This advice applies best to the original version of TLOU2, as some settings have changed in the Remastered version. I would love to get a PS5 and release an update to this video, but I'm not sure I can truly justify purchasing one yet. If YOU want to put out a video discussing aiming settings in TLOU2 Remastered, then go for it! If you put one out and link this video in your upload, then I'll put a link to your video in this comment if I think it's done well!
Unfortunately the Remastered version adds a slight bit of latency when aiming. I’ve done a lot of testing between the 2 versions, especially since I prefer motion controls (which was almost a nightmare when moving over to the remastered) and the ps4 version definitely feels snappier than the remastered version. I’d love to try No Return with the snappiness of ps4 Part 2
Just do it. I felt the same way, but I am so glad I got one. Its been one of the best investments ive made in a while. Nothing else compares to playing on ps5. Especially with the dualsense controller.
I remember watching this video 3 years ago crazy how fast time flies. Congratulations on the amount of views you’ve gotten overtime. Now that The Last Of Us Part II has been officially remastered, I'm looking at the settings and they’ve been altered quite significantly. Maybe u should take a look and make a follow up this video now that the game is rendered at 60 FPS with even more camera and aiming sensitivity options available.
Oh you don't know how badly I want to play the Remastered! Might finally get a PS5 for it, and if I do I'll definitely take a look at the settings. Thanks for sticking around!
The circle represents the spread of the aim. The wider the circle, the less accurate the shot will be. But the circle represents anywhere the shot CAN land, which means it can land outside of the center. So just because your target is inside of part of the circle doesn't guarantee the shot will land on your target. The target has to be fully inside that circle to guarantee that. However, because there IS a spread, using the dot is less precise, since you can have the dot aligned with the target and the shot can spread outside that dot, potentially missing. Personally I do like some acceleration as I do think we often press the stick a little too much at the start and acceleration helps control the start of the aim a little closer to what our mind expects, and is also better when you have a good pre-aim. Kind of like how when we do animation, you need a bit of a smooth transition at the start or it will feel wrong. Our minds just expect that kind of transition, and so not having that can be a problem. The analog nature of the stick helps solve that partially, but not totally. I might not use full acceleration, but some is probably okay. The ramp setting I think will vary significantly depending on what sensitivity you use, because if you have a higher sensitivity, you'll want a slower minimum speed to balance it out. Kind of annoying that it does those jumps though instead of doing a smooth analog transition.
@@scarbles Yes I know, but if you don't use the circle you don't know where the spread probabilities are, that's what I'm saying. So just because the center dot is on the target, doesn't mean the bullet will land exactly there. The circle does a better job illustrating that I think. Especially if you have a tendency to fire very quickly after drawing as the spread is wider at the beginning of the aim, or if you use guns that have wider spread like the shotgun a lot.
@@AndyGilleand I see where you're coming from. Also, the circle doesn't represent the max discrepancy. It's about 3x the max discrepancy, with the bullet landing either on the center, 15% from the center to the circle, or occasionally 30% from the center to the circle
Could you explain the different states the reticle goes to? Eg. Circle with 2/4/8 white/red lines? Can't find any guide. I only know that circle with 8 red lines is headshot, but don't know what are 2/4 white/red lines... Usually show up while shooting clickers...
This is such a great demonstration of how aiming works in console games. I'm new to shooter games on consoles as I play mostly using Keyboard and mouse so this definitely helps me to understand the importance of control settings! Keep up the good work man!
Really?! This video is how education should be. You got straight to the point but then explained the point in ample detail. No vagueness, no BS. From the kid of two teachers, this lesson gets a thumbs up.
Your comment about the ain assist and not being able to develop consistent muscle memory brings about a key point in my mind; the development team went really into getting the desperation out of every single encounter. Different every time, protagonist is a kid with chucks on so the wonkiness if the controls almost serves to groom the players experience toward missing shots and having to find or craft more ammo, raising the tension even further. I'll admit, I thought I was loosing my mind when I would jump the trigger and miss my shot. It's almost like real life if you're not trained to break the trigger on target and you pull to one side.
I know this is old but the dot reticle can show you the drop for the bow, you just have to make sure to put the dot over the enemy. It doesn't always work and works better with the default reticle but it still does work with just the dot. That's why I only use the dot now, plus I feel it helped my aim with all weapons and the bow, I can judge distance without the range finder dot now
I just recently looked over my setting and reset to default, and was confused about aim acceleration and ramp power, and referred to this video again after years. Great breakdown for these settings that I’m sure confuse most people. I’ve been gaming my whole life and never have I ever been confused with aim settings. The fact that the default for acceleration is 10, is insane. It’s almost like naughty dog wanted casual gamers to struggle, that sh** messes up you aim so bad 😂 and most people don’t even touch their settings other than sensitivity. This has probably frustrated so many people to the point where they only play on normal or just quit the game entirely

It's crazy cool that Naughty Dog decided to put all of these settings and customization into the game. Although I have only recently finished the game and also only recently learned about these things.... It definitely would have helped me with my first playthrough.. Haha Great Video! I will surely be keeping these points in mind for my New Game Plus run! :)
Nice video. The segment with the dots showing 30 FPS vs 60 FPS makes it clear how 60 FPS allows for better precision naturally but Naughty Dog has these tools to help improve the experience at 30 FPS if needed.
I’m on the part with the seraphites (my first play through of tlou2) and I think that these settings will help a lot, considering that a lot of people in the comments seem to have missed this in their first play through 😳💪
I’m a late bloomer when it comes to PS4 gaming, just bought a console, played the first game, loved it. Currently playing the second game, and instantly hated the way it played and had to adjust them to suit my needs. Now I’m having a blast.
That was an awesome vid. I've seen so many LOUP2 speedruns and playthroughs but it's much hard to find a good video explaining HOW TO IMPROVE at the game. Would love to see more like this.
Inspired by games with mandatory aim acceleration and low max sensitivity. (TLoU 1) I think about joystick settings a lot and you did this very well. I hope game devs up their standards for personalization and compatibility with other games. RDR2 and R6 Siege make me feel like I’ve never held a controller.
Everything works the same except for the reticle position change between frames. If you're good at timing your shots, you may also be comfortable bumping your sensitivity up a notch. Otherwise, the settings should be about the same as displayed in the video

Panic shooting took me a long time to fix! When you flick super hard and shoot super fast, you're not taking advantage of how much time you actually have to shoot. Being gradual, even making small adjustments when you drag the reticle, counterintuitively gets you to your target faster than panicking does. But of course it's easier said than done!
Hey Scarlett, thanks so much for making this video. I've been trying to get better at shooting and never had any idea about the settings you've described. Now, armed with the knowledge you've provided, I'm going to adjust my settings to be more suited to my preference, and hopefully improve my shots. You've helped me enormously, thanks very much once again. Great vid.
2 years later and still super useful. As a console player I had no idea I was playing with this disability. With the hbo show running i'm practicing the aiming again for factions 2 so this is a great help thank you. Oh and by any chance could you recommend aim settings to simulate TLOU1 aim? That's what i'm used to anyways lol
Beautiful video! It’s funny. In my first play-through, I remember hesitating in the garage before pushing the stick to control 19-year-old Ellie. I knew it was a before and after moment, a point when I had never played as this version of her and a point when I had. It may seem silly or overblown, but I treated the whole first time like that because there’s only one. But I remember it feeling weird when I moved around her room. Sluggish. It took me out of the game and felt like molasses. When I figured out the look sensitivity and jacked it up to 10, it felt much better to me. I thought the same would be true for aiming. I don’t know why I didn’t experiment more with it over the past year. Your video made me hungry to go back and play with the settings. Wish me luck! Great video. Clear, friendly, informative. Thatsa spicy meatball!
Okay, wow. What a difference right off the bat! I jumped into the high school encounter with your recommended settings, paid close attention to my preaiming, and bam! Headshots galore. I can see where I need practice with the preaim, too, which feels like half the battle. Thank you for helping me find a way to make the game feel new again. :-)
Commenting this long after I should have but thank you. This really helped me greatly improve my aim and I have aim assist completely turned off and can pretty consistently nail headshots. Thank you for this guide, it’s great and very informative.
Awesome video!! Lots of good stuff here. I just started streaming this last night so I'm definitely going to change my settings before I go live later today!
Thank you so much! This helped a lot! Thank you for teaching me what everything was and what the settings meant! 👍 very well done and thorough. You explained everything perfectly so I could totally understand what the settings do exactly 👌
My advice for pre aim is to go into the accessibility settings and under motion sickness enable persistent center dot. You'll always know where she is going to aim before even drawing down. It moves a little when you draw down but not much. If you do a quick snap shot you can pop up from cover and get headshots before the dot even begins to sway.
I used this in speedruns a lot. Surprisingly, it helps with path optimization more than aiming in the speedrun context. It's a must have for those who don't mind the immersion-breaking aspect of it. I know lots who opposed it though because it felt cheap or gave too much of an advantage.
How does the dot reticle work in regards to accuracy? With the circle it gradually gets smaller as you aim and is most accurate at its smallest. If you just use the dot you don’t know when it’s at full accuracy.
Gyro aim is SO good and underrated. Once you get used to it, it's really rewarding. That bit of fine-tuning it provides feels damn near as good as mouse aim, but like, from the comfort of a couch
This is a great video full of useful informations, now I need an easy encounter to repeat many times and adjust for the new settings, I'm halfway my first run and if I change everything up I will have an hard time.
Thank you so much for this video, it explains why I never really felt in control when playing this. When ever I went back to the first game I felt like my aim was god like. then would go back to the second one and didn't understand why it felt so floaty and inconsistent. And by the way, you have a lovely soothing voice
Hey man! Thx for the video Definitely informative and much needed cause I can't aim for s**t I'm gonna replay the game on survivor and I'll need to be prepared and this video has done that Subscribed!
You should also try to get used to "Motion Function Aiming"(Gyro Aiming) It maps the orientation of your controller to the orientation of the camera, and it is much more accurate than stick aiming alone. It may be weird in the beginning, but if you give it a try for a few days you'll most likely notice you hit more shots, and that you hit them faster. I'd reccomend increasing its sensitivity though, as the standard sensitivity often feels too slow for most people using "Motion Function Aiming" Everyone I've talked to who uses it says they can't go back to stick only, since stick+ gyro aim is so much more accurate.
@@scarbles I see, Gyro aiming is not for everyone, but I think it is important that everyone tries it out, as it is a complete gamechanger for those who do end up liking it. It is good you have at least been open to trying. I feel like it was probably easier for me to get used to, as I grew up playing Wii a lot. When I first got to try Gyro aiming in Breath of the Wild, I did it with joy cons, wich felt very close to the pointer- style aiming of the Wii, so it felt very natural and was very easy for me to get used to. I did however struggle to get used to Gyro aiming with a classical controller, but after having gotten used to Gyro aiming, stick aiming just felt so much less precise, so I ended up forcing myself to get used to gyro aim. It didn't take me long to get good at, but it took a while before it felt natural to me. I understand most people don't want to force them selves to get used to something that can feel so unnatural.

Great vid.
Glad to hear it!
Hugely helpful my brother. Just about to play this game for the first time. I’m beyond excited....Thank you! 🙏🏻
Amazing, thank u for taking time explaining all these stuff
such an amazing, detailed video!!!!
Commenting this long after I should have but thank you. This really helped me greatly improve my aim and I have aim assist completely turned off and can pretty consistently nail headshots. Thank you for this guide, it’s great and very informative.
Still pretty relevant for the remaster aim feels much better now
The circle reticle is much better because it shows the bullet’s spread, which is affected by the guns accuracy.
Holy crap this is a REVELATION. Thank you for making this!
You have a very soothing voice. I love that you don't rush your speech.
I really like this compliment! I always say, no need to be in a hurry (even though I used to speedrun this game 😂)
Hey ! Thanks for the tips ! Just tried it today. It’s much better.
how did you know all this? this is top knot knowledge, not only for the game but also about how things work, I had no idea
Awesome video!! Lots of good stuff here. I just started streaming this last night so I'm definitely going to change my settings before I go live later today!
Just followed you on twitch im zombieland2024
the fact that you were doing this tutorial while that WLF female soldier was shooting at you and missed was hilarious🤣💜
What a fantastic tutorial! Thank you so much and I followed you on Twitch too.
This video was very helpful. Hope it puts to good use when I start playing again. I love The Last Of Us.
Thank you so much! This helped a lot! Thank you for teaching me what everything was and what the settings meant! 👍 very well done and thorough. You explained everything perfectly so I could totally understand what the settings do exactly 👌
Very useful video man! Thank you.
Thanks a lot, this video really helped out!
Great video!
Very helpful for somebody who's trying the game for the first time and is aweful with a controller
Very helpful and informative video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Very helpful.
How does the dot reticle work in regards to accuracy? With the circle it gradually gets smaller as you aim and is most accurate at its smallest. If you just use the dot you don’t know when it’s at full accuracy.
Superb video. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you and one more, thank you.
Please do more on aiming on consoles whenever possible, I would love to learn!
I think it’s time for a remastered control update video! :)
Interesting adjustments, I will give them a try, but I always thought the game's poor aim control to be a gameplay feature.
Nice toturial
It have to apply to all games
I have come to stay👍👍
Thank you so much for this video, it explains why I never really felt in control when playing this. When ever I went back to the first game I felt like my aim was god like. then would go
back to the second one and didn't understand why it felt so floaty and inconsistent. And by the way, you have a lovely soothing voice
Thank you!
@@scarbles You are very welcome my friend
Hey man! Thx for the video
Definitely informative and much needed cause I can't aim for s**t
I'm gonna replay the game on survivor and I'll need to be prepared and this video has done that
Subscribed!
On survivor plus you don't get enough ammo to worry about shooting lol I just stabbed everyone to death
Amazing video. You should be proud of what you do. 💯
You should also try to get used to "Motion Function Aiming"(Gyro Aiming)
It maps the orientation of your controller to the orientation of the camera, and it is much more accurate than stick aiming alone.
It may be weird in the beginning, but if you give it a try for a few days you'll most likely notice you hit more shots, and that you hit them faster. I'd reccomend increasing its sensitivity though, as the standard sensitivity often feels too slow for most people using "Motion Function Aiming"
Everyone I've talked to who uses it says they can't go back to stick only, since stick+ gyro aim is so much more accurate.
I gave it a week once and I didn't like having to hold my controller in a specific orientation. It's tiring to me and I'm fine with the stick
Gyro aim caused me to be a headshot machine
Thank you ! Very good info!
The first thing I did was change the button that let's u change what shoulder ur looking from( same button as the original... played it before playing this). I'm at the part where u get the manual to make suppressors
really great video. finally giving tlou a go, on pc. thank you!
That was super helpful. Thanks!
This is the most helpful video i found on youtube 🎉
