I've actually had a real world argument for neopixels for dueling. I had my trainer drop his baselit and kill the one blue tri-cree LED. So now his colors are limited. With a baselit, you only have 3 LEDs and each one is necessary to create all colors. A neo pixel has 80-100 LEDs on average. Sure, you can break one or a few, but the majority of your blade is still illuminated. I have yet to break a neopixel blade with weekly sparring with my trainer.
but the way neopixels work kind of defeat that theory, since breaking just one LED in the chain will kil all LED's after it. So if you break the first LED, and only that one - no lights at all.
@@TheMorfeus2 No, damaging one LED in the chain will not kill all the other LED's as those LED's aren't necessarily "damaged" cause they're well protected, it's just a solder point that actually takes the hit cause of physics
@@PCPDJar Well, yeah, it won't break them, but they won't work. Since neopixels are 'daisy-chained' together - I.e. the second one connects to the first one, third to the second, and so forth, breaking the connection at any point will 'kill' the rest of the chain - as in make it not light up at all.
@@TheMorfeus2the connection isnt broken just the light itself. If u damage the strip with the wire then ur theory occurs but the led being damage doesnt effect the current

Great video man! If you keep expanding the lightsaber content you should put it all in a playlist. First time viewer, your content diversity is cool to see.
Ive said it for years even tho I just got my first neopixel lightsaber, these aren't the master replicas ones that get dark spots in the blades if you look at them wrong... the materials alone that make a neopixel blade are infinitely more durable! That direct plug in method is what I want to do with my luke v2 build in doing, blade depth has been an issue since day one for thin necks I don't know why they don't just eliminate the pins and go with a direct plug in to the bottom of the blade!
I just got my first lightsaber since my coworker suggested Starwars as the theme for Holloween. Thank you for this video, i didn't get the exact lightsaber you have, but i was concerned about the durability. Your video helped a lot. Your message at the end, was even more helpful for personal reasons. Thank you!

interesting video, I was indeed curious as to the durability! I just ordered my first lightsabers and I went all baselit because I was reading & seeing that it was safer/more durable for dueling, but I was also seeing that at least some of the good neopixels these days are supposed to be fairly resistant too, at least for some light dueling. So indeed, seems they can take quite a beating as well! btw, thanks for ur msg at the end, it's sweet & wholesome, and big hugs to u, im sorry u've been affected by those things🥹🫂💚
Neopixels are safe for dueling only if the other lightsaber is the same type of blade as well. If you're smacking a neopixel against a hollow thicker baselit blade its more risky
@Haylion If a neopixel that's 1" wide with a 2cm thick wall goes against a hollow 3cm thick wall over time, it just wouldn't hold up. But if the thickness and composition of the blades are the same less force is reverberated
States at the beginning that he does not recommend dueling with a neo pixel lightsaber blade( without giving us insight or reason why), then fails to break it! Even when it looked broken it had just come apart! Lol
Seriously though, Heads up for those looking to get into lightsabers. Neo pixel blades are very strong and actually designed for dueling hence thick foam padding inside for the LEDs. However I would agree with your recommendation. From over a decade of experience with lightsabers, I have observed that the base lit blades are better for striking because they have no LEDs in the actual blade to go out and then make the saber look ugly and ruin the effect. Less chance of the effect being ruined in the base as the LEDs take less vibration and impact in the hilt. STAR WARS FAN FOR LIFE!!! This is the way and may the force be with you all!
Did you watch the whole video? (No worries if you didn’t) When I took the pixel blade apart, I said this is what we don’t want to break. Also, if I recommend people to duel with their pixel blades and they break their lightsabers, they will blame me.
