    Today, I will bring you through a step-by-step process on how to replace the front CV drive axles on an Audi A6 C5 2.8L 1998-2003 which is also a similar process for other Audi's in this era.
    Often when you hear a clicking noise while making a turn, odds are that your axle needs replacing. The reason why these axles go bad is because the rubber boot that holds all the grease on each CV joint tears and allows the grease to escape and small debris to enter which therefore ruins the joints on the axle.

    My understanding is that the axle bolt should be torqued with the wheel suspended and the final 180 degree turn with wheel on ground.

    Is it different for manual cars

      It may be a little different but it should be fairly similar. If anything you probably need to remove detach the control arms from the carrier to swing it out in order to get more room to remove the axle.

      @@automahntic this is true unfortunately the nut for the stretch bolt is rounded off and stuck so it became a much bigger job! I need to do my control arms anyways
