This is how to remove an Audi A4 / A6 Quattro drive shaft. It's pretty easy. The transmission / front axles should hold the car, but any time you remove a driveshaft with the car on the ground, make sure the car will not roll by using the e-brake and wheel chocks, as the driveshaft is most often an integral part of a transmission's ability to keep a car from rolling when it is in park. Removing the Audi A4 A6 S4 Quattro Drive shaft is easy, it's just a few shields and bolts, Audi driveshaft carrier bearing, and the whole driveshaft drops down.

Well lets not forget the cutting of the exhaust without removal (2:14), I didn't see this step covered in the video lol? I think some people may want to know that exhaust has to be removed or unbolted and laid aside before you can start unbolting the the prop shaft and deflector shields.
hahaha Yea the exhaust probably needs to be moved....but there should be a video somewhere on this site to cover that. I cut that off a week or more before removing the driveshaft so I didn't think of it.
Man I have 2002 A4 b6 1.9 tdi quattro 131hp, I can remove the bearing to use one more new?
I like how you had to stop video as you tried to say « literally » 🤣 thanks for video man
Don't use Allen keys, use a tors socket or you will strip them and then you have to cut the heads off, pull the shaft and then try to get the rest of the bolts out. Been there, done that.
What did you use to cut the head of the bolt off because I stripped the last bolt🤦♂️ and have just been trying to drill through the bolt but broke 3 bits so fsr
@@ezraneace sawzaw or hack saw or dremel
@@justinkremer7371 using a grinder 👌🏼
@@ezraneace that'll work too
Once you get the shaft off use lots of penetrating oil and heat and tried to get some GOOD vice grips on as hard as humanly possible and 🙏
Stripped one of the H6 Allen bolts. What now? If I cut the head off will I be able to pull out the driveshaft without disconnecting it at the rear diff? Tried everything, there's just so much threadlocker on these that once you strip them there's no way out. Unfortunately I do not have welding equipment.
vice grips if you can fit them on the head of the bolt
@@aDIYCarGuy vice grips are useless. I used a sharp chisel to make a indentation and then hammer around it. Worked out in the end. Whoever chose Allen bolts instead of torx should be stoned.
The driveshaft also needed some persuasion with a hammer.
Stick a bigger or smaller head into the bolt hole then tap it in (unscrew it) then figure out how to get the head out of the bolt and you good
@@Resins_ lol what that doesn't make any sense.
The chisel method I described worked but would be even easier with an air hammer
weld a nut to it, and spin it off.
I am working on a 98 A6 Quattro. I got to the point as described @ 1:40 in the video. That is, the allen bolts (6X at each end) on both the center and rear differentials are off. Exhaust has been separated at the sleeve connectors and dropped and is out of the way. The shaft support bracket (carrier bearing?) is off. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to drop the shaft. I have tried rubber mallet, hammer, pipe, pry bar, etc., and it still won't budge. Any suggestion is welcome.
bigger hammer. lol I'm not sure other than that
Thank you for the reply, and the great video too.
you're welcome and thank you for watching! also possibly soak with penetrating fluid overnight
Finally i dropped the shaft. With limited headroom a 3-lb hammer with a long handle didn't help much. In the end persistence prevailed. Once the rear end is off it didn't take much to detach the front end. BTW do you think the front and rear shaft seals are identical? i have yet to drop the flanges to get to the seals. It is leaking oil at both ends. Your help is much appreciated.
awesome! sorry i'm not sure about the seals
I have a 2006 Audi S4 (B7), well this be the same procedure?
can't say for sure but most likely, you'll have to look at it
Thanks for the quick reply
twinstown01 no problem, thanks for watching!
Can you drive the car without putting the drive shaft back in
Yes
I lik the bonnet keeper upper😁👍
You don't have to remove the exhaust on the 2.8L.
Ty for ur Advice ✅
cool..
A shovel?!
So your taking Audi a driveshaft from a Audi lol my puns
yep that driveshaft was comin audi
a DIY Car Guy yes sir! Lol
@@aDIYCarGuy Hello sir. I recently saw your video on how to remove quattro drive shaft. Does it mean that once the quattro drive shaft goes off, the car becomes FWD/RWD without any modifications.
And you literl... litler... fuckin' hell
🤦♂️
Oh? Fuck you lol
Lol i just wanted to see you actually remove the driveshaft but you skipped it. Beat on the fucker for an hour what a shit design
@@suedereed7630 Oh sorry haha. It should almost fall right off after the last bolt comes out, it's just 2 flat surfaces resting against each other for the most part
Basically right? You would think. Its only in there MAX 3MM you would think. I pulled it. Beat it with a hammer, pryed on it. Those bolts were tight af too.
