frame off rstomod that have taken me 7years now.

Damn 2010hp in 1994 must've been wild
I definitely wanna see what it takes to get a 7.3 up to 2010hp. I don't think I've ever heard of one getting to 1000hp, let alone 2000

Emissions wasn’t the reason that Ford had to scrap the engine, California changed its noise regulations and the 7.3 was too loud for those standards.
We have like the same truck lmao. Mines just a '97.
Still driving my 2000 7.3 and loving it
The Loud purr of the 7.3 is comforting.. KNOWING you will make your destination and home.
My 95 has 1.5 million km on the clock. The body rotted off so I did a body swap. Still using it daily with no major issues
We have 4 7.3l with 700k on them best diesel hands down! Never done nothing but maintenance
I just bought one. I can see why people love it so much.
Same here. I just picked up an early '99 7.3 with 190K miles. I completely understand why they are considered one of the best diesels out there.
Hard to beat the 7.3 I've got a 97 7.3 as my backup truck for when my 6.0 is down
So then you would always be driving the 7.3 because the 6.0 is always down lol😭
@@OutdoorSavage-zy9cv I've actually had pretty good luck with my 6.0 lmao typically when it's down its bc im adding upgrades
Same here
how is it daily driving a 7.3?
@@Doveproductions73 I prefer my 6.0 only because I have remote start on it so my mornings are easier when it’s cold
It's called the 7.3 international power storke
Though it’s not the most popular diesel by any means, but I’d recommend the differences of a 7.3 idi and a 7.3 powerstroke. There is a pile of internal differences that many don’t know about!
Can you explain more
The only things the engines have in common is the displacement and they are both diesels
i have an 97 f350 crew cab long box dually black out. i love it very clean
I just got my 95 and I’m so excited to get started on it!
I am looking for recommendations for a turbo and Injector set up
I have a 2002 f350 that just broke 400k and I'm trying to build. Being a Montana truck she's got some rust but she runs like a champ
I’ll run my 7.3 forever. Great truck. I love the 6.7 also. Can’t go wrong with both.
I have 3 Ford trucks..92 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 with a 460 (161k original miles) and new E4OD, 96 F250 extended Cab 4x4 7.3 auto with 39K original miles, 97 F250 extended Cab short bed 4x4 7.3 and the ZF5 manual 227k original miles and another 97 7.3 engine with 110k original miles. I cant get enuf of them ! Now I am old and will have to figure out what I am going to do with all this stuff. LOL
I'm a little late but when I was watching this I looked up and smokey and the bandit was playing and my jaw dropped CRAZY RIGHT
The 7.3 is the absolute best diesel,I have a 96 F-250 and 02 Excursion,
And looking another one,I love them🤪😜
May 2002 2wd 7.3 on 35’s got around 18 when pulling 2 cars
Bent the frame whole box is fucked axle is bent and the insurance is jerking me around saying the can fix it with 4k.
I have a 02 and honestly the best truck I ever had!
Use one for work every day! As a kid my best friend dad had one one the farm. Hauled 33000 pounds with it hauling lots of big bale's. Worked it way hard then after took on dirt roads jumped it and going 95! Truck was hard to break!
I’d trade my 6.7 power stroke for a 7.3 before you could say “click clack”
I’ll trade you
Lol I did
Love my 7.3 PSD is awesome!!
Most fans aren’t interested in building a motor out though at least in my case. I think most of us are content with bone stock
I have a 99 7.3 and I am putting a 2002 7.3 in !
The plenums on the old are 2" the plenums on the new are 3" !
Which plenums are best ?
Cool story!
i guess all of our dads were power stroke heads.
mine loves sbc and bbc performance engines and 6.0, 6.7, 7.3 ford towing trucks.
i’m trying to understand what he understand
Not only would i own a 7.3 Powerstroke, but I do own one. It is, however, the new body style, a 2000. Very little smog and bonus forged internals. I just bought it with 373,000 miles and drove it back to California from Nevada. She's not perfect, and I'm doing all the maintenance all at once, so I have a baseline for the what is likely to need repair in the future.
