Old news. Shares mean close to nothing (alone). That was last year. Engagement is everything. Engagement = comments, dms, shares, replies to stories, on going convos, period, story sticker usage/engagement, ect.
I'm not experiencing the "share" phenomenon. I had a recent post shared a dozen or so times. It has 1,600 views. But another post with 2 shares has over 2k views. This has been consistent for the last 3 or so months. I've found, at least with my content, it's watch time and rewatch time that has driven the most views. Great interview. Brock is a damn rockstar, been following him for years.
Because your content isn't at a level where it matters yet. the difference between 1,600 and 2k isn't significant enough. You'll see how shares are important when you get a viral video with 20k+ views
@@BroMaxxing not true for me. Maybe it's the case for you. I've had several professionally produced videos (I own a media company that produces TV shows, etc, one of the shows is currently on Fox). Even with the professional produced content split tested, etc. the results have been consistent.. Watch and rewatch time are king when it comes to my content. This doesn't mean what you suggest applies to a wider audience. For me the hares just don't have the juice But your overall message is relevant for this not producing high quality content.
Really awesome you got Brock on here! Really enjoy Brock's content. Just subscribed! I'm working on building a coaching business to coach indie musicians.
Started with Instagram last year and after the first year I hit 400k 😊 followers are real and engagement is good 👍 that was my growth phase, and now it's time to monetize for real 😏
@@BrianEllwood Find a niche (that's kinda my thing) do the work... I was consequently uploading everyday for 4 months, before the first reel went viral (+1 mill) 1 reel 3-5 stories. And after that I kept going for 1 year everyday. 1 big thing and most important is shares, just make shareable content, something with emotions.
I have to agree, massive amount of content that is educational and actionable. Thank you @BrianEllwood for hosting the interview and the insightful questions! Thank you too Brock Johnson for sharing amazing stuff.😊😊😊😊
Nice pod man!! I am an artist and use a personal account, I get pretty good engagement, then I change it to a professional account and pay to boost the account to grow, the result is I get quite a lot of followers and likes, after the funds for the boost run out I always get 0 every time I post and reel. is this because I once boosted my account? then I changed it back to a personal account and the result is still the same, always 0, what I regret is changing the account to pro and doing boosting, because after that my account feels like there is no engagement, it is very unfortunate if in the end it is a matter of money power.
What about being a concert content creator ? How do I make it happen and grow a wider audience? I am close to 10k subscribers here but my watch time have not hit 4,000 hours .
my best reels interms of likes and shares compared to views are doing worse for some reason. I made one reel that did like 15x better but the ratio of likes/share to views are waaaay worse. I don't get it man.
This was fantastic, thank you for posting such a value packed video. I abandoned IG over the past few years and am actively considering jumping back in. I took so many notes from this conversation, so thank you again! I do have a question out of pure curiosity - what AI video generator did you use in that video example you showed? That was freakishly real. Had you not mentioned it was AI generated, I would have guessed you recorded that. 🤯
Hey Brian , really nice video ! I was wondering if I could help you with more Quality Editing in your videos and also make a highly engaging Thumbnail and also help you with the overall youtube strategy and growth ! Pls let me know what do you think ?
Serve.... I think that's game word. I think they mean sell. I hate being sold. I hate spending money lol therefore I don't want to "serve" anyone anything
What if I’ve changed my page name or username multiple times across 7 years..? I read somewhere on the settings that it affects the authenticity of my account or something and by that I think they mean it hurts the algorithm.. Can’t find it now

Thanks for this comment! Great insights. I really liked Brock’s five types of shareworthy content. That was a big epiphany for me.
Old news. Shares mean close to nothing (alone). That was last year. Engagement is everything. Engagement = comments, dms, shares, replies to stories, on going convos, period, story sticker usage/engagement, ect.
Posting reels isn’t a content strategy , just like talking isn’t a listening strategy 👏🏾

Brock is great ...Insta, his podcast...he is very generous and gives very helpful advices 😊 Thank you for inviting him and sharing with us ❤❤❤
Yeah he’s a true student of the game and his results prove it!
First time listening to either of you. Great personalities and presence. Very interested in checking out both of your content further.
Thanks Steven! I appreciate you listening and glad you're here.
Brian, you have so many good Podcasts. Thank you so much for everything.... Really much appreciated.
Appreciate you being here and growing with us!
This video is inspiring me to go back and post with purpose 😊. 300 bad post before getting a good one is a good reference point 😅
post with purpose, I love that. I think purpose/mission are increasingly important in business as a whole with the way things are trending.
This is GOLD
glad you liked it! Thx for being here.
Amazing content, can’t thank you both enough ❤
Appreciate you and glad it helped! 😂
Saved it for the weekend and watched it now - Very valuable stuff. Thank you!
I appreciate you watching!
I am of course getting all the Halloween ads after Brock's mention of his recent early decorating story 😂Great interview, thank you Brian!

Brilliant and so helpful - thank you so much from Germany 🇩🇪
glad it was helpful, thanks for listening!
That was absolutely incredible information 💪🏻💯
Appreciate you being here!
That checklist was brilliant, tyvm
I sometimes get likes on my stories from accounts that don't follow me, so I guess that has changed
I think shares are a great boost, but retention is king.
Great presentation, first time here, I am very interested in the content. Shared with a few others who will also find value.
Glad you're here Michelle, and I really appreciate you sharing it!
You need need need to add chapters to your videos if you’re to have any hope of keeping our attention
It is a podcast. It doesn't need chapters. If you need to jump around the video, then it probably is not for you.
Thanks for the feedback. I have been using UA-cam’s auto chapter feature but maybe it’s not good enough.
@@BrianEllwood it doesn't seem to work cause I don't see them chapters, I like chapters!
Don’t speak for us Laura
Kept my attention just fine - I might use chapters in a tech review once it’s my 10th video but this is pure gold thru n thru!
Loved this, he dropped some gems!
Good one. Great questions, great answers.
appreciate you listening!

I’m sure, at a minimum, it would qualify as one of the “strikes” Brock talks about.
Dude. Just run ads. 😂
who even uses instagram these days...
This does not work for the artist. thus IG is totally a dead meat for anyone doing art
