Another reason why bank robberies in the Old West are highly uncommon: Most banks are set up with the front facing towards the sheriff’s office and have no back doors, so even if you did manage to grab the loot, you’ll always be greeted by the local law enforcement after exiting
Fun fact the city in the game, Saint Denis is based very heavily on New Orleans, it has full recreations of buildings that are still in New Orleans today
The Buffalo Bill Center of the West is legitimately fantastic and their staff has been amazingly on point with helping content creators all around the world. Danny did a good job with this too. Absolutely recommend them if you're ever within a half days drive of their location, and I hope to see more of Danny on the channel!
I feel like this dude would shine if you showed him some mundane but specific stuff too like the clothes, food, culture and others. Would love to see his opinion on factions like the Lemoyne Raiders, Del Lobo's, US Army and Cuban Military; And see how accurate or relatable they are irl.
If I had a nickel for every time this channel had a different expert who is also a curator of a firearms museum to analyze RDR2, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's interesting that it's happened twice.
Danny Is awesome! Im about to start employment at the Autry Museum of the American West and I cant wait to see and learn about all these things in-person. Lets get Danny on here again and do more Red Dead Videos. Two thumbs up from me!
Here's hoping we get at least three more episodes about RDR2, because the game is so large (single player), and so diverse, that it needs a playlist. 👏 Well done, Danny!
Another part of Bank Robberies being so prevalent in western pop culture is that it is rather celebrated: Nome Alaska does a reenactment of one every Summer Solstice, with a "Wyatt Earp" arriving to save the day (the bags of money carry candy that gets tossed to onlookers as it's just after a parade). Seeing it once a year keeps it in the mind of the people. (Fun fact, too: Growing up in Nome, I had a descendant of Earp as a Gym teacher in grade school)
@@DinaricUbermensch I do feel like it is purposely restrictive until you complete the story. Even before then though it only restricts you from going past blackwater as Arthur. Well that and of course the map edges... I am sad though that you can't go to Mexico or across the river on the east side of the map even though all of the land actually still exists super far from the playable area. Edit: you can go to Mexico and across the river but you need to mod the game to reach the other side.
Danny is no Jonathan that's for sure, but I still found this video really interesting. He doesn't exactly have that certain charming quality that Jonathan does, but I still liked Danny here, he seems like a cool guy who knows his stuff and he seems to enjoy talking about his knowledge of it. I wouldn't mind seeing more of Danny and listening to him talk more about the old west in Rdr2 and other western games!
he should script it out a little more to make it flow smoother. I feel like a lot of what he wanted to say was just out of reach in his brain because I'm sure he has a wealth of knowledge

First off, welcome to the "videos I'll click on no matter what I already have playing" club, Danny. For the Spencer, he removes the tube, then dumps another tube in and puts the first tube back in. It looks to me like the game designers thought you added powder instead of cartridges, but I may be misinterpreting something.
either this guy played the game or whoever gave him the cliff notes did an amazing job. finally an expert that acknowledges that yeah the reloading speed is a bit unrealistic but arthur is supposed to be an incredible gunslinger so it's easier to suspend your disbelief lol. I'd love to see more from danny about rdr2 especially about more mundane details like other comments said, things like everyday tools and life
I think once he gets used to speaking in front of the camera, this content will become great. It is already really good, I really like seeing RDR2 analysed through that angle. I think there is some room for improvement but it is a great start.
I mean, unless you were hitting up the bank of a MAJOR city, at the time there was no "We want the bank's money, not your money, your money is insured by the Federal Government and you won't lose a dime", in small towns on the Frontier, banks held directly the savings of the townsfolks and the government couldn't care less, so of course the citizenship felt much more involved in quelling an eventual robbery Plus, unless you had a Wyatt Earp sheriff a la "NO GUNS ALLOWED IN THIS TOWN", everyone was packing in order to protect themselves from wildlife, indians, bandits and such
On bank robberies being rare. I think the game makes a nod that robbing banks were rare because when you first head into town to scope out the place Karren tell sarthur that she knows robbing banks are a waste of time but maybe they will be lucky with this one because it is a livestock town.
The point you made about the bank robbery being rare is so cool because that’s the only profitable bank in the whole game, the rest of the robberies are a letdown unless it’s a train or a stagecoach and most of the time there is a lack or physical currency. The best thing in the game to find is gold bars or ingots.
I’m way too late to ever get seen but I’d love to have another old west Danny episode! I have it on good authority from a bearded man named Othais that Danny is awesome.
Probably one of the less famous gunfighters was Luke Short who was involved in several gunfights. His most famous three gunfights were almost always at very close range and occurred because one or both of the men involved misconstrued what was going on and, in fear for their lives, drew weapons. The concept of a good guy/bad guy standing in the street at what was in reality rather long range and drawing simultaneously almost never happened. I believe the only clearly documented such gunfight involved Bill Hickock and and Davis Tutt. While most movie gunfights are patterned after that one, it was more remarkable because of its rarity rather than it being a common example. In most gunfights in the west, very much like today, the opponents knew one another and the reason for the fight was fairly trivial.
My parents took me to Cody WY when I was a kid. My dad was disappointed my mom didn't let him spend enough time in the Cody Firearm Museum. It's on my list to get back. I told my wife I'll be spending time there!
3:50 was a breath of fresh air to hear. We ain’t spoken of/shown much, but there definitely are (and have been) black cowboys. It hits close to home for me, being raised on reclaimed plantation land.
We love around Denver and our house was built in the late 1800s, and then redone in 1947. We joined a historic Facebook page that shows old photos from our area and it's amazing to see the change in just a little over 100 years.
I think Rockstar did well reproducing actual Firearms of the period, but I think the reason they always change the names is to avoid having to deal with multiple companies that have the rights to the name because they make reproductions. Good video. The guy seems to know his stuff.👍
Hickok fight took place in springfield On July 21, 1865, the two men faced off in Springfield's town square, standing sideways before drawing and firing their weapons. Their quick-draw duel was recorded as the first of its kind.[28] Tutt's shot missed, but Hickok's struck Tutt through the heart from about 75 yards (69 m) away. Tutt called out, "Boys, I'm killed", before he collapsed and died
I do not have words for how much the old west touches my soul. It's very interesting. Red Dead 2 hit me so deep it was similar to Christ coming into my life. Except more exhilirating. Finding God was more peaceful. Such a strange phenomena
My biggest complaint weaponwise is Rockstar making their Navy revolver look like a cap and ball (which could take at least 6+ minutes to reload) and making it more accurate and powerful than the Cattleman revolver. I like the Cattleman and I like the Navy revolver, but at least make the Navy a Conversion model with conversion art. The Colt Navy conversion was a powerful and accurate sidearm...still can't see why they did cap and ball artwork on it. (And they really, really need to put a Remington in there...rugged, accurate, powerful and a lot more common than the LeMat. The LeMat was powerful but it was clunky, heavy, relatively slow and above all, it was rare compared to the other weapons available.)
14:07 That’s my hometown. Jesse James and his gang tried to rob the bank in 1876 and the locals took up arms and chased them out of town. We celebrate their defeat every September (weekend after Labor Day.)
I mean Rockstar aren't amateurs when it comes to this sort of thing, they more than did their homework in representing how the "Wild West" would have felt like and be visually represented in it's clothing, environment, buildings and more, it's a slice of the West in video game form.
With the proliferation of "dad games" (Powerwash Simulator, Truck Driver Simulator, Mowing Simulator, etc.), you should branch out and get some experts in those fields too.
I'll always respect RDR2 for making the protaganist die from a progressively worsening disease, and not some epic heroic last stand. It made Arthur's death so much sadder to me and I'll always remember it.
What Arthur does with the carbine is so off. Its like he has a separate tube, and is somehow pouring ammo from that tube into the gun, before putting the original tube back in the gun. Lol.
Since Danny was breaking down RDR2 from other details aside from firearms, you'd think there would've been a segment regarding food and drinks that were common in this time period. Probably we could have a chef or food expert react to food depicted in this or other video games! I've been looking around the net for something like that, and it has yet to be done by anyone.
Would be interested in having him take a look at some of the more mundane objects in the game - camp and cooking equipment, horse tack, clothing, etc.
Yes, I want a 20 minute video of him reviewing Uncle's lumbago.
A walkthrough and evaluation of the kitchen setups you'll find in various homes. Would you know how to work a wood-burning stove?
This is awesome perspective. Thank you
