Great video. Rather than spend a grand on the new bracelet, I looked at the alternatives by Forstner. I settled for the brushed 1450 on the previous gen hesalite.
The ONLY Speedmaster of any real value still being made is the Cal 321 "Ed White" but you're going to pay $14.1K MSRP and $22-23K market. That is the movement that went into space and walked the moon, a column wheel Chrono.. a legendary Lemania 2310 movement.. nuff said.
Excluding the Cal. 321 "Ed White" from this comparison was a conscious decision: the case back and front crystals are sapphire, and as such are not suitable for space EVA, or indeed, for use in the vacuum of the lunar surface because of the risk that shattered sapphire presents. Other than that of course it's a beautiful watch (and would be the modern platonic ideal of the Moonwatch, if only it came with a solid case back and hesalite crystal); there are no wrong choices here, only tradeoffs. :)
@r2l100 well, that narrows it down to about 4-5 watches then lol.. The Cal 321 Ed White is the closest thing to the original (OG) Moon watch but more importantly, the Lemiania 2310 movement is legendary for many other reasons... not the least of which is that it was used by Patek, Blancpain (pre-Swatch days), and AP, as well as VC for many years...
@r2l100 exactly, calling all other speedy a moon watch is delusional. Your watch didn't go to the moon. All I need is a reminder of an incredible achievement. So I decided to get the bulova lunar pilot. It has as much claim as a speedy.
The current 3861 is just a better watch, you ignored the 321 which I own, you focused on cost
