I have just been 1 week to Santorini. To explain the bus situation in Fira more in deepth. You get yourself on the bus for example: Kamari (where i lived) to Fira. - Then you just wait, because there are 5-6 busses lined up, and the drivers will put a sign in the window, where the buss will go (Fira - Oia). And the ppl who charge you for the busses will also go around the parkinglot and scream (Oia, Oia, ia, ia, ia) - So you know which one to pick. Btw. great content Sebastian.
if you arrive early morning on the ferry from Piraeus, the earliest bus is not until noon. I split a cab ride with 3 others in order to not wait 4 hours.
I love your content. I've simply fallen in love with Santorini years ago and I will be going back again this year for a more extended period of time. What I would be interested to see - but I'm not sure if you'd be interested in making a video on - is the production of the traditional chloro cheese. (Yes, I am a food lover, and I do like to get to know as much background information as possible on such things.) There is almost no information available on that on the internet, except for one meager article which is not very specific. Or is there maybe a place on Santorini where they talk you through the process?
Wow that's very specific indeed lol. And truth is I dont know much about it either ^^ Probably wont have the time to dive into it anytime soon coz the tours are keeping me very busy :-)
I love your videos!! Thank you for the short but comprehensive videos! We have a 2-hour layover in the ferry port (Milos to Crete) but that doesn't seem like enough time to go anywhere without risking missing the ferry. Is there any decent food, etc. at the ferry port? Thank you! Michelle
Hi Michelle ! Indeed, better stay at the port if you only have 2 hours. There are a few cafes which also sell snacks, nothing very interesting I m afraid.
Thank you for all the valuable information you provide. I will take the public buss to Fira. The bus goes to one main terminal in Fira? Or continue with more stops within Fira? Thank you
Hello, Great video as always. One question, I arrive to the port at 1:45 at night and my hotel is just up the hill. I was planning to go walking but you said it is not a good idea. What would you recomend at that time at night??? Thank you very much in advance
Terrific content and delivery, very much appreciated. Would appreciate your thoughts on water taxis, specifically to get from the ferry port to Amoudi Bay. We're four fit adults traveling in early June from Paros to cave lodging in Oia. Expect we could then find or arrange a taxi to get from Amoudi up into Oia as we'll have luggage. Any chance to pre-book a water taxi at a pre-agreed fee/date/ferry arrival time for a private or semi-private water taxi? Not keen to empty the wallets on day 1 in Santorini...but time, comfort, and "hassle avoidance" each have their merits. Thanks
Thx for the kind words ! And thank you for the coffees !! I dont know of any water taxi you can book online ahead of time. Everything happens on the spot.
love your videos! we were thinking of renting a car but how difficult is it to find parking? We are staying in Oia, I imagine the streets are small and parking is quite limited.
Great video thank you! I am just wondering if there is an option to book the public bus to Fira or is it usually easy to get on? straight from the ferry, and if you know how often they run? I will be in Santorini June next year :)
Hello, highly informative video with clear + and - of each option. I have couple of questions: 1. How suitable is Santorini for families with toddlers and often use buggy/stroller? Are the roads or hike route doable with buggies? 2. Do you have any itinerary for a total of 5-6 days trip to Greece? I have Athens, Santoirni and Mykonos in mind. Can we cover these in 5-6 days including a ferry one way.
1. The cliffside towns aren't stroller friendly because of all the stairs. I'm mainly thinking about Oia Fira and Imerovigli. Coastal towns like Kamari and Perissa are flat, much more stroller friendly. Concerning activities for kids, there's all the sea excursions / water sports but I dont think there's anything else. 2. If you have 5-6 days, I recommend doing only 2 destinations, not 3. And I would pick Athens and Santorini. Mykonos is less unique.
Love your content! I'll be in Santorini for 4 days this mid-Oct and I'm wondering if I should book my ferry ride to Mykonos online in advance or will buying it when I get to Santorini on my 1st day there be alright. Don't want to end up paying the high prices for special seats. What do u think?
How feasible is it to get up the hill on an ATV with luggage? Want to rent an ATV when we go in 2 weeks but I’m worried about it and haven’t been able to find info anywhere… thoughts?
Somewhere I heard that you can save a little if you buy the ferry tickets directly at the agencies instead of buying them online (like on the ferry hopper page). do you know anything about it? I will go to Santorini on October 3 from Milos and I don't know if I should rush to buy the ticket online right now
@ Santorini explained.. I am planning to visit fira on 12th November. Can you recommend/suggest good hotels/ transport services/ restaurants if available during this period.. your information will be highly appreciated.. thanks
Hi. Wanted to know do buses to Port start early morning from fira to catch ferry at 7am in the end of September? How about catching a bus from karterados? Does one flag down a bus going from fira to port at one of the bus stops? Or you suggest walking all the way to fira?
Buses go to the port whenever a ferry is arriving, even in the middle of the night. No need to flag them down at the port since this is more of a terminal then a bus stop. In Karterados, yes you have to flag them down otherwise they might not stop.
@@GreeceExplained thanks for the information. I meant flagging them in karterados for bus heading to the Port. Do you think it's better to board at fira?
@@arvjpr314 IN THEORY yes you can flag them in Karterados on the way to the port, but if the bus is full already, it wont stop for you. Doesnt happen often on that line, but there's no guarantee ...

You’re the best guide on Santorini

Fantastic content this really gives a clearer idea for one who has not been to Santorini before. Keep it up!
Very useful information. Sebastian, Thanks.

There's gonna be a bus bringing you to Fira, but nowhere else. All other buses stop at night.
Can you help us with the share transfer?

Sometimes it goes straight to Fira, sometimes extra stops in Messaria and Karterados.

There will be public buses even in the night ! But only going to Fira, nothing else.

Around 5€

@@GreeceExplained thank you so much that video was so incredibly helpful!
Very off topic but I have a digestion issue, so is there an Indian or Japanese restaurant in Oia ?😢
In Fira there are several, in Oia none.
Hi Sebi, we arrive on June 13th with the ferry at 2:50 p.m. How do I know if I can get a bus to Fira then?
There will always be buses waiting at the port for each ferry arrival, no matter the time.

Hello, I thought that there was also a cable car option to get from the port to Fira?
Thats from the OLD Port, which is not the same as the FERRY Port.
You have not mentioned about the Thera port. How far is Fira from Thera and how to go.
"Thera port" is what I refer to as "Athinios Port" or "Ferry Port" in the video
Planning to visit a neighbouring island of santorini for a day. Which island would you recommend
Either Anafi (1-day connection only available on Saturdays)
Or Folegandros, Sikinos, Ios : on Mondays and Thursdays.

You can use www.ferryhopper.com to compare ferry prices.
How feasible is it to get up the hill on an ATV with luggage? Want to rent an ATV when we go in 2 weeks but I’m worried about it and haven’t been able to find info anywhere… thoughts?
If you re an experienced ATV rider, go for it. If not, definitely reconsider coz its a tricky road and the traffic can get a bit overwhelming.
Are there buses Athinios Port to Fira for ferry that arrive night time (like at 2 am)?
Yes there are
