COMPLETELY agree on Sex Education. Perfectly introduces multiculturalism without appearing to be 'pandering' or making a social statement. Really looking forward to Season 2
The best for me were: The Boys; a different look at the superhero genre and Karl Urban is fantastically diabolical. Barry; a depressed assassin decides to become an actor, but can't shake his previous life off. The way that unchecked mental health is handled is so fantastically done, but it's still so super funny. Plus, big ass crush on Bill Hader. Big Mouth, I watched all three seasons in one go, its gross and I get it; not everyones cup of tea, but, it gets very real about a lot of how shitty growing up is. Plus, John Mulaney. Brooklyn Nine Nine; always fantastic, still awesomley funny - I watch it when I can't sleep. I can't wait for the new season. :D
Same here! I've watched a lot of superhero TVs and movies, but The Boys might be the best one yet. The character development and reveals are sensational. One of my favourite things is how the team comes together through their different motivations
thanks for the recommendation, I completely forgot that I really wanted to watch it ! How ould you describe the main tone ? I was afraid it might be too somber ^^'
@@sonmihae-joo6286 it's very fun and happy, with it taking very serious tones at times bc of the setting of course. it really nicely explores the contrast between being a teenager and falling into HUGE (very small and inconsequential) dramatic problems around every corner with the very real and actual troubles going on at that time in ireland. honestly it's just so, so, SO good and ive watched it back many times, it doesn't lose my interest
Sonmi Hae-Joo it is mostly a comedy but it still makes sure to pay respect to events at the time, no spoilers but this happens especially in the last episode in the last scene. It is something you laugh at a lot but you cry from how close the show to people even if they aren't from Derry at all.
This year my favourite was Years and Years. My god. It was such a brilliant show, but its political commentary was so depressing it left me feeling really awful for a whole day after watching it.
Of course there's loads more!! And currently His Dark Materials has my attention, but Years and Years is so undeniably well written, and it makes it very hard not to appreciate!
the evidence of female narratives in this just tells you how they are SO needed and SO well received. And as a young female film/theatre maker this is so wonderful and inspiring to see. thank you for recognising female work when it isn’t being highlighted by others!! just a big well done to the girls and their stories
@@whereisawesomeness yep, you can watch it still I think. It was an invasion of sorts. Which is funny considering these amazon ads showed up out of nowhere like the ones in the ep
Thanks for the recommendations, I'll definitely check some of them out? Hey, have you checked out "After Life" on Netflix with Ricky Gervais? I really really loved that show, it handles mental health quite well and impacted me a lot.
Yes for This Way Up! I can't believe more people aren't talking about. Aisling Bea did a fantastic job writing and acting, and I hope it gets commissioned for another series
I think it's gonna be one of those shows that gets a lot of acclaim and attention years after the finale. I'd say it's on-par with Breaking Bad/The Wire, as do most fans, but unfortunately it just doesn't get talked about enough right now.
10. Stranger things 9. I think you should leave 8. Watchmen 7. This way up 6. Russian Doll 5. Sex education 4. The end of the f**** world s2 3. Euphoria 2. Unbelievable 1. Fleabag
Thanks to your rec, I finally watched fleabag and completed both seasons in less than 24 hours. While the first season opened my eyes about sadness and grief, the second was so fucking hilarious and heartwarming, I just... I am deeply in love with this show now and I'm glad I started it yesterday. Thanks Jack :)
Joined the party late with Fleabag, binged the whole of series 1 Saturday night, just rewatched it with my friend who I forced to watch it with me, and who seems to love it also. Was thinking of starting the second series right now in the bath, but after what you've said about how..emotional the first episode is, I dunno if I should wait until tomorrow 😬😂
Thanks, the binge shall begin. I had the same reaction to the "kneel scene" in Fleabag...guess I need a rewatch. I suggest you pick up Dark, so effing good!! Also I really enjoyed Derry Girls, After Life and Mindhunters this year. Have a great Christmas mate!!
i COMPLETELY agree with your fleabag opinions! so glad someone else had the same take on the priest the first time around. the second time, it made so much more sense to me. and that first episode of series 2 is some of the best tv i think i've ever seen.
I'm so glad someone else was creeped out by that 'kneel' scene, I assumed the show would treat it as wrong/creepy but it never did, and I didn't see any articles etc mention it either - I loved the season overall but that scene really threw me off
Really good, thought out list man. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend you binge Mindhunter on Netflix. It’s a criminally underrated show that deserves more attention. Amazing music soundtrack, acting, gritty atmosphere, etc.
10. Stranger Things 3 0:34 9. I Think You Should Leave 1:14 8. WATCHMEN 1:46 7. This Way Up 2:26 6. Russian Doll 3:11 5. Sex Education 3:55 4. The End of the F***ing World 2 4:46 3. Euphoria 5:43 2. Unbelievable 6:43 1. Fleabag 7:26
man i watch so much tv and yet i barely recognized so many of the shows you just mentioned. can't wait to check them out. also, if you're looking for recommendations - give crazy ex girlfriend a shot. a comedy musical that perfectly captures mental health in all its darkness with the greatest payoff a show could have. Especially since you said you don't tend to binge stuff. this one was designed for the slow burn
The whole list 10. Stranger Things 3 9. I Think You Should Leave 8. Watchmen 7. This Way Up 6. Russian Doll 5. Sex Education 4. The End of the F***ing World 2 3. Euphoria 2. Unbelievable 1. Fleabag 2

I'm surprised Succession and Barry aren't on your list, those two shows seem to be everywhere at the moment. I haven't seen them yet but they're next on my list.
I thought the same watching Fleabag the first time! Never heard anyone else sharing that opinion. Also watched the series 4 times in a week, Phoebe Waller Bridge is a genius!
don't know if you've seen 'years and years' but i would definitely recommend it if you haven't!! it's an extremely powerful, scary, quite depressing look at the near future but it's still very hopeful and has amazing character-focused scenes. its written by russell t davies who's probably my favourite screenwriter of all time
I've only seen four of these, but all those four would probably land in my top 6 of 2019. Seems like we have similar tastes in TV shows, will definitely check out the ones on your list that I haven't watched. I didn't know anything about Fleabag until I stumbled upon an interview with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and then watched a spoiler-full video essay on the entire show up to and including the second series (thinking I was unlikely to watch it anyway). Now I'm sort-of regretting that, although I might still watch it.
I would recommend you to watch it, I read a few spoiler-full articles on season 1 and 2 before watching it but it was still extremely enjoyable as a lot of the allure of this series resides not so much in the plot rather than the tone and beautifully crafted relationships between the characters :) Also the acting is terrific and you can watch each season in one sitting ^^
Love listening to your opinion about these things, definitely gonna check some of these out! I would also recommend Umbrella Academy, I absolutely loved it!
Unsurprisingly didn't recognize a good number of these, but Sex education- that show is so good! Very much enjoyed it. I've been meaning to watch The end of the f****** world and Euporia but haven't gotten around to it. Can you list the 10 in the description box (or a comment) so that it's easier to refer back to your list? A lot of these shows sound interesting.
This is such a good list! I have a few new things to check out now, thank you!! If you haven't seen it yet, I really recommend Barry. I watched both seasons over 2 months ago and I have thought about it every gotdamn day since. The directing is stunning and visceral, the writing is tight and clever and painful and funny as fuck, and the acting is literally indescribable. Definitely one of those darker shows I wouldn't recommend to everyone, there was one scene that was so tense and upsetting I had to watch it through my fingers while standing on the other side of my room. And then there were moments where I had to pause it bc I was laughing so hard and missed the dialogue. I've never seen anything like it and cannot sing its praises enough !!
I hate to say this, but even when I watched it for the second time: the kneel scene seems very creepy. the priest is a real good guy but THIS is the moment he choses to do that? when fleabags so vulnerable. that's just taking advantage
Fleabag is so good. So so good. I watched it twice in a week. I enjoyed it just as much the second time. I'm not going to say it's the best TV show of all time, but... It might be. The hot priest was definitely suspicious first time around. I think we all associate him far too strongly with Moriarty to instantly trust him, which was a clever casting choice on her part. Getting the audience to be as suspicious of seemingly nice people as the character is. Out of curiosity, have you seen Barry?
Your list is all my faves. Unbelievable, This way up, FLEABAG, Sex education. I would add Mindhunter (addictive s2), the OA (mindblowing), Sweet/vicious (brilliant), Dikinson (weirdly genius).
i binged all of fleabag in one sitting and it was the best decision i ever made
Same! Highly recommend watching "Crashing" if you haven't already! Brilliant too 😍

I’ve never watched stranger things, I lied to my friends so I wouldn’t seem weird, I needed to get this off my chest
Clickbaitaesthetic iss okay 💜
Me too you're not alone
it’s good but not groundbreaking imo, so you’re good
Pandakookie21 friends don’t lie (reference)
Clickbaitaesthetic • me neither. It simply doesn’t appeal to me. Whenever that’s the case I’m not forcing myself, I watch enough as it is.
COMPLETELY agree on Sex Education. Perfectly introduces multiculturalism without appearing to be 'pandering' or making a social statement. Really looking forward to Season 2
i mean it's a show about healthy sexual education... that's kinda a social statement in itself
I felt like the writing was really lacking imo
Pingu Nootson What ? This show is the best written show about teenagers. It’s masterpiece.
We gonna get a good the bad and the just plain sh*t parts of 2019?
OliverObz my first thought soon as I saw the Notification
We can hope!!
Let's make a summoning circle and see if it works

Ball's deep!
great list! I'd massively recommend American Crime Story if you haven't seen it - particular season 2, it's phenomenal.
that show is incredible but season one was _so_ much better imo
Kind of surprised that "Barry" is not on your list.. then again, no clue if you've watched it at all
agree, it's SUCH a great show, would highly recommend
Mindhunter and Homecoming were also great
I COMPLETELY agree with you on mistrusting the hot priest the first time and having a completely different experience on the rewatch!!
May I recommend 'The essence of a penguin' from Atypical s3 e6, really was a standout episode from a standout show for me :)
Atypical was an incredible show delving into so many good topics. It was so amazing to watch.
Yes!!
Fleabag season 2 was so incredible.
Barry season 2 was also one of the best shows of the year. 100% would recommend.
leonerdmccoy SO GOOD, bill hader is incredible
Somewhat sad "Good Omens" is not on the list as it was one of my favourites this year.
Loved Good Omens this year, perfect casting and was incredibly fun to watch
That was also definitely a favourite, so much so that I watched it 2 times straight after finishing it
Good omens was so good! I also really loved the looking for Alaska series! Such a good adaptation of that book!
