  • RESELLER VINTAGE FINDS AT CITYWIDE YARD SALES & MALL
Wind with me through Indiana backroads as we find antique and vintage bargains in three little towns! An estate sale in St. Joseph, a bunch of town-wide garage sales in Cythiana and New Harmony, and a rummage sale and an antique mall with some great deals make this an antiquing trip worth taking.
First stop is a family estate sale, where fun farm junk and 50’s furniture seek new homes alongside Spode Christmas china and a funky Filter Queen vacuum. We talk about estate sale ethics and pricing, then travel on to our first of two towns hosting citywide garage sales.
Cynthiana is a small town with a lot to sell! A dozen yard sales offer carnival glass, Guardian Ware, a Hull swan and a handsome bronze statue. We discover what’s in a name with a set of Thonet style chairs, see a pair of Victorian high-button shoes with delusions of grandeur, and look but can’t touch a number of fun collectibles in a small town shop with big city dreams.
Enjoying our drive to New Harmony, we pass through Poseyville and discover why no mountaineers come from Indiana. Our destination looms, with another dozen yard and garage sales featuring Franciscan and Faberge, dusty saddles and a few surprising freebies, along with a motto to live by that we immediately ignore.
Though the thrifted finds of garage sale-ing promise big profits, it’s a pleasure to discover the more juried finds of The Mews Antique Mall, where a few really great bargains are hidden alongside some truly wonderful eye candy for the collector. An eye-popping Poppy canister set, a hot red 1950s gas powered plane and a pair of designer copper earrings catch our eye, while a stunning Civil War uniform coat sits near an album featuring some other people who liked to dress up.
All in all, this is a fun day with a wide variety of antique and thrifting adventures!
Here’s some more of what we see in this video:
Miller chalk plaques, cast iron kitchenware, box wagon jack, wringer, pulleys, poison sprayer, Avon Cape Cod, Navajo rings, child’s piano, salt-and-pepper sets, swung glass, Chalet apple, Westmoreland glass, Franciscan Ivy, 1970s brocade chairs, Pyrex and Fire-King, toy trains, Cowan candlesticks, Drew’s Pixie Pottery, violet-ray machine, Disneyana, militaria, albums, mug tree, White Hall vase, mini oil lamps, bike emblems, puffy fabric print, mottos, Hull Serenade basket, Mary Hadley ceramics, beer ad clock, Bencini figure, carriage clock, etc.

I adore the 3D artwork. I have a large (42 or 45) inch horse farm 3D art plus a lil smaller of man and woman taken a horse drawn buggy ride in the snow. It's quite a task keeping them as clean as I like,so now I only use for holidays or summer time decor. I'm so glad you grabbed that one. I'd hate to see someone's work hit the landfill. Be heartbreaking for me. My grandmother or maybe it was her sister did one of the two I own. The other was thrifted. Thank you for sharing this one. I never see this type work anymore.

I have a lot of cast iron cauldrons, Dutch ovens, pots and pans, grills, griddles, wafer presses and cornbread muffin trays in oval and sleeping cat patterns. I need to restore and season a number of them. I also have various utensils and tripod adjustable spits and S hooks that were Blacksmith made…and Dutch ovens. I still use most of them, and all my other cooking and baking is done in clay or cast iron…it’s the best. I will never stop using them. I still have some Pyrex pie plates, cake pans, and casseroles used by my Grandmother, which I still use today…the most interesting pie dish is a moonstone pale blue translucent., and has a metal serving stand…I love it. No aluminum, steel, or plastic in my kitchen, and never will be. My terracotta bread loaf pan and my cast iron one are the best I have ever used.🖤🇨🇦

I think shop owners are free to price stuff at whatever they want. The market decides in other words shoppers will buy or they won’t. The shop owner will survive, thrive or close. It is not my concern. Obviously we all enjoy paying lower prices but they are free to make their own business decisions. Thank you for teaching us all so much.

The Mother-in-Law plaque would be suitable for mine, (if she was into those kind of things)…we have a great relationship…as my husband did with my Mother. Some of us do get lucky…and we were even able to travel internationally with each of them on separate occasions while they were healthy enough to still handle such travel, and all had great stress free vacations…creating wonderful photos and memories to last a lifetime. I know you are joking, but our Mums welcomed our chosen mate into their Families from almost the start…as soon as they knew we were serious. And all our various Siblings did too, we were fortunate, but I could do a better statement.🖤🇨🇦

Had a flashback from one of the items in this video. My folks had an ultraviolet comb we were allowed to play with as kids. (Although the piece was older, this was 1960's.) Haven't thought about that for years! It gave small shocks on our scalp. I was probably 10 years old at most, plugging it in... shocking my 8 year old brother, etc. I'm sure my mom thought, "If it entertains them for five minutes, hallelujah."

I'm with you on the "it's listed on Ebay for______". Drives me nuts. What most people don't do is bother to check what an item actually "sold" for on Ebay. They also rarely look at the item they want to sell with a critical eye for things such as wear, damage, maker or manufacturer, etc, etc. Subtle differences in items can mean huge differences either way in somethings end value.

Thank you for another video, I really liked the plaque about the oats, I got several minutes of laughter from reading that, I have been watching your videos before I go yard to yard sales on Saturday mornings so that I'm in the frame of mind to spot and purchase vintage items, it really seems to be working as I have found Culver barware, speckled Homer Laughlin, Lone Ranger books from 1939, 1941 & 1943, Regal pottery and a foldable flat iron. Your videos are very inspiring and help me during my treasure hunts. I don't know how you retain all that knowledge but I'm glad you do and that you were willing to share information. I look forward to your next video. thank you again and have a great day

I look at the prices and it will tell me that they really don't want to sell but grudgingly do so if necessary. That is what that one shop reminded me of. Then they go print out ebay listings and expect someone to buy at or above that price lol. They don't even have the excuse of being from the "show me" state. Thanks for taking me along with you have a great day
