WD20EZAZ "00L9GB0", Oh boy that last number brings back memories, because it is very VERY similar to the number used on a lot of the early 2000s indestructible Caviars.
If these weren't SMR they would be an amazing bang for the buck. Sucks these aren't CMR, because they are pretty slow to write, especially compared to a CMR WD Blue.
@@cdos9186 It's not like you can't do 2 TB/platter without it anymore, either; the Carmel RP2L platform is the successor to this, and is CMR; underpinning the WD20EARZ, it might still be priced higher, though. I just can't wait until shops stock it.
@@cdos9186 SMR is great for cheap high-capacity drives that are mostly used for cold storage and occasionally just updating a backup so I think it definitely has a place in the overall market.
It's perhaps weird that the cheap Carmel R platform is still in production despite there being CMR alternatives... But turning 1.5 TB platters in 2 TB SMR ones must still be economical.

Pretty amazing story behind this one, hopefully it serves you well! To say you got a good deal would be an understatement :)
I love basic Western Digital drives, also the blue looks so good on the label! Great basic and good-looking drive.
