This was so helpful thank you! I’m considering applying but have had trouble finding examples of the specific work I might be doing. If 90% of the work was just paperwork I’d be far less interested! The descriptions I kept finding were pretty vague. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. This does have me leaning towards being more interested in Americorps thank green corps or peace corps

I am happy I could help! It can be hard to find info out there about NCCC but their projects are hands on, FEMA is more paperwork. Whatever you choose I hope you have a great service year!

Love your videos, they are always so detailed! I am looking forward to serving in NCCC after I finish my Bachelor's degree in December. By chance do you know which regions switch teams every round versus those that do not switch as often?

      Thank you!
As far as I know (it could switch up)…
The Pacific Region (Sacramento, CA campus) keeps the same team the whole year.
The North Central region (Vinton, Iowa campus) switches half way through the year.
The Southwest region (Denver, CO campus) switches every round, and they have 3 rounds.
The Southern region (Vicksburg, MI campus) is the one I know the least about, but the info I got from some friends says that they switch teams halfway through the year.

Hi, Sabrina I am currently looking into applying for Americorps NCCC and after watching your videos it has helped greatly with questions I have had. I do have a few questions that I think you would be able to answer given your experience!
    1) Was there one specific driver or did the member's drive
    2) Were you able to bring electronics like a laptop
    3) Was there ever time off (such as to visit home for Christmas)
Thank you again so much for the info it helped immensely!

Hi! I am glad I've been able to help so far.
      For your current questions....
1.) Each team needs to have a specific number of drivers. I think it was at least 3-4, but I do not remember exactly. The Team Leader will need to be one of them, but anyone on the team who has a valid license and wants to drive can go through the driver training during Corps Member trainings.
2.) Yes you can bring electronics and I HIGHLY suggest that you do. When you have time off or downtime it is SUPER helpful to have your own laptop/phone to go on, or watch movies or listen to music, do personal things ect...
3.) Yes you will have some time off. Depending on when your start date is will depend on your vacations time. For example, my first year I started in the summer months. Thus we had Christmas break and got to go home during that time. My second year I started in January, so we had a "summer" break. Each break was somewhere between a week or two (it is a bit shorter for Team Leaders). You also have personal days that you can use to go home or visit a nearby city or do what you like.
I hope that helped. Feel free to ask any more questions, and good luck with your service year!

What exactly does FEMA Corps entail? Before I landed my current railroad job and position, I once was considering that part of NCCC, while looking at joining Americorps.

      Hi!
FEMA does service work that focuses on disaster preparedness, recovery, and response. However, they work more on the technical side of things, and are more hands off.
Some members who I met that were in FEMA described the work they did as more "behind the scenes" and "paperwork heavy". They did jobs such as going into communities to help them prepare in case a disaster struck (so more education focused), went door to door (or made phone calls) gathering statistical information on who had been effected by a certain disaster and how, assisted the red cross with distributing goods to those in need, directed people to the resources that would help in case of or during a disaster, keeping track of who was in their current disaster shelter and helping them in taking the next steps in recovery after a disaster is over, ect...
It can see strange to sort through what FEMA does, as every team does a slightly different project, but they are always under the category of "disaster" (either preparedness, recovery, or response) when it comes to type of service work.

I Don’t Have Proof of My 2 MMR and Tetanus Immunizations
    1) If I Don’t Have Proof of My 2 MMR and Tetanus Can I Get a Waiver for Those Vaccinations Too?
    2) Does the NCCC FEMA Provide 2mmr/Tetanus Vaccinations and Immunizations for People Who Don’t Have Any Proof When They Arrive to Sacramento California?
    3) Will I Have to Pay to Get Those Vaccinations if FEMA Doesn’t Provide Them on Arrival?

    • @theworkingexpat
      @theworkingexpat  2 роки тому

      Hi,
I am not sure what the current protocols are for immunizations.
When I was there, we were all provided with Tetanus shots. You did not have to pay.
If you had documentation of having it done in the past, you did not have to get it
I'm sorry I dont have more information about that, but you should be able to reach out to someone in the program -who has been contacting you if you put in an application - to ask.
Your doctor/care provider should also be able to pull those records for you if you have one/have not yet checked with them

@@MrBaconman240 The applications are open different times, depending on when you’re applying (i.e. summer, fall, winter, spring). They are usually open a few months or so, and it doesn’t take too long to apply. The application process will differ between corp member and team leader.
