In this video, Brent narrates the history and timeline of the NHL and how it came to be. Most of the videos on this channel are opinion and discussion based, but we felt it was extremely important to the hockey community on UA-cam that we invest time into creating educational content where viewers can come to learn about certain hockey topics. We understand this video is a bit 'dry' compared to typical Post2Post content, but we also know it will help others learn more about this wonderful sport we all love! This is the first in a series of videos we plan to create. Next up is "The History of the Stanley Cup", and after that each team will have it's own "history of..." video, starting with the original six teams. A big thanks to my father, Brent, for creating the script and narrating this video. If you enjoyed it, make sure you give the video a thumbs up and thank him below!
Great video, very informative and your dad is a fantastic narrator. As a Brit who has long enjoyed hockey but has only just began watching the NHL on a regular basis this channel has helped boost my love for the sport. As I am sure it has for many other overseas fans.
Hi did you play and if so where? I started playing in 1973/4 got hooked right away when I was 19 carried on playing till I was 48 at various teams in the south but finished with streatham but just could, not take the knocks any more moved to Mallorca but still have my skates (Bauer supreme composites bought in the states 30 odd yrs ago) but fxxk I so miss the thrill ,pain the ups and downs of being part of the fastest team game that ever came into being
Wow I've been watching you guys for about a month now and it's insane to see how fast your channel is growing! I love everyone that is apart of the post2post team (especially Justin cause I'm a Penguins fan lol) and I hope you have great success in the future which I hope to see! Keep up the great work guys!
Excellent video. Thanks so much for sharing this. Of course, as a Houstonian, I loved the WHA (and Houston Aeros) coverage. But a few things of note were missed in the video, There were a couple of cities from the early days of the NHL that have been discussed as future locations. The Quebec Bulldogs were one of the original four teams along with the Canadiens, Wanderers and Toronto. The Hamilton Tigers (not to be confused with a prior CFL team or with the CFL Tiger-Cats of today) joined the NHL a short while later. While Quebec City enjoyed later success as the Nordiques of the WHA and later NHL, the Bulldogs were short lived. Hamilton was basically thrown out of the NHL and banned from having another team in the future because of the owners running away with the money, failing to pay players. There were a few US teams that were not mentioned, although they were part of pre-Original Six. These included the Pittsburgh Pirates of the 1920s (which first wore the black and gold colors now worn by all Pittsburgh teams), the New York and later Brooklyn Americans, (which wore very colorful red, white and blue jerseys), the Philadelphia Quakers and the St. Louis Eagles. All of these teams were very short lived, with the exception of the Americans, who played for close to 20 years basically in anonymity and without a title.
I have loved Hockey since I was a kid either from watching my dad play on his company team, to playing street Hockey with the other neighborhood kids to playing Hockey games ( Blades of steel on Nintendo or NHLPA Hockey '93 on my Sega) or getting a chance to go to see my home team the Edmonton Oilers when they played at Rexall Place (now at Roger's Place, Downtown Edmonton's Ice District).

One thing to quickly add, the NHL was having big trouble during WW2 and that's why certain teams such as the Maroons were abolished due to finacial issues, leaving just 6 teams.

As of the 2021-22 season, the NHL gains its 32nd franchise, the Seattle Kraken. Despite making its maiden NHL voyage in ‘21-22, Seattle has had a long history in ice hockey as an overall sport with several teams in various minor hockey leagues over time, notably the Seattle Totems of the WHL.

I'll be honest I was ecstatic when Atlanta got the Thrashers in the league and had become a big fan of the team When the Thrashers moved to Winnipeg and the newest incarnation of the Winnipeg Jets, I was really surprised and disappointed in the change stating, "That makes two NHL hockey teams that originally were based in Atlanta that moved to Canada"

Thank you Canada, hockey is the best sport ever, to me hockey is the greatest sport ever because it's the most entertaining sport, it's always going Non-Stop and then not to mention how everything is so physical, those real ass fights, shit I know no one forgets when Alex ovechkin got in a fight I think it was last year and knocked the guy out cold and that was after throwing like two punches that was freaking awesome that guy is just good at everything when it comes to being on that ice and even though I'm not a Washington capital fan I'm at Alex ovechkin fan and I was so very happy to see him win the Stanley cup, he is one of those players that would give up his own money to get better players and build that team up so he and his fellow teammates could win that cup I never seen anybody that wanted that cup more than anything in the world. I mean come on his reaction when he won it says everything, I don't know about you but I've never seen anybody react like that when they just won the cup and not to mention how many years it took for him to win it when he was the greatest player on the ice, and if not the greatest of all time. Knowing how much winning the Stanley cup meant to him then going through all those years of disappointment no matter what he stuck by the organization all the coaches and everybody else. I could tell he was a man of faith, he had faith that it was going to happen eventually. I mean he wasn't no LeBron James that left the team he started with just to go win a championship with the Heat and not just one but two champions and then come back to Cleveland and hope to win one, and lucky enough he did, to me that was messed up. With him not going nowhere with Cleveland in the beginning everybody was talking saying he couldn't win it and it got to him so he left Cleveland went to Miami one a couple and came back but I tell you what without him winning that one with Miami I don't think he would have had the confidence and mainly the faith to win one in his hometown, you just stuck with his ability to play basketball with no faith and patience but when it comes to Alex ovechkin he stuck with his faith patience and loyalty and that alone will give you even more confidence than he already had. I guarantee Alex ovechkin feels so good that he won a championship with the team he started with and is staying with until he retires, unlike what LeBron James did, I think LeBron was just after the money and wanting to have multiple championships like Michael Jordan did, Even though no one will ever win as many as Michael Jordan did, I don't think it was about the loyalty of the game it was the loyalty of himself basically him trying to be better than any other player that was considered the greatest. For your info LeBron James you'll never match up to Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant. Just like Alex ovechkin Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant played the game because they were loyal to it as well as having faith and being patient.RIP Kobe Bryant

I know you don’t upload on this channel anymore and I don’t expect that you will give a good explanation but why would the Winnipeg Jets move and then 15 years later they would return?
Funny I have complete trading card collections from many of these years these Expansion teams were in and there's no cards for them. Almost like they existed but only on paper as some fo the teams I can't ever recall seeing in a game.
First there was the dispersal draft for the San Jose Sharks allowing them to take 14 field players and 2 goalies from the North Stars (this included players assigned to the minor IHL league affiliate Kalamazoo Wings) , then picking up any unsigned North Stars pick (excluding 1990 picks) and 3 additional players signed in May-June of 1990. Then there was the expansion draft involving both the Sharks and North Stars (who had to fill the void left from the dispersal draft). Both teams took turns with each team receiving 10 additional players
it was a little confusing with mentions of things happening twice, if you were to do something like this again i would only mention it when it happens chronologically, i hope this helps, that is my only complaint for this otherwise great video.
You forgot that the Blues were going to move to Saskatoon in the 90s they even started making jerseys and it was going to be the Saskatoon Blues but it they never moved😫😫 I always wanted Saskatoon to have a NHL team
I been a 🏒 N.Y. Rangers fan sence I was 5 🏒, I was a fan then , & still a fan now. I've seen a lot disappointments seasons. I believe it will be N.Y. Rangers season 🏒. Let's go N.Y. Rangers!
You got the 1917 NHL logo wrong (no affence since you got mad at me for not looking at the comments when u said what’s that in the rafters) it was yellow
+AidenBK2007 /UGANDA KNUCKLES the logo at the 1917 portion of the video was never supposed to be the logo they used in 1917. It was only intended to look different than the current NHL logo.

Everyone, there's a 10 part documentary on UA-cam called "Hockey: A People's History" if you enjoyed this, you'll enjoy that series.
This is really cool, I hope the each teams will be as cool?
Thank you. I really enjoyed that.
Live long Hockey, may this sport never die
Great video

Not a big fan of him, but would appreciate a video like this of Wayne Gretzky

All I have to say is John Scott...

nice video and WPG JETS LORD STANLEY NEXT YEAR
I'm related to Gaston Gingras!
I know you don’t upload on this channel anymore and I don’t expect that you will give a good explanation but why would the Winnipeg Jets move and then 15 years later they would return?
Houghton Michigan is the birthplace of professional hockey. It started as leagues of copper miners playing each other
here before this goes viral
I think Carol Vadnais played in 84 and he played for Montreal in the 66-67 season
American Hockey sure is an incredible sport
Funny I have complete trading card collections from many of these years these Expansion teams were in and there's no cards for them. Almost like they existed but only on paper as some fo the teams I can't ever recall seeing in a game.
Gosh this makes me wonder, when will there ever be a few more teams, going up to 40.
God I love this video
How did the Minnesota North Stars get the 1991-92 Expansion Draft Picks ? They send half of those draft picks to San Jose Sharks !

Why were the Ottawa senators not part of the “original 7”
because it wasnt secsessfull
Gretzky did not win the scoring title in his first NHL season, Marcel Dionne won because he had more goals than Wayne.
Why did he not mention in 1928the rangers were the first American team to win the Stanley cup.
You got the 1917 NHL logo wrong (no affence since you got mad at me for not looking at the comments when u said what’s that in the rafters) it was yellow
