  • Experienced tumbler makers do not need to watch this video. This is aimed at addressing how to properly mix epoxy for new makers out there. If you have been making cups for a while, you probably won’t learn anything from this video. 😁
    Here are the affiliate Amazon links for the stuff mentioned:
    Metal stir sticks: amzn.to/35Oq33U
    Silicone brush: amzn.to/354ppyh
    Envirotex Epoxy (I usually buy this at Michaels with a coupon, but is often similarly priced on Amazon)
    Gallon kit amzn.to/2MpmoBS
    32 ounce kit amzn.to/2Qdoaay
    16 ounce kit amzn.to/399KJWg
    Here's the eBay link to the Lego mold. It comes from overseas, but I don't remember it taking long to arrive: www.ebay.com/itm/Lego-Toy-Bri...

      I honestly have no idea! It has never happened to me before. The parts used had been sitting in open cups in my workspace, so they may have had dust particles in them. I really don’t know. But it definitely made a good example of what you don’t want to use to ruin a cup! 🤣

    I’m new to the tumbler world! I love it! I have tried 3 different epoxy brands so far. 1st envirotex lite my favorite. I get the best movement with my inks and additives but i break out in hives everywhere it touches my. Second art resin, great very prices not quite and the paint don’t react as well but I’m not allergic. Third Mas’ Art Pro which has a plastic smell. Only breaks me out if it touches my skin but mixes very thick so is a great top coat but the inks and seem to sink to the bottom of the epoxy not really blending well. I called Mas customer service they suggested to add 5% alcohol to the epoxy to thin it and maybe get the action I’m looking for but I haven’t tried it yet, maybe today☺️. After all this what I’m asking is what is your go to epoxy? Also maybe a video on or advice on getting the epoxy to cling to the rim of the cup and the edge of the bottom. Thank you. Bonnie

    I see videos of people sanding their cups, sometimes before and sometimes after putting their vinyl on the cup. How do we know if we need to sand or not. I also saw one talking about epoxy getting under their vinyl and lifting it. How will I know if that's going to happen?

    • @ThePurpleStitch
      @ThePurpleStitch  Рік тому

      Sanding will help the vinyl and next layer of epoxy stick better. Definitely sand if the epoxy is fully cured, but don’t scratch up your vinyl. Sometime epoxy will hide it (on the vinyl), but not always. To prevent lifting, let it sit a day-ish. Or you can put a thin layer of uv resin over first.

      I like to warm mine when it’s cold with my shop light before hand. Some days, it doesn’t matter what I do. But that seems to help. The downside is that I seem to have less work time when I do that. Also, I use a metal stir stick and it seems to be better than a wooden one.

    So I am having problems with my epoxy "pulling away" from my tumbler after applying and sometimes within 3 minutes of applying it. I don't know if it's the brand of alcohol inks I am using, shouldn't be, but it's so frustrating!!! I mix my epoxy SLOW and wait until it's clear and then after I apply my epoxy, I use a heat gun to get the bubbles out, then apply the alcohol ink....I don't get it? I do two more coats of epoxy and they fill in, but all the videos I watch, non are "pulling away" from the cup like mine....oh, I even sand, clean with alcohol and coffee filter, spray paint with a matte finish, for prep before the epoxy. ANY IDEAS?

    • @ThePurpleStitch
      @ThePurpleStitch  2 роки тому

      Yes! When this happens to me, it’s almost always on a chunky glitter. Other times I touched it and it is repelling away from oil from my hands. Try a coat of matte clear spray paint, let it dry, then coat. It made all the difference in the world for me!

    Hi again!
    Have your epoxy gone bad over time?
    I have 16 oz left of both parts of my epoxy that I bought about 6 months ago. I used it and it few days ago and didn’t cure. I noticed the part A isn’t as dense as it used to. The cup after 3 days isn’t fully cured. There are some sticky parts.
    First I thought that I didn’t measured correctly but I used it today something is different, I’m afraid it’s gone bad. I live in the tropic and it’s above 80 and humid.
    Thanks

    • @ThePurpleStitch
      @ThePurpleStitch  4 роки тому

      I haven’t had that happen yet since I haven’t had a set sit long. I did have some leftovers turn extremely yellow but it was already destined for the trash. Maybe experiment with setting it close to a heat source and let it turn a few hours? I’m not sure how much humidity will affect it.

    it is Mrs. Purple i just typed how to mix Epoxy Resin with electric Scale, and the first 2 videos "Tutorials" i quoted cus reads tutorials but fail to speak in the video, i think one was a Mute and the other thought it was a music video, LoL oh my only in 2021. So i thank you for this, also there are other Resins that are measured differently i think one is the Resin and the other the Hardner, and one you pour a lot and the other you pour a Bit??? i haven't used it but incase i did, you mention you have a couple of tutorials, have you used that type of Resin i just mentioned? not the one you pure Equal amounts but the other one resin the other harder, but ty for this video. Also thanks for the Leggo Idea for like leftover Resins you may not need to pour in a mold and build it up thas cool.

      I’m glad it helped! Some brands do use weight to measure, but a lot are by actual volume like the one I used. I have one that is a 1:2 mix instead of 1:1, but I haven’t used it yet. Each brand will have their instructions posted either on the packaging or on the website. I know some crafters do weight on all epoxy, but that makes me nervous since that’s not for all brands😬. Right now I’m working on a TARDIS mold, I can’t wait to see how it looks!

      You could probably clean them out right away with a baby wipe. I haven’t done that since I feel like it doesn’t really save any waste. There are silicone cups that are easily reusable. You typically let the leftover epoxy cure, then pop it right out. I’ve been thinking about getting some. 🤔🥰
