    I’m new to archery/crossbow hunting and at 62 I need the lighted nocks. Did my first few today, saw the drilling method but thought it was overly complicated. Luckily mine are just pressed in so I used pliers to hold the nocks and twisted the arrows out. Worked fine, but I do like the idea of using a metal rod instead, no sense in taking a chance on buggering up a $10 shaft for a $2 nock, lol. Will be using the metal rod moving forward, thanks for the tip. Really appreciated your testimony at the end; walk with the Father brother, and you’ll never go wrong. Liked & subbed, be blessed. 👍✝️

    Great video and very helpful. I just got lighted nocks and was searching on how to hange them out and your video was very helpful, especially using the wire to push the old ones out. Great video! Last year I switched out my compound bow for a crossbow. One evening I had a nice buck at 49 yrs from my tree stand. I shot and KNEW I had hit him. When I arrived at the spot where he was standing, I did not see any hair or blood. Nothing. I looked where the bolt should have been. Nothing. After a while of searching the area for blood and the bolt, I found it to the left of where the buck was standing (considerable off course). NO WAY I missed that deer by that much. The bolt had hit a branch on its path to the deer and threw it left. It took me forever to find that bolt. This year I am adding lighted nocks to my arsenal. Happy Hunting!!!

      Awesome! Glad it worked well for you. Also just as a tip if you ever need to make some bent wire straight just place one end in a vice and chuck the other end in a drill. Give it a twist for about a second or two and it will not only straighten the wire, but stiffen it. Thanks so much for watching and may God bless you!

      You are so welcome! I'm glad that you found the video and the message a help and I want you to be encouraged that God loves you so very much and knows your struggle! I am reminded of a story about a young boy and his father getting ready to cross a busy street. As they stepped up to the curb they joined hands. The boy looked up at his father and said "are you going to hold my hand"? The father said "of course". The boy then said "I'm so glad because I might get scared and let go! As we walk with God sometime we let go, but the thing to remember is that God never lets go of us. Even in our disobedience God still pursues us and draws us back to him. When we make a decision turn back to God and put our faith in Christ, God not only saves us, but adopts us as his child and then begins a good work to change us from the inside out. Sometimes that process happens quickly and other times it is much slower. Much of it depends on our ability to surrender the things to God that he asks us to. In doing so he can replace those things that draw us away from him with more of himself and in doing so build a relationship of intimacy with him. If you haven't done so already I'd encourage you to read my FREE book "Growing Deep" the link to which is inheritancewm.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Growing-Deep-Updated-2021-2.pdf The book isn't a long read, but it might offer to you some steps to help you in your walk with God and in growing closer to him. Thanks so much for taking the time to share and to check our the channel and may God bless you richly my friend. Stay encouraged! God loves you so so much is not through with you yet! I'm praying for you today!

Although I suffered deeply during my cancer journey it was one of the greatest blessings I have ever received from the Lord. It took me through a dark time where He revealed who He really was to me and he brought me to a point of intimacy with him that I could never have found without it. I will be praying for you Carl that God would use your cancer as well to draw you to a place of deep communion with God, that you might experience all the fullness of God. Great job on this video! You made it look so easy! I actually realized as I watched this that I too had bought these nocks from Amazon over a year ago, and they were in the top drawer of my desk! I've actually been using both Lumenoks (Burt Coyote), and also Nockturnals. They have helped me see how I've missed on my videos, but I've never been able to find the arrows! I'm going to try and install some of these this year, and see how they compare to the more expensive ones I've been using! What kind of crossbow are you shooting? And are thoses G 5 Montec heads?

    • @thefrugalsportsman
      @thefrugalsportsman  2 роки тому

      Thanks so much for your kind words. For the price I really like these nocks, but I'd be curious to see if you find a difference in the more expensive brand after changing them out. I shoot a CenterPoint Amped 415 crossbow and also a Jaguar 175 lb. recurve crossbow. The broadheads I use on the Jaguar (only shooting at around 200 FPS) are Thunderheads (3 blade) and those are the ones you saw in the video and I think they are 100 grains and do a good job on the lighter slower bow. On my Amped 415 bow I shoot Snuffer broadheads also 3 blade (125 grains, with a steel broadhead adapter of 125 grains) making the heads about 250 grains. I mount those on a heavier pile driver arrow for a total weight of a 619 grain arrow. This set up is mainly for hunting blackbear here in PA. an is more than enough for whitetails. You might want to check out my video on arrow select and why I choose what I do. Here is the link in case you are interested: ua-cam.com/video/hXVfRI4MfrY/v-deo.html Hope that was helpful. What arrow size are you using 350, 400, or 500? I am new to crossbow hunting and recently picked up the Centerpoint Amped 415. I have found your videos very helpful. I still have a lot to learn. Thank you for sharing.

    • @thefrugalsportsman
      @thefrugalsportsman  3 роки тому +2

      Hey congrats on your new Amped 415 purchase and thanks for your encouraging words. When talking arrow / bolt size I go by weight measured in grains. The arrows that came with the bow are around 400 grains with a field point and I believe that is the minimum you should shoot. I choose to shoot a heavier arrow. I purchased Carbon Express Pile Drivers weighing 442 grains including a 100 grain field point and then will be switching out the field point for a 250 grain snuffer broadhead for hunting (I also purchase 250 grain field points for practice) I will also be adding lighted nocks to the arrows which will add another 10 grains. That brings my total arrow weight up to 602 grains. Although I will loose some speed (approximately 10 feet per second for every 25 grains added in weight) I'll still should be well above 300 feet per second which is very fast and I will also have greater penetration (I want pass through shots especially for bear). In addition I feel that many fast bows over 400 FPS are having limb damage issues and my guess is the arrows are just too light causing added stress on the limbs like in a dry fire situation. By adding weight to my arrow I feel it will slow down the limbs slightly and help protect them from the added shock. The heavy arrow point also adds weight to the front (front of center or FOC) and allows the arrow to shoot more true because the fletchings have greater leverage to correct the arrow in flight. I'll be doing a complete video on this and tuning the bow very shortly so you might want to consider subscribing if you haven't so you don't miss it. You might also want to check out the "Ranch Fairy" channel too as he deals a lot with that stuff. I hope that helps somewhat. Thanks so much for watching and God bless!

    • @thefrugalsportsman
      @thefrugalsportsman  2 роки тому

      The length of your arrow (or bolt) won't really help you as your nock size is determined by the inside diameter of the arrow shaft you are using. Most are .300, but some like the pile driver are .285 because they have a thicker wall then some other shafts and are heavier. I would recommend that you order a universal nock system as they have different sleeves to match your arrow I.D. (inside diameter) allowing them to be used on any shaft size. Here is a link to the ones I use: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09BG1272G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 I also prefer the green color as I think they show up best. Did you ever try these in the CE piledrivers? I litterally bought the exact same ones that came in yesterday and by sheer luck I came across your video. I had to buy the .300" version and had to sand the nocks to get them to fit. They fit fine but not nearly as tight as the stock piledriver nocks. thinking about using a little bit of superglue to be safe.. just curious how durable they are though. I have the Sniper 370 which is shooting 330 fps. Whats your opinion? do you think they'll hold up at that speed? I jus don't want it to break the nock and cause a partial dryfire. Thanks for sharing!

    • @thefrugalsportsman
      @thefrugalsportsman  3 роки тому +1

      I actually am doing a video on arrow selection (which should be out soon) and am using pile driver arrows which these nocks don't fit. I used my 1" belt sander and like you gently spun them until they fit very snug with force. I feel comfortable with my fit and if you have to work some to get them out I think you should be fine. If they pull right out you might want to glue them, but I would use the slightest amount of glue (as not to effect weight) and something that will loosen in hot water so you can remove them again. I am shooting the Amped 415 and with my added weight of a 250 grain broadhead to the arrow and I estimate them shooting at around 350 fps. I can't speak to them holding up long term, but for the price I'll just change them out if needed. I hope that helps some. Thanks so much for watching and sharing and God bless you!

      You are welcome John! To be honest I had a emergency surgery right after this so I never got to shoot them last year in a hunting situation as I was laid up for eight weeks and so I never had a chance to tune them to my new crossbow. I really like them though and as you said for the price I just pop them out and install new ones when the batteries die. Maybe I should do a video on lighted vs normal nocks for visibility in flight so people can see the difference. I also haven't heard of the Jesus prayer. Thanks so much for watching and God bless!

    Have you used these nocks on a heavy bolt in your centerpoint?

    • @thefrugalsportsman
      @thefrugalsportsman  3 роки тому +1

      I plan to. I have only used them on my other crossbow so far, but that only shoots at around 240 feet per second with a 400 grain arrow setup. For the Amped 415 I plan on using 20" Pile Driver bolts at 332 grains (without points), plus a 125 grain adapter and a 125 grain broadhead. The lighted knocks will add another 20 grains to the tail. This should leave me an arrow with a FOC (forward of center) percentage of around 20%. So they should shoot like a dart. The extra weight should slow things down at around 3 FPS for every 10 grains added. The factory arrows with points are around 400 grains. The arrows I am making comes to 602 grains so the extra 200 grains should drop the speed from 415 fps down 60 fps to around 365 fps so I am assuming they should work just fine as long as their isn't too much pressure on them at initial release due to the added weight. We will see when I tune up the bow this spring! Once I post that video I think we will both have our answer, so keep an eye out for it. Thanks so much for watching! You know there are many people that are religious, but are far from God they think doing certain works or going to church alone will save them, so in reality my channel really isn't about religion it is about sharing the good news of how you can have a right relationship, with God, your sins forgiven and find eternal life. It is the most neglected thing in people's lives, but I can't think of anything more important than where we will spend eternity, which is why I take the time to share about it. The questioned you asked is actually a great one. The answer I think lies with perspective. Not long ago I contracted stage 3 esophageal cancer and told I had only 36 month to live. I could easily have questioned God saying "why did you not protect me from this" but instead of blaming God I viewed him as my strength to endure the situation. It was a long and hard struggle, but one I would never change for anything as God revealed himself to me in the most incredible ways one of them sparing my life. But even if God had allowed me to die I still would have put my faith in him and trusted him. All of us face hardship caused by sin, evil people and bad practices, and even out own choices. If we can only trust God and believe in him when things go well and insist that he stop all wrong doing in this world then what we are looking for in a genie not a God and we would also forfeit our freedom to have free will and the ability to love God and others out of choice not out of demand. There are I think several ways of answering your question and the one I give here might present for you something you might choose to ponder on. Thanks again for sharing and I wish you all the best! God bless!

    How do you align the nock with the vane? I did on 8 arrows but end up shooting to different places, I suspect the variations in the alignment to cocking vane is the problem

    • @thefrugalsportsman
      @thefrugalsportsman  4 місяці тому

      The nock should be aligned so that the odd colored vane (cock vane) is perpendicular to the groove on the nock. That way when the nock groove is running horizontally the same as the limbs, the cock vane should be facing down in the slot of the rail. If you have all your nocks and vanes aligned this way and your arrows are grouping differently then your arrows are probably not spine aligned. If better explain what that is and to tune your arrows properly and get the most accuracy from all them I would recommend watching this video I did so that your bow and arrows are shooting where you aim: ua-cam.com/video/7GoF2HXanGU/v-deo.html Hope that helps. Thanks so much for watching and may God bless you!

    • @statgenie6575
      @statgenie6575 4 місяці тому

      @@thefrugalsportsman The issue for me was that it aligned with cockvane but not precisely, it varies slightly from arrow to arrow. One arrow shooting top left by 2", when I turned the nock clockwise slightly, then it shoots lower right about 2" from POA. I shot it several times to confirm it as I was surprised by how big a difference it could make.
      I watched your video on spine indexing, it and s very useful for making consistent custom arrows.
      Thanks

    • @thefrugalsportsman
      @thefrugalsportsman  4 місяці тому

      @@statgenie6575 One thing you can do to get the nock precisely 90 degrees to the cock vane is the lay the arrow on a table with the cock vane facing up. Then take a straight wire like from a cut wire coat hanger or a welding wire and place it in the groove of the nock. Twist the nock left or right until the wire is the same distance off the table on each end. That way you will know the nock is perfectly aligned the same on all the arrow and they should shoot consistently after doing so. Hope that helps and God bless.
