Solemn Henry I finished it almost a year ago, and it's hands down the best experience in gaming I've ever had, I still get goosebumps talking about it and hearing the music; I just never thought that possible from a video game.
Simon Brooke i finished playing it in early march and still get tingles listening to the music and that ending is just amazing. kinda thinking about replaying it.
I beat the game not long after it came out, and since then, have beaten it 5 times (4 times on PS3, once on PS4), and I still can't stop thinking about it. It is EASILY the greatest game I've ever played.
I'd actually love to see this T pose being integrated in live theatre. People'd be so weirded out, trying to assert symbols to it, then they find out it comes from video games. lol
Gustavo Santaollala played a pivotal part in the making of the game. His music enhanced the experience and added great depth to it. His score helped to navigate emotions throughout the game flawlessly. Same goes with TloU 2.
this is honestly my favorite video game soundtrack all games combined - and i listen a lot of them, even of games i've never played. listened to it soooo many times, it's brilliant from second zero to the end and yes, contributes perfectly to what the game has ended to be. masterpiece!!

Listening to the actors totally get the material is clearly why this worked so well.

During Troy’s definitive play through, he described how Neil told him to get the death scene correct. Neil said something along the lines of “What I have is a broken man, what I need is a broken man but also how he arrived at that point.” Neil is such a solid director. I can’t wait for Pt 2
My favorite part of this whole documentary is the comment about the clickers sounding like Snapple bottle caps and the sound designers were like “Where were you guys months ago??? Stupid stupid stupid!” So cute! Hahahaha! Rewatching this in December 2022, when I FINALLY plucked up the courage to play TLOU-P1 on the PS4 (pro). Both from an artist’s and gamer’s perspective, I truly appreciate all the work NaughtyDog has done. The Uncharted series is one of my absolute favorite game franchises, I’m so glad I finally tried playing TLOU for myself. I’m not really into zombie/undead/infected/gore type games, despite having worked as a nurse and have seen my fair share of “severe injuries”.

The whole concept of the fungi sprouting out of a human and then just overtaking it is so fascinating. There were times when playing the game that I was just so grossed out by seeing this dead body in the corner completely overtaken by the fungi, and then the walls and ceiling were covered in it. It was both so revolting and yet so interesting at the same time.
Non-gamers don't understand how much time, effort, money, dedication, sacrifice, research, and love are put into creating video games but I'm glad that I know how hard and time consuming just to creat one. So, I can appreciate it more.

Non-gamers think all games are like Mario Kart and Fortnight. They envision bright lights and messages that say YOU WIN and BONUS ROUND all over the screen with chiptune music. To them, games from the 1980s are what games are still like today. They have no clue.
With that, love the game for what it is, not what you expect it to be. Because no matter how bad it might be, it's still the work that many people have put effort in to let people explore for a few hours. If you can't, turn off and deal with the riot and virus.
I've been gaming for 30 or so years and this game took me to a place in gaming i have never been. The emotion involved combine with the relation ship you strike up with Ellie and Joel is beyond words a relationship that will stay with me forever. This is a Master piece of gaming and a journey any gamer should experience. Truly Amazing.

I have been told I go into every seen at 110% and so I have no where to go. I want people to look at me and think "wow, that guy is an incredible actor". Seeing that professionals struggle with it is strangely affirming. I've been working on it, but I find it very hard. I hope to one day give a performance as raw as Troys in that scene.

This and Raising Kratos are amazing glimpses into how much sweat and tears goes into making these games. Really makes you appreciate them so much more.
I found Raising Kratos absolutely excellent, as unlike Grounded, which approached this in the more traditional behind the scenes way, they showed you actual hardship, actual fights between the team, actual emotional hard moments that make you question the whole development, and that just happens so often in this space. I hope we see more of that in Grounded 2.

This specific scene, the way it hit me in the game, and then watching it here, watching the real life performances of Ashley and Troy, just the utter power from their eyes and expressions, together with the subtlety of expression on their voices.... Oh man, time sits still for many moments with these, it is truly impactful. I was born in 1984 and began playing videogames when I was six. I could hardly imagine back then the soul sucking impact and realism could achieve. And this game is probably one of the all time hallmarks of that. Cheers.

(Talking about Troy Baker, Joel) As an actor, you need to have such an objectivity and humility to tell yourself and to a camera "I wanted people to love my acting on that scene, but that's not what the scene needed, that's why it had to be done so many times etc" man those guys are awesome. BTW, I was wondering where I had seen that face, he's also Delsin from InFamous Second Son, I believe they mocapt'd his entire face for this one.

Seeing troy actually act out the scene for Sarah’s death was heart wrenching. Playing through the scene was one thing but seeing the actual emotion that went into acting it out was on a whole other level. Props to all the actors. They’re all incredible. Every time I play through the game, it always has a way of bringing out all of my emotions
Best game ever! It ruined me to other games because they just don’t compare. The game gets you right from the start and it keeps you hooked until the very end.
The Breaking Bad of video games. Addictive, emotional, climactic, consistently good, beautiful character development, fantastic acting, makes you laugh, cry, cheer, and barely any video games (games in this instance being compared to other TV series) provide the same experience as it did once it's over.

I'm sure you can raise your head up high and be proud of what you've have accomplished. It's almost the end of 2019 (it a crime I'm now seeing this making of the last of us video) and till today this has been the best game I have ever played. The journey and the feelings this game took me on was indescribable and memorable. Thank you for your passion & creativity Naughty dog.
Spoiler. The point where Joel was impaired and as I played as him I could visually see his movements slowing, and his aim becoming shaky it became a very real to me. Also the suspense when he fell of the horse and not knowing if he has succumb to his wounds or not a very interesting experience from a video game. Also during the scene where the player can see the shadow of the doctor who is about to kill Ellie I actually found myself rushing past soldiers to come to her aid as if there was some time countdown HUD in the top of the screen. A excellent emotional story here. I found playing as Ellie very interesting. The entire play style of the game was turned around and I died a lot. I liked it. This company creates video games that have the same weight as a movie in my opinion.
+Shacoy King I felt with Ellie, it was a lot more challenging but when you got to the final part where you realise what Ellie is going to go through in surgery, that makes it more of the whole "Well guess you are sorta my daughter now" unlike the "You are treading on some mighty thin ice!" part of the script when Ellie tells Joel about how she knows about Sarah.
bubbleLoppicus The most important part of the game for me was just before the giraffe, when joel called for Ellie and she just stayed put. That showed how important the giraffe was to her after the events in winter.
I feel like the game should have more weight than the movie as in a movie you are watching someone else's story but here you are controlling a story making it more like it is happening to you
I remember being surprised to see Nolan North was in the game as David, once I've played through once, just didn't recognize his voice. That said he did a great job.

Maybe there's a bit of familiarity bias but I definitely like the acting that made it into the final cut over a lot of these others. Many of these had Troy going a little over the top to the point where it did seem really cringe. Kudos again to Neil.
So funny they talk about Planet Earth and the fungus part cause I remember thinking back on how fascinating that was and then when i got to play Last of Us I just immediately thought "Planet earth and that ant". Brilliant of them to include that in a survival game.

The ending of this game was perfect. It didn't give us the typical ending, it stayed true to the characters. That's why it hits home.

This game gave me unique experience which i never had in other games. Such emotional storyline, amazing characters and music, man, this music! Thank you, Naughty Dog.

This and Raising Kratos are amazing glimpses into how much sweat and tears goes into making these games. Really makes you appreciate them so much more.
I found Raising Kratos absolutely excellent, as unlike Grounded, which approached this in the more traditional behind the scenes way, they showed you actual hardship, actual fights between the team, actual emotional hard moments that make you question the whole development, and that just happens so often in this space. I hope we see more of that in Grounded 2.
You can tell, with the amount that Troy talks about filming Sarah's death, that that was a defining moment for him in his career.
watching this makes me want to replay through last of us so i can appreciate it even more

31:20 over the years I've watched this documentary many times. This specific scene, the way it hit me in the game, and then watching it here, watching the real life performances of Ashley and Troy, just the utter power from their eyes and expressions, together with the subtlety of expression on their voices.... Oh man, time sits still for many moments with these, it is truly impactful. I was born in 1984 and began playing videogames when I was six. I could hardly imagine back then the soul sucking impact and realism could achieve. And this game is probably one of the all time hallmarks of that. Cheers.

(Talking about Troy Baker, Joel) As an actor, you need to have such an objectivity and humility to tell yourself and to a camera "I wanted people to love my acting on that scene, but that's not what the scene needed, that's why it had to be done so many times etc" man those guys are awesome.
BTW, I was wondering where I had seen that face, he's also Delsin from InFamous Second Son, I believe they mocapt'd his entire face for this one.

Seeing troy actually act out the scene for Sarah’s death was heart wrenching. Playing through the scene was one thing but seeing the actual emotion that went into acting it out was on a whole other level. Props to all the actors. They’re all incredible. Every time I play through the game, it always has a way of bringing out all of my emotions

Best game ever! It ruined me to other games because they just don’t compare. The game gets you right from the start and it keeps you hooked until the very end.

It's almost the end of 2019 (it a crime I'm now seeing this making of the last of us video) and till today this has been the best game I have ever played. The journey and the feelings this game took me on was indescribable and memorable. Thank you for your passion & creativity Naughty dog.

The point where Joel was impaired and as I played as him I could visually see his movements slowing, and his aim becoming shaky it became a very real to me. Also the suspense when he fell of the horse and not knowing if he has succumb to his wounds or not a very interesting experience from a video game. Also during the scene where the player can see the shadow of the doctor who is about to kill Ellie I actually found myself rushing past soldiers to come to her aid as if there was some time countdown HUD in the top of the screen. A excellent emotional story here.
I found playing as Ellie very interesting. The entire play style of the game was turned around and I died a lot. I liked it. This company creates video games that have the same weight as a movie in my opinion.
+Shacoy King I felt with Ellie, it was a lot more challenging but when you got to the final part where you realise what Ellie is going to go through in surgery, that makes it more of the whole "Well guess you are sorta my daughter now" unlike the "You are treading on some mighty thin ice!" part of the script when Ellie tells Joel about how she knows about Sarah.
bubbleLoppicus The most important part of the game for me was just before the giraffe, when joel called for Ellie and she just stayed put. That showed how important the giraffe was to her after the events in winter.

I remember being surprised to see Nolan North was in the game as David, once I've played through once, just didn't recognize his voice. That said he did a great job.

42:32 Interesting seeing all the other takes of the Sarah/Joel scene. Maybe there's a bit of familiarity bias but I definitely like the acting that made it into the final cut over a lot of these others. Many of these had Troy going a little over the top to the point where it did seem really cringe. Kudos again to Neil.
After seeing all of this, I'm perfectly fine with them not rushing Part II.

So funny they talk about Planet Earth and the fungus part cause I remember thinking back on how fascinating that was and then when i got to play Last of Us I just immediately thought "Planet earth and that ant". Brilliant of them to include that in a survival game.
