    Idea for the Recon Company: since the only generic units that have Heavy are Cataphractii, Breachers, and Leviathans, there's not actually anything stopping you taking armour for your recon company. Indeed, you can actually infiltrate Rhinos if they're the dedicated transport for an Infiltrating unit. So you could take a mechanised recon company, with most or all of your units in Rhinos, forward-deploying and pushing up. Take Predator squadrons, HSSes and Deredeos for your Heavy Support, Arcus squadrons, bikes, and speeders for your fast attack, and you've got a fast-moving, hard-hitting recon force with a surprising amount of boom while still being very thematic. This one's good for Iron Hands and/or Iron Warriors, who want to have a lot of big guns. White Scars also obviously like this one due to their speed boost.
    The Imperial Fists also like the Recon Company because they can teleport their Cataphractii in via Deep Strike and potentially take Proteus Explorators to make that more reliable.

      Love it! Great idea. Put a bunch of camouflage and netting over those tanks, maybe some big antennae, and you're really cooking with gas.

      The only nitpick I can add to this is that Heavy Support Squads have the Heavy sub-type, as do Javelin Land Speeders. With that said, just like with the IF deep-striking cataphractii idea, don't discount units with the sub-type that can outflank or deep strike. Destroyer Assault Squads and Javelins both make for decent units in this regard (albeit you ideally want to ensure the latter is kept at range once it's on the table).

    Surprised to not see Scars for Recon as the Seize the Initiative buff stacks with their legion trait, but besides that everything here checks out.

      True true. Though I just see first turn as being so less impactful when you can get access to Nightfighting on a 2+ if you need to. To counter, I suppose we'll see a lot of shooting armies designed to overcome nightfighting... the meta evolves!!!

      I’m building my Scars to do Recon or Mazan Sagyr. (marines with chain bayonet bolters can be either tacticals or Recon squads) With Recon you are almost guaranteed to go first (as long as the dice gods don’t hate you). It’s also really fluffy as Scars started as the recon legion for the crusade.

      Recon Company really works well with an exclusively Corvidae list as well. Precision Strike may not come often on the units that don't normally have it, but it's damn effective when it comes into play. Plus, it's pretty thematic to include the Master of the Corvidae Cult himself, Azhek Arhiman.

    • @FlourEater
      @FlourEater 2 роки тому

      @@liammorgan1413 it's even more thematic to have Amon leading them, as he leads the Order of the Blind! I am thinking Recon company painting and pinning targets, while Ahriman with tac squads and terminators eliminating the enemy.

    Legion Recon would be fantastic for Thousand Sons as an Allied Detachment. Amon is a points efficient Master of the Legion to use as the HQ, can be quite monstrous in melee, and with Telepathy can be effective at pinning from the get go. Scout snipers are quite thematic to the Legion, Seekers are also quite strong at picking off enemy Librarians before the bulk of your force makes contact.

    On the topic of Fortifications not being permitted in most of the generic Rites of War, a lot of it comes down to the nature of that Rite of War. Hammerfall Bunkers from the Legacy Units PDF notwithstanding, Fortifications don't suit Rites of War built around a means of mobility like Recon Company, Angels' Wrath, Sky-Hunter Phalanx, or Armoured Spearhead. Likewise, they don't suit Rites of War dependent on alternative means of battlefield insertion like Drop Pod Assault or Underworld Assault either, with nothing to say of how much emphasis these Rites of War have on means of attacking an opponent instead of defense.
    If anything, their value is in siege armies (be it permitted by a legion-specific Rites of War or even no Rite of War at all - that is an option), and typically are only worth it as a narrative addition to the troops and vehicles you're already bringing to the table.

    • @blackbriargaming5483
      @blackbriargaming5483  2 роки тому

      Oh for sure, I was mostly being facetious. I'm not a huge fan of fortifications anyway. More marines is always a more interesting choice.
