If you’re wondering why the lyrics are so dark is because the singer (Corey Taylor) use to be in a poor family with only his mom and sister (he had no dad) he started drinking when he was 8, he smoked when he was 11, and he was r@ped when he was 10, there’s a therapist video out there were he talks about all of that
Self titled was honestly a break through for metal. Cause a lot of labels were scared to sign a band like slipknot and a lot of critics thought slipknot wouldn’t be successful but Corey proved all of those a holes wrong
scissors is in my opinion one slipknots darkest songs, about a guy with an abusive girlfriend who pushes him to suicide. The whole feel of the track is extremely raw and full of emotion, one of their best imho
The number sequence is the serial number on the bar code of the first cd. Its to signify slipknot being "commercialized" after the signed. They are labeled 0 through 8 to signify "symbolically" they are disposable and replaceable as corporations are want to do

As someone who was a teenager (and right in the target audience for this: also being a disenfranchised midwest delinquent) when it dropped in the summer of 1999, words could never express how cool its been to see a whole new generation discover and appreciate the pure genius and game changing nature of this album and "Iowa" on the world!
This just made my day bro. I love when people react to Slipknots early albums because most people react to their hits only, like psycho social and think that’s heavy. Well sure that is heavy but their first two albums are heavier because it is nothing like their hits. Next album reaction is Iowa I’ll be waiting on that. It’s my favorite album by them still to this day🤘‼️
Just letting you know I watched all 54:48 of this video and I have to say this is the best self titled reaction I’ve seen so far out of the only couple that are out there there’s only like 2 others out there and neither of them included the hidden tracks like yours did and if you didn’t know the songs “Get this” and “purity” are hidden tracks and album version you listened to thankfully had them the other reactions didn’t
Thise aren't hidden tracks actually. Purty and Get This were bonuses that were added for the 10th anniversary of the album. Purity got taken off because of copyright and get this was never on the album to begin with.
Ah yes good ol' selftitled! This album started it all :D Every half a year i give it another run beginning to end, just taking it all in with headphones on, in my comfy chair. its my favorite album of all time no competition. a buddy on the fucking school ground listened to it, i went to him and asked what he was listening to. he gave me a listen and i was BLOWN AWAY INSTANTLY. it was right before IOWA came out. this album captivated me in ways NOTHING ever had. i didnt know there was music out there that could sound that way. i basically listened to this and iowa 4 years nonstop :D it went so far in the beginning that i was going to bed listenting to the more "quieter" songs (scissors, iowa and so on) and woke up with "i am hated" or something for awhile. What a time that was man.
I love this reaction. So many of that reaction to Slipknot online are people freaked out about the music videos or how they look they don't actually listen to the music.I Appreciate you getting in there and hearing their message.
Bro, to this day, Iowa is still the angriest metal album I've ever heard... sure you have bands like slaughter to prevail, lorna shore and many others that bring the intensity. But slipknot captured something on Iowa that cannot be replicated
Orphan - Porcelain. Album is the only thing since Iowa I’ve heard that actually reaches towards Iowa. And Iowa was one of their major inspirations, specifically the manic nature of the recording sessions and the raw emotion. Not as musically complex, but stupid heavy. Shit is so unhinged. Vocals are crazy. If none of y’all have heard it, do yourself a favor. Start at the first song. Another once in a lifetime album. Two brothers do vocals, one tore a hole in his esophagus recording the shit. Wild.
That "Let me breathe" after Surfacing is so accurate. I asked my mom to buy me this CD in 1999. I was 13. The lyrics "Fuck it all. Fuck this world. Fuck everything that you stand for. " are featured very large in the middle of the booklet and I STILL wasn't prepared for this song.

I love the reaction man! Great album from a great band im gonna try to see them this year. And just a little fun fact, they were inspired to wear mask from a band called "Mr Bungle" which I'd recommend aswell, that band is almost like a circus but great imo. Keep it up though man.
Yo when I tell you this is a good ass time right here. Played this on the daily with Iowa back in highschool days, and was experiencing that again with this video, cant wait for iowa
I was 12 when this masterpiece came out. My cousin saved up money to buy the album after hearing wait and bleed on Conan obrian show. We blew the speakers on 2 stereos that day. Had to listen to last few songs on a hello kitty stereo cause other stereos were broken. Liberate! My madness!! Goes hard as F to this day lol
For the linkin park album u should do hybrid theory first and then do meteora after so it's in order of its release and they like neck and neck anyways
Please react to Slipknots album Vol 3 (The Subliminal Verses), quite a contrast to their earliest two albums (which I absolutely love btw!!) in terms of having some acoustic and slower tracks also which are great ❤️
Tattered & Torn, Frail Limb Nursery, and Purity are a trilogy (on the first release of the album). They're best listened to all in a row. Now you know. :D Frail Limb Nursery got removed from the album due to a copyright claim from an author, but Slipknot won the rights back for Purity in a court case 10 years later.
i'm new to this channel and right away i can see that you appreciate percussive elements in music :) the drumming on this album is something else.... something raw and almost tribal about it, but it's also not too 'noisy'. i can't quite explain how it makes me feel ^^ and that was kinda lost on their next album.
Fucking love this man! Your reaction was great! The whole thing is insane, All the songs would be in my top 5 aha! If I had to choose I would say 1.Eyeless 2.Purity 3.Get This. They have an incredible live performance DVD in London 2002, called Disasterpieces that I think you'd absolutely love! Purity from that concert is my favourite performance ever! :D Thankfully there's a high quality upload of the whole thing on YT. You could do a reaction to all of it (That would be unbelievable). I dunno if it's more likely to get blocked cause it's live but others have done vids of individual songs, so if you are interested hopefully it goes fine. Regardless, keep doing what you're doing Dante! Enjoy you're journey! 🤘💚
i listen to lots of extreme music and still to this day, no other album sends me into a massive adrenaline rush than this album. The closest I've heard is Vein's album Errorzone. Theyre more of a hardcore band in the vein(lol) of Converge if Converge was really into the Matrix soundtrack, and the drumming is influenced by slipknot and elecronic drum and bass music. You should definitely react to that album, as a relatively newer band doing massive shows, they deserve attention.
Honestly Nu Metal is the best way to get into Metal if you're a hip hop enyoyer, and Slipknot (specially those first two albums) are the perfect mix of Sampling and atmospheric synths mixed with the most extreme grooves and riffs! Deftones is also great
Great reaction 🔥 ‘Snap’ ‘Interloper’ and ‘Despise’ are bonus demo tracks in this album. You should react to those as well, and some lyrics may be dark but the singer (Corey Taylor) has been through a lot and I believe was homeless before he joined the band.
I so desperately wish I could travel back to 9 years old and hear this album for the first time all over again. It truly is a masterpiece of an album. The prime example of DIY. They shelled out $40,000 to make this album at a time when that was literally all the money they had. They took a gamble because they knew they would be great. Truly inspiring stuff. Scissors was actually written by Joey, and the original title was "A Heartache and a pair of Scissors" or something along the lines of that. The whole song is about addiction to drugs, self-harm, and suicide. Corey just made the song come to life with how crazy he gets when recording, man just goes into a trance and it's terrifying.
One of if not my absolute favorite album ever. Also in the intro she was saying "the whole thing, I think it's sick" honestly not sure what the context is
Mushroomhead "Self-Titled" next please! Most of the tracks have such a great groove and high energy! The album is from 1995, and it has some rapping flows too!
The original version of Scissors was like 20 mins long. There was a giant pause at the end of the actual song and then it cut into audio clips of the band reacting to scat porn ☠️ Iowa truly does make them different
The song is called Eeyore. It’s a pretty good song, it was actually in scissors from a hidden song after what I heard what was the band reacting to p**n.
Bro, I love how you see the drumming in this, I'm only at (sic) but your energy is amazing. If you're ever in Denver, and if you smoke bud, please let me smoke you up and jam with you. I have some bangers you'd really like. Also, check out the rapper Melancholy Ali. He's a buddy of mine from high school and damn does he slay!
If your going to listen to Slipknot, you gotta react to one of their biggest influences KoRns self-titled album. You will love it. *** Be careful and do your research on the last song.
MANNNNNNNN this album is a classicccccc!!! I mean I think you know already but IOWA has to be up next. It is the most angry, vile, don't give a f energy the band had. It was a point around 2001/2002 where the band hated basically everything. The aesthetic was SIC!!! live shows were SIC!!!! especially London 2002 is a must performance to watch when you get the chance man! But this is just the beginning. The song Scissors Corey had to get in a mindset of a complete psychopath and go to a place he never has been before. The producer Ross Robinson pushed the whole band and especially Corey to the max. Yes I believe that was him tat threw up at the end from giving 500% lol. The next album IOWA has a song that is like Scissors but crazier when you get the backstory of it. I'm jut going to let you know Corey(main vocalist) stripped completely naked and cut himself with glass around him for the most real effect. Even Clown(Shawn Crahan, their percussionist) said that was the craziest thing he has seen. Also a song on IOWA just as a heads up, Corey describes in one song that is a part 2 from self titled "Diluted", basically about his father that he never knew until he was 30 something years of age and lets it all out. So be prepared for it lol. In this album (Chris Fehn, Percussionist) wasn't in the band yet it was Josh Brainard and another before (James Root, Guitarist). The person you hear on the drums is the GREAT Joe/ Joey Jordison RIP, one of the most influential metal drummers of all time. Also in the lineup was Paul Grey, Bassist RIP. Also imma leave you with this and then I'm going to link you some websites to learn some 'lore" or backstories to the band that reliable. Corey Taylor the vocalist after Andy Colsefini, I don't know how to spell his last name lol, left the band in 95 I think, blew out his voice after recording this album(self titled) and was only able to talk for a short time during the day a doctor said to him. Then you will hear in IOWA his voice has a little change to it and he was also a few pounds heavier and a crazy alcoholic and drinking two bottles a day or some shit i can't remember lol. But yet again in recent years he has been sober for a long time now and in great health so that's good. I'm just preparing you for the knots heaviest and darkest album IOWA. Also (Craig jones, the great sampler and a person of very few words was a guitarist before becoming a sampler). I just thought that was cool to add lol. Also this was not their first project btw, MFKR( Mate, Feed, Kill, Repeat) was the very first project they made before Corey was even in the band and the cost to make it was around 40k I think out of their own pocket, Which is absolutely crazy. If you have a copy of that cd with Joey on the cover and the original merch the band put out, you have some rare shit in your hands lol. Great video man and I can't wait to see you indulge yourself even further into one of the most legendary metal band of all time. Links below for lore and info: www.mfkr1.com/online/ nathanjonasjordison.com/ Much love man!!!!
@@paradoxdeityvessel AHHHHHHH yeah wait I remember that shit. But it wouldn't surprise me if Corey didn't for the reason his techniques were bad and the way he was screaming was causing him to throw up. But I do remember that theory. I kind of wish Corey could tell the story of who that was in one of his Q&A's but people seem to ask the most obvious questions instead of the most interesting ones so I guess we'll never get that answer.
"Somos feos y apestamos pero reinamos todo" is Spanish for: "We are ugly, we stink, but we reign everything."

That sample is from a documentary about the Manson murders. Not “movies and stuff”.
(RIP) to Joey jordison still insane it’s been 3 years since joeys death.
Great reaction, waiting for iowa album 🔥
future metal head detected
This album gos super hard probably there most hardest album
You gotta do the Iowa album next!!!!
You need to do IOWA man, i hope someone can drop some songs meanings and that, it makes it 100% better
The numbers on the first track is the serial number on their demo called "mate feed kill repeat" it has a different singer too
The singer basically left before they got famous. Also during scissors it’s cool that you can hear the beginning part of interloper
🤘hell yeah🤘
in case you were still curious the entire time of the 742 intro they are just saying "the whole I think is sick"
Bro yes 💯
Next is the band's best album ever in their career. Fucking IOWA.
Second best, after Vol. 3.
If your going to listen to Slipknot, you gotta react to one of their biggest influences KoRns self-titled album. You will love it. *** Be careful and do your research on the last song.
SIC reaction 🤘😂 for me this is the best album of all times
Absolutely love Slipknot. But I will never not hear
Liberate! Bananas 🍌!
Links below for lore and info:

Much love man!!!!
Edit: I could have some info wrong about Josh and some "lore" points but don't quote me, it's been awhile lol.
No, it was actually percussionist Chris Fehn that throws up at the end of scissors. The band forced him to watch a scat film I believe.
@@paradoxdeityvessel Thanks for the correction btw!! 🙌🙌.
@@WavEZ13 no problem!! :))
Thats a weird order purity is after tattered and torn on the original
