Brought back a few memories of when my father and I would shoot rats in my grandfather's corn crib. It was the mid 1960's, so we didn't have the fancy set ups. We had a single shot, pump up, Sheridan pellet gun -- and we just held a flashlight to the side of the barrel.. I got used to seeing the "helicopter tail" at an early age.

I like how you are waiting for the sure kill shots, rather than just tearing them up, even though they're just rats. I'm all for killing them, but killing them solidly like you do it. I enjoyed this, I still have my Sheridan .20 caliber. There's some epoxy and pipe clamps involved, because I couldn't get parts, but it still shoots fairly true.

In the mid 1970's, I lived in an apartment in Detroit where a grocery store/fresh meat store was next door. The owner's home was located behind his store.
The owner was delinquent in paying his city property taxes. He was so far behind, he decided to just walk away and abandoned his entire property. The electricity, gas, and water was shut off. Fresh sides of beef and pork was left hanging in the open walk in cooler. Everything that the store stocked on shelves and in the meat display counter was left where it was. Naturally, rat's and mice found a loaded buffet. It was not unusual to see rat's running around all over the block - especially in the alley. One day I called a friend, and asked him if he wanted to go hunting? I owned 2
22 caliber rifles and wanted to smoke some rat's that were seen coming out from the rear of the abandoned store and empty house. My friend and I were outside behind the my apartment building with loaded guns in our hands in broad daylight - shooting the roaming rats. Crusing Detroit Police officers pulled into the alley, and saw two guy's with rifles in their hands. Without even getting out of their cop car, they rode up beside us and asked what we were doing? Casually we told them that we were murdering rat's. The cop behind the wheel smiled and told us to continue to have fun. They drove away as we were pulling the trigger on a few open standing vermin victims. How cool was that? Police officers being called about two guy's standing outside in the daylight with guns, hearing gunshots as they were approaching the area, and never exited their vehicle or pulled our their guns at us. We felt that the cop's just thought it was another day in Detroit. Viewing two guy's with loaded rifles in the street's in broad daylight was nothing to worry about.

Now when you talk about shady higher taxes involving gas taxes at the pump - now we got a conversation that's on the same page.
