I believe the 1996-1997 F250/F350 with the 7.3 diesel will always be the best truck ever made. For the cost, for what it does, the simplicity of it, it gets good mpg, will last forever, looks great, tough, durable, sounds great, cheap insurance, cheap parts the list goes on and on. Sure, a new 80k diesel will run laps around it, but too many things go wrong with them and they are incredibly expensive.

I’ve had 2 of these trucks, & had a 95 PSD as my first truck.
Then later on I sold my 95 PSD automatic & got a 93 7.3 idi ZF5 to have the option of alternative fuels, cheap to fix, & simple. Zero computers to control the truck no check engine light & its great.
    She’s my baby & I love her.
She’s my dream truck... well close enough.
Ext cab 2 door, long bed white, ZF5 7.3 idi/mechanical diesel, front & rear ranch hand bumpers from my 95, Bluetooth stereo, cloth seats w arm rests.
All of the good parts I had from my 95 interior that made it great, I put in my 93. I’d get another OBS in a heartbeat.
These OBS trucks are really hard to find clean anymore, & when you do they’re $$$.

The best trucks in the history of the planet were built from 1992-1997. The '80-86 and '87-91 trucks were the same platform but the '92-97 were the perfect blend of modern and old. They also last forever, especially with a manual. The entire engine range is legendary... The 300 6 banger, the 302W and 351W, the 460 and of course, the kings, the 7.3 IDI and Powerstroke.

  • @Dappersworth
    @Dappersworth 3 роки тому +2

Well lucky me and my brother then. We have a 1994 f-150 5.0 XLT 2wd regular cab long bed.
We re-built the top end of the engine completely.
Tore off the cylinder heads, taken to a shop that replaced all seals, cleaned off everything.
    ARP head bolts.
Replaced all gaskets head gasket and above.
I painted the heads ford red.
And painted the valve covers satin silver.
    Scrapped the entire EGR system.
Replaced "stretched" stock single roll timing chain with a new double roll.
Deleted the mechanical fan, replaced with two electric fans.
Scrapped the entire stock exhaust, put on equal length long tube satin silver jegs ceramic coated headers.
I welded up the entire exhaust, using as many stainless pieces as possible, with both of us designing the exhaust.
Dual exhaust, H-piped (helps with have only one O2 sensor, as well as low end torque), but not just any dual exhaust.
We put stacks on it dammit! They stick up right behind the front of the bed on the sides.
Added a 450W inverter laying around to power a 135W house stereo subwoofer laying around. And a nearly 1000 CCA AGM battery. Because yes.
Also added aftermarket headlight assemblies, with Hikari LED highbeam bulbs.
Added 5 kenworth cab lights from the 60's, legit ones.
Added sidemarker amber lights for the front of both front fenders.
Added long skinny trailer LED tail lights between the tailgate and the bumper, and one to replace the stock brakelight above the rear window.
Added reverse/backup lights to the trailer hitch.
Replaced all brakes and wheel bearings with new parts, including rear axle seals. (Fuck drum brakes omg)
Currently has new mud tires, planning on replacing them with street tires.
    Added a painted steel toolbox.
Replaced the aluminum scraped up ford placquered badge thing on the tailgate with aluminum diamond plate because hell yeah.
Rebuilt the differential, new carrier and crosspin, kept all the gears, replaced bearings on either end of the differential.
Also gave the front a 2 inch lift to level the truck.
And bypassed the coolant going through the throttlebody, because why the fuck would coolant go through a throttlebody.
    Added a tachometer.
    Added spiked lugnuts.
Eventually going to replace the steering gear because damn the steering is sloppy. A large dead space when changing directions.
Going to add amber marker lights onto a flat polished stainless sideskirt, 4 on each side.

I hope someone loves my truck some day when I don't need it: early 95 F150 XLT 5.8 w/tow pkg I purchased it in Feb of 97 (did not like the rounded nose) and have loved it since! 272k miles and just now having to replace stuff - water pump, radiator, gas tanks, bushings, tie rods - thinking TPS & vacuum next. That engine has started every day I needed it! Interior still looks new-ish but paint on roof needs a going over. Oh, and I do still play my cassettes in it ... may need to upgrade that some day. Enjoyed your video - just strange to hear a young person waxing poetic about a truck I purchased new-er .... sheeze I'm getting old.

While minding my own business, I tripped over this video. I was present on this earth for the entire production run of these vehicles. Long video with a lot of information, not all of it spot on, but none the less, mostly good info.
First off, with the exception of a few body tweaks, and the obvious tech updates such as efi and creature comforts, these trucks from an engineering standpoint where the same from 1980 to 1996. As I know it, the 1980 f100 and bronco had a lightened frame with large oval shaped holes in the webbing, these trucks are best avoided, but by now probably next to impossible to find anyway. I don't think this effected the f150 but can't promise. As far as engine options go, I think maybe a few cleavlands made their way into maybe 80, or 81, but I'm pretty sure they were 400s. Again can't be absolutely sure. As for the front suspension, I honestly think that there is a lot more crowing about it than actual problems. I can tell you from experience, we treated some of these trucks like we were off to win the Baja 1000 and didn't break them. That being said, they did have some strange quirks. Steering feel on road was vague, but so were all the others, at least in the early days. Off road they worked pretty good. It was an independent suspension with the durability of a solid axle. As a matter of fact, had a few friends bend their Dana 44s trying to keep up with us! But alas, I'm not really trying to play salesman here, but I can tell you that I wouldn't waste a lot of time and money changing one out unless I really had some special purpose in mind. Anyway I'm going on here, but these trucks are a big part of my history, I know them well and have lots of good memories! Wish you all good luck in your endeavors!

So, I'll buy my friend's '64 with a camper attached.
It hasn't run for 18 years, but my friend Wendy told me that I don't need to worry about things.
