A prodigy is born. It's amazing to think that Maninder Singh's last Test appearance came when he was 27. He was only 17 years 193 days old when he made his Test debut, against Pakistan in Karachi in 1982-83, and was India's youngest cricketer at the time. Maninder was a subtle slow left-armer who seemed a natural heir to Bishan Bedi, even down to the fact that he bowled in a patka. But at the top level he was a bit of a fair-weather performer. Against the heavyweights (Australia, West Indies and Pakistan), he took 45 wickets in 26 Tests at an average of 55. Against the rest (England, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe) he took 43 wickets in only nine Tests at an average of 19. He was also the last man out in the tied Test against Australia in Madras earlier that winter.

I remember he was going through some personal struggles n tried to commit suicide by slitting his wrist. I read about that in newspaper. It was long time ago. He was a good cricket analyst. Wish him good luck.

Maninder was a decent bowler who could not reach the heights of Bishan Singh Bedi..Another decent left arm spin bowler(Venkatapathy Raju) ended Maninder's career in 1993..

Raju was not good to a large extent. Kumble was the only bowler to survive the 1990's through to the 2000's from the spinners revolution since the home series against Eng till the home series against NZ in 1995. India played only 4 away tests in this time in SL and NZ.

Unlucky when he took 7 in the match. He started at 18 with his test debut against Pakistan. May be too early. He could have made his debut at 20. 7 wickets in a match definately he should have played 3 tests more atleast.
