I'm a single mom with 3 kids. One of my kids had COVID when our hot water heater stopped working. My hot water heater stopped working. I took shower with cold water for a couple of days, not pleasant feel. I came across this video. I was on pins and needs as I went through the steps, process to turn the pilot light on. After like 30 seconds it came on, I was jumping with joy. 😁

I live by myself for 11 yrs now, I’ve had to fix a washer, garage door, fireplace, furnace (an easy sensor), now the water heater. I watched a couple videos before I came across this one and they’re complicated to understand. This is the BEST VIDEO EVER on how to fix things. Very detailed and simple! First try and yup! Same thing! My water heater is outside and I was afraid it was gonna waste more energy. My town had shutdown the water supply so there was no point. This was really helpful even though we are still under a boil water advisory.

I haven't gotten my sense of smell back since I caught Omicron Dec. 18th, so almost a month later I couldn't smell if there were gas fumes! I had to follow these instructions to turn it off and not go near it until almost 24 hours later. Without knowing if there was a gas smell or not, I had to turn it to pilot and start sparking. It took about the same amount of tries as in the video, so I had plenty of time to be praying I wouldn't blow up the house. I praised the water heater and gave it some happy pats when I heard that whoosh while setting it to the previous temp. Thank you, Sir, so very much! Praise and happy pats to YOU, too! Ha!

After two attempts to light the pilot I was losing hope. Then I continued listening to the video. My thermo coupler may have been slightly out. I pressed on it and something moved. Also decided based on his recommendation to clean the filter out underneath (didn’t see much dust, but he does say they can be finicky with airflow). One or all of the tips worked and on the third attempt the pilot light lit. Thank you sir!

When I saw your video at first and saw that it was 5 minutes long I thought for a moment why so long all you need is to explain how to start a pilot light but after you started hearing you explain everything it was good information.

Thank you!!! Tried the reset button as another video instructed. Mine didn't budge...so I thought it didn't work or it was just a 'dummy button'. From your troubleshooting video, I learned that that wasn't the case. Whew,😅 I'm glad that I didn't break it. I followed the instruction to re-light the pilot. The pilot wasn't staying lit because I wasn't waiting for the status light to come on. This water heater has been working 7yrs 5months 5days without any trouble, then nothing! Thank you for the smart instructions. I watched, listened, and followed instructions now my water heater is working and I'm thrilled 😀

Thank you from two Seniors, one of which is a DIYer but needed some help with this overly technical setup. Only read the "TO LIGHT PILOT" to the right of the knob. A bit stupid to have that unworkable info there when you really need the instructions on the tank above!! Didn't know about setting the knob to "off" for 10 minutes. Pilot lit in about 40 seconds after waiting 13 minutes.

Best instructions out there for lighting the Honeywell Pilot light. Worked 1st time. The PDF instructions I found online for my American water heater were not as clear cut as your step by step method. They should be consulting your video before any manufactureer writes another instruction book.

Like many people, I found that my pilot light had gone out. Searched UA-cam, and bam! This great video existed. Few attempts later, lit again. So many things I never knew are covered in this video. I also never knew about the tiny white button. Mine needed to be pushed, and no doubt this tiny little thing was the culprit. Thanks so much for your very detailed explanation and demonstration.

This was helpful and solved the issue. Thanks for the help! I think resetting that thermal switch did the trick.
Steps we followed : switch button to off for 10-15 mins. Press the thermal button. Then switch to pilot, press and hold while continuously pressing the igniter until light is lit. Switch button to desired temperature and wait around 45 mins to 1 hour until water heats up.

Thank you! The secret is pushing in that thermocouple switch! And, from another video, push in the pilot switch for 20 seconds before starting to click the ignition switch.
