He was definitely in the Blackwater Massacre, also it was a huge gunfight so I doubt John and Landon would see each others face, also John could’ve had a bandanna on covering his face.
I think the “All the stories you heard are true” line is funnier if you imagine the context of Landon having left for Mexico long before any of these dime novels sensationalising his life were written and he thinks the image John has of him is a legendary but grounded and accurate one, and he has no idea he’s saying that the deliberately over the top FanFiction is the reputation he has back in the states is what’s real. 😂
I always got the impression that the dime novels were produced around the same time as the exploits they were sensationalising, most of them talk about people in the present tense that we know are long dead by 1899. But even if they were written years after the fact Ricketts would most definitely of been aware of them, the dime novel that features Ricketts can be found by Arthur in 1899 and Ricketts didn't leave for Mexico until 1902.
Dime novels were super popular since at least the 1850's that I'm aware of anyway. So many of them were written contemporary to the events they portray, although in an extremely dramatised and not-so-accurate way.

I always liked that Rickets seemed to understand who is. There isn’t an overt sense of pride but not one of shame either just a man who does what he does and tries to do what he feels is good.
Here come all the comments about how ricketts should be the protagonist of rdr3. You know ignoring the redemption part, the fact he’s clearly always been on the lawful side of gunslingers, and ruining all the mystery surrounding the character. Not including the fact the stories are about the death of the west, not the height of it.
I agree, however rdr2 was the death of the west, rdr1 was after its death and how people like John are changing around that. So the next game (if it is another prequel and not jack’s story) would have to take place in the Wild West’s prime.
So that’s why ‘Redemption’ ought to be done for, make either a Red Dead Revolver 2 or some other R word, and with it, bring in a new time period, themes and stories! Almost like how it was the goal for each Half-Life game to be completely different- I know the Half-Life series didn’t work out that way, but it’s still a very neat idea that we’ve seen can work.
Well who should it be about? Sadie? The feminist??? Where “the wild west” would be less prominent? Stop being a hater. It’s important to keep the wild west feeling rather more modern feel. Get over yourself

Ah good old Landon! Of all the gunslingers in the games i think Mr. Ricketts may be my favorite....he just seems so much more genuine and real than the others, like maybe he could've been a real person
Landon Ricketts serves as both an amalgamation of various historic western figures and at the same time a sort of metaphor for the actor who portrayed the character. Ross Hagen was a working actor, he had bit roles or supporting roles in western movies, TV shows and dramas. In a way he never really got his big break until he got older but his big role as Landon Ricketts is a sort of chapter end and metaphor for the passing away of the old west as fact and into legend and then mythos of and for the proud American identity, it also serves as a sort of book end for a chunk of silver age hollywood that no longer exists today sadly. If anyones curious, Landon is an amalgamation of "wild" Bill Hickok, Wyatt Earp and Buffalo Bill Cody.

@Fizhy, I believe it was very possible that Ricketts was at Blackwater during the massacre, and probably either helped out the law, or stayed out of it entirely.
On the newspaper where Ricketts is claimed to have been in blackwater, it says: "amongst many other *rumored* and verified killings..." which says to me that the Blackwater involvement was a rumor even in the first game, with no verification to it's claim-- and the butcher brothers killing was more verified of an event, though that part doesn't really matter as it isn't the topic of conversation.
I want a Red Dead Revolver II. Where the final mission of that game is the Blackwater Massacre and Landon is approached by Arthur Morgan, telling him how much he admires him and such and bam, Pinkertons show up and start blasting mid-dialogue and they mistaken Landon for Javier because of being next to Arthur, which would explain why Landon flees to Mexico
Slim Grant is also on a famous gunslinger card. Slim became a gun slinging law man. Then state martial. Landon waa a gunslinger but I'm sure ive read somewhere in eithee RDR1 or 2 that he was a bounty hunter at one point. I'll have to see if i can find it again.
Yeah he could easily be the protagonist of RDR3 and the final mission is shooting up the Van Der Linde in blackwater. Landon injuring John, not even realizing who he is. I also think it'd be cool if Landon shot The Calendar brothers
I honestly wish we had some kind of online mode where you could get missions from famed gunslingers. We already have Flaco and Black Belle, why not some others maybe Frank Heck!
I think the point about Landon being in the Blackwater Massacre is de facto retconned/decanonised. 2 gives us absolutely zero reason to think anyone outside the immediate VDL gang and the Pinkertons were involved, save civilians like Heidi McCourt, and if an infamous gunslinger like Ricketts was there, someone would have brought it up once in the course of the game. It’s a consequence of changing the Blackwater Massacre into what it became for 2’s story, but it is nevertheless the case that it’s pretty much impossible to think Ricketts was somehow involved and the other survivors/perpetrators of the massacre never mentioned “Hey Arthor, did you know the most famous gunslinger of our time helped us get off the ferry in Blackwater.”
But there's no redemption arc....that's sort of critical. His character is awesome and they put a lot of backstory into him, but there's no larger story there based on how we know him.
There is an movie that got released awhile ago called old Henry(Nelson Blake god tier actor tbh), it's abt hey what if Billy the Kid(yes the gunslinger) faked his death, and became a rancher(it's a good movie, especially when u finally realize its billy the kid.)But im guessing Landon Ricketts did something like this, hence why he's in mexico.
Would be cool if RDR3 is about Landon or Harlow’s kid/grandkid And either Jack is a second protagonist or shows up as a supporting character in missions where you and the other protagonist are going around piecing together the history they didn’t know about Get updated on what Landon was doing all this time, see his perspective of Blackwater and have a whole narrative that he’s on and we learn about Have flashbacks to when Dutch and Hosea met and members like Uncle and others meet Reveal that Uncle ISNT Harlow, BUT the handkerchief in his back pocket IS Harlows, they were riding pals before Uncle joined the gang, maybe his alcoholism got heavy following Harlows passing idk But yeah basically just fill in a bunch of gaps using a narrative around Landon in the past, then a more modern narrative around Landon’s descendant and Jack living in the new version of the map See Charles, Sadie, tribes moving in and fighting over territory that used to belong to the Wapiti, Charles helps them all have reasonable territories with the help of Jack Lots of other things you could explore!
Yes, he's perfect. He has deadeye, he knew jack after John died, and he was pretty ruthless during his time as a gunslinger, so it would make sense for him to have low honor.
@@555-maximized the problem with it being about jack is his story comes too late, the west is finished and it would be telling the same story as rdr1, that gunslingers are a dying breed and how that life is over, to set the next game as Jack would just contradict this as Jack would be a gunslinger meaning that life isn't over, and if it doesn't have the gunslinging spaghetti western setting it isn't red dead redemption anymore.
Thanks for another great video! One nit-pick is that I seem to remember Rickets himself mentioning the Blackwater job to John in RDR1, right before he gave John shooting lessons. I could be wrong, and my game is on PS3, so I can't play it right now to find out. :( Anyone else recall this?
@@Paleolithic_footage Oh, so I may not be crazy! LOL. I should go find someone's playthrough and confirm it. Thanks for letting my know I'm not so far out with this memory.
I’d put money that RDR3 goes further back and ends at the blackwater massacre and you play as either of the character who die in it. And that’s why they aren’t seen
I honestly think he's the protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 3, although they'll probably change the name of the franchise, like Red Revolver, because it's still a universe too big.
Did Landon Rickets kill The Callender Brothers?? We aren’t told about how/when Davey got shot, and Mac wasn’t seen again by anybody except Agent Milton as far as we know. maybe Milton and Rickets tracked down Mac, with Rickets hoping to finish the job he started after he shot Davey?
Rest In Peace, Ross Hagen

There is an movie that got released awhile ago called old Henry(Nelson Blake god tier actor tbh), it's abt hey what if Billy the Kid(yes the gunslinger) faked his death, and became a rancher(it's a good movie, especially when u finally realize its billy the kid.)But im guessing Landon Ricketts did something like this, hence why he's in mexico.
I think rd3 should show what happen in black water I don’t care how they do it but just do it!
Would be cool if RDR3 is about Landon or Harlow’s kid/grandkid
And either Jack is a second protagonist or shows up as a supporting character in missions where you and the other protagonist are going around piecing together the history they didn’t know about
Get updated on what Landon was doing all this time, see his perspective of Blackwater and have a whole narrative that he’s on and we learn about
Have flashbacks to when Dutch and Hosea met and members like Uncle and others meet
Reveal that Uncle ISNT Harlow, BUT the handkerchief in his back pocket IS Harlows, they were riding pals before Uncle joined the gang, maybe his alcoholism got heavy following Harlows passing idk
But yeah basically just fill in a bunch of gaps using a narrative around Landon in the past, then a more modern narrative around Landon’s descendant and Jack living in the new version of the map
See Charles, Sadie, tribes moving in and fighting over territory that used to belong to the Wapiti, Charles helps them all have reasonable territories with the help of Jack
Lots of other things you could explore!

yooo still love these vids about red dead. immortal game!
Another banger, brotha keep it up! 🤠
It would be nice if Rockstar made remake of both Red Dead Redemption 1 and Red Dead Revolver with RD2 graphics.

Who wants to play as a young Landon Ricketts in RDR3🫡❤️
If we get a red dead 3 it should be centered around a very young Landon Ricketts
I would definitely be down to play that !
Yes, he's perfect. He has deadeye, he knew jack after John died, and he was pretty ruthless during his time as a gunslinger, so it would make sense for him to have low honor.
that should b RDR4 RDR3 should be about jack in my opinion
that's so stupid every red dead character has to die or it's not redemption landon is a bad guy in rdr1
Has anyone ever noticed how much Landon Ricketts resembles Lee Van Cleef???
My favorite character in the series my red dead online character is based off of him
Would love to know the song at 19:25 it's so soothing
see the fire in your eyes
What if RDR3 was about Landon Ricketts. What a game that would be!
I said this years ago be epic !❤
I think playing g as a young Dutch would be cool. When rdr2 came out I thought for sure we was gonna able to play as him.
Mandela effect. Forget it and move on.
He says something about the blackwater job but I don't think he says anything about him being there
@@KC.45 Totally could be. I know the Strange man mentioned it when John and he first met. I might be placing bits of that in my recollection. ;)
@@Paleolithic_footage Oh, so I may not be crazy! LOL. I should go find someone's playthrough and confirm it. Thanks for letting my know I'm not so far out with this memory.
@@d.hardenart8917 Confirmation bias or another Mandela effect.
Mark my words rdr3 will be about Landon ricketts
You know, I’m a gunslinger, myself and a bounty hunter I am a mix between the two
Another great vid!
This was a good one
Word I was watching literally typed up Landon last night then today fizh was on the same shit crazy Lool 😂👊🏾
@Fizhy,, Id like to believe that Jack Marston meet Landon Ricketts and got trained by him to prepare to avenge his father
I can't believe Ricketts is only 50 years old...He looks like 78 to me.
Red dead 4 should be about rickets it would be kinda cool
I like cones.
Yk maybe he somehow could've been trying to help them find Dutch and his boys and not physically at the massacre of blackwater itself
Red Dead Ricketts
RDR3 should be about Rickettes & “Uncle” 👍🏾
Playing the game in hardcore, i just let him berate me while he killed the rest of the enemies. EEEZEEEE mission.
