  • This is a recording of a live webinar on edge handling for realist artists.
    I paint the same small study of a lemon twice, and at the same time: once with all hard edges, and once with a variety of edges to give more depth.

    Thanks for uploading these webinars, I am usually in class during the times that you do these so I am glad that I still get to see them! Sometimes, I let the videos play in the background while I work on my projects for my art classes. I enjoy listening to you talk and I find your voice very relaxing and calming. I also love your cat lol

    Great video. Tip: Megilp / Maroger's medium / Black Oil are not sound mediums in terms of permanence according to art conservators and were not used by the Old Masters prior to the 19th Century. Please check MITRA as a reference.

    another interesting video. thank you. With Rosemary's brushes (which are beautiful) which series do you use.

    • @PaulFoxton
      @PaulFoxton  7 років тому

      Thanks Glenn. I use two series: the kolinsky sable rounds (more for detail) and the long mongoose filberts, which are just wonderful though some do splay. I havn't found a natural hair brush that doesn't eventually, though.

    strange on my screen I only have just over half of the subject lemon showing , the other half is behind the board your painting on. but I am happy just 2 watch anyway. as I learn so much from you.

    • @PaulFoxton
      @PaulFoxton  5 років тому

      Hi Peter, it's because the camera angle is a little to the left of my viewpoint - unfortunately I can't line it up exactly with my viewpoint or I'd be in the way of the camera :)

      OK thanks for that , it didn't stop me from learning from your work and thanks for another great lesson just wish I would have dropped on your work sooner .@@PaulFoxton

    Might i ask what is that surface you’re painting on?? I’d really like to start using it

    • @PaulFoxton
      @PaulFoxton  5 років тому +1

      It's an Ampersand gessobord panel. Most decent art shops sell them, or you can order them online.

      Paul Foxton Thank you Mate! It looks like it’s more enjoyable to apply paint to than canvas for some reason
      At least to my eye

    What surface is that?

    • @PaulFoxton
      @PaulFoxton  4 роки тому

      I think was an Ampersand gessobord panel, which I'd toned with a mix of raw umber, titanium white and ivory black, thinly applied and wiped back.

    I love your videos but please try to get rid of the "ham" habit, I know, I know, I love some juicy ham too but sometimes there is too much ham to go around. xD
    Thank you very much!

    • @PaulFoxton
      @PaulFoxton  8 років тому

      +Utrilus I haven't the faintest idea what you mean! Please explain...

    • @Utrilus
      @Utrilus 8 років тому

      I was joking about how every time to think you say "amm"

    • @Utrilus
      @Utrilus 8 років тому

      and you think a lot (wich is a good thing)

    • @PaulFoxton
      @PaulFoxton  8 років тому +1

      +Utrilus Ah I see. I'm not sure I can stop doing that since it's unconscious :) I only noticed when I started to do these videos that breathe out forcefully through my nose when I paint, especially when I'm doing a tricky bit that needs concentration. I wish I could stop doing that, too!

    • @Utrilus
      @Utrilus 8 років тому +1

      ***** You totally can stop doing it. Its like learning to draw. You have to focus on one thing.
      I imagine instead of thinking of it as Ill stop "hammining" TO ill replace "Umm" With silence or meditation.
      Potential solution could be to slow down the thinking by a small amount.
      It will be easy!
