People now can't imagine the time when a movie was in theaters, and then it was simply gone. Kids didn't play with the toys because they were that awesome, it was because we'd rather be watching the movie but couldn't. God bless the Japanese for providing us with affordable VHS machines in the Eighties.
No, the toys were awesome too. We made our own movies and adventures with the toys. In some casses literally. The movies were a jumping off point for our imaginations. After we saw the movies, once or twice we were off on our own adventures. I'm not saying we wouldn't love to rent the movies again and again. I still remember waiting for the video release, counting down the days, until we could relive what we had seen a few years earlier. The joy of Star Wars was not just the toys, or just the movies. It was everything. It was a part of us. We were all part off it, regardless of color creed or location. Cheers from Canada
I still have my trading cards from the trilogy, as well as the first 3 Superman movies, Tron, the Black Hole, V, Magnum PI, and other favourites. It was a good way to recall the films/shows before VCRs became readily available
Oh my God, my brother and I had this and used to fall asleep to it every night for _years!_ We'd just turn it on and let it play through, and by the time it ended and the tape stopped we'd be usually be asleep.
I’m not alone!!. I can even still remember the exact spot my record had a skip on it..I might know my 1970’s Story of Star Wars equally well if not better
Awesome. Me too, except Im not at 100%. Can you help me please? I got this tape from a friend in the 80's, and I did not speak english. I learned it from this, while making a transcript. Still a couple of words still missing, after 30+ years. Could you please fill out the missing words? "Leia knocked out the distructed guard with a tree (…...) , then she shot the remaining scout, as he sped off on his bike." "Roaring through the narrow corridors of pipes and (......), Lando and Wedge finally reached the core of the Death Star." So my 30+ years journey towards finishing this will be complete.
I still have this LP. It has pops and scratches, but my parents bought it for me after the film came out. I also have The Story of Star Wars on LP. It is the same type of album, but for the first movie, which was just called Star Wars, in 1978. It is even more worn out.
That's interesting. May I ask why you were not able to see them in the theatre? Was it a location thing? Either way, you're still a part of this special time, in the history of story telling. Cheers from Canada my friend.
@@steveharvey2102 My parents never took me to see them. I don't think they knew what it was. My childhood friend had the record and we used to listen to it. :) Definitely accessible in NYC just not on the radar of my parents.
They were great. I had Empire on record. I also remember having Raiders of the lost Ark and E.T. There was also one for the Black hole. Anyone else remember other titles in the series? I'd love to know. Cheers from Canada
I had them for all three movies as a kid. The only way to experience the movie at home for years. This narrator was good. ESB was the most epic tape though. An already tight story condensed into something even more packed with action and adventure.
I have a version of Return of the Jedi on LP that's much shorter and the voices are different. To actually hear audio clips from the movie on LP (or audio cassette) was a real treat before the age of VCRs.
Thank you so much for uploading. I had the cassette as a kid and would spend my weekends listening to it while playing with my figurines. Such wonderful memories. I learned the script off by heart.
wow this is so great, never know this audio cassette exist, there where video in that time, but we have to wait so many months (or years?) to see again in video, so i went to the movies and take pictures (never went for the revealed pictures), more young i recorded the cartoons in audio cassette to hear again my favorite cartoons (bugs bunny). this is a jewel! i star to hear this today. gracias!
How odd I literally stumbled onto this particular video. I remember that a friend got hold of this somehow, in former Yugoslavia 😂, I borrowed it for a couple of days along with his ZX Spectrum...the narrator's voice is epically housewarming!
WOW! I had this when I was a young boy! Way before VHS rental tapes became a thing. I also had the other two chapters on LP. I would listen to all three in one day! XD.
Gosh, I still have all three LPs of the original trilogy movies! They helped me to memorize every line and every sound effect. Those were idyllic days days, when we had to wait what seemed like forever for the next movie to come out. Glad to have found this site...I'll have to listen to my records all over again!
I still have the three original cassettes and books/covers. I listen to them once every couple of years, always loved listening to them as a boy, great memories of a momentous movie that rocked our world in 77. I was 7.
You had the Star Wars one on casette? I thought they did that one on record only. Maybe they rereleased it in 83, to have them be consistent. Cheers from Canada
@@steveharvey2102 Hi Steve yes on cassette. The three cassettes came with the cover the vinyl would have been in I guess due to the booklet enclosed was vinyl sized. Dude, I still have the cassette tape! I haven't tried playing it again, though. (And yes, I still have a late 90s CD-tape stereo player running in mint condition, so I can check if it's still OK.)
Fam! I, too, used to listen to this tape. I also had two different versions of Empire, and one was using dialog and sound from the movie, the other... was not.
I've always been a fan of Star Wars since I was a lad. In Return of the Jedi, I favored Luke Skywalker And his father, Anakin Skywalker. If I had a character to pick, it would be Like Skywalker.

@Ryan TheFilmMaker this is fantastic! I cannot find the Star Wars or Empire strikes Back versions on your channel? They did such a great job of isolating the original dialogue that has been lost in so many remixes and special editions. Thank you for uploading this !
Damn. I wish I'd had this version. The one I had featured goofy dialogue and bad-acting barely-soundalikes. I do remember "This is the story of Return of the Jedi. You can read along with me in your book. You will know it is time to turn the page when you hear R2-D2 beep like this..."
I had the empire one way back in the pre vcr days when you inky had one tv in the living room I would record jedi w a cassette recorder then scream everytime someone talked I’M RECORDING!!!!
Hi, pretty sure you are right. There are at least 2 dozen cases of alternate takes being used. As well as sound effects and music. I even caught a few lines taken from other movies in the trilogy. Good times :) Most of us have seen the movies enough times to have things memorized and know when something is off. :) Cheers from Canada
I remember getting this from the book bus in Seattle we didn’t have a library in my neighborhood I’m South Park because it’s in a valley at the edge of Seattle and everything is up a big hill or downtown it is at the city limit just a little neighborhood that was next to Boeing and the industrial area and it had a river that goes thru it no way for a kid to get out of there on his bike just to far and I put in for the months before and it finally came I was so happy I dubbed it as a matter of fact this was my first dub lolz wow
Can we shout out how there were many alternate takes of lines are on these tapes/records?! Sometimes they were better than the ones actually used in the films in my opinion.
