Sometimes you break in to Lance's TOYota and steal his fly ideas. Other times he shares cool concepts with you. In this case, he turned us on to this color dubbing and this style of fly. Solid work Lance... In recent months we have fished several diverse trout fisheries with everything from brook trout, splake, rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, and tiger trout. The thing they all have in common is that they can't get enough of this fly. It's so simple that it's basically a crime not to have a few in your stillwater boxes. We fish it mostly on a long leader and a midge tip setup, but why would you read a description about how well it fishes when you could just watch a video.

I hit the 99 Cents store and bought 4 foot boa’s in red purple white and black all marabou feathers. About half sucky/not so good the other half is awesome. Each one them was $1.25!!!!!!
Just tied up some of these the other day adding two strands of Krystal Flash in rainbow along each side of the marabou. Fished a local lake the next day and caught 2 16" Brookies, 4 20" rainbows and one 27" Bull Trout! Dynamite pattern. Thank you.

Laugh if you will, but my dog attacked one of my black hens today. The hen survived minus a bunch of natural black down feathers - chickaboo! It will take two or three of this substitute, but as soon as my blackr/red Diamond Dub arrives, I'll be tying some of these. Thanks for the inspiration.

You guys are currently out of the Hanak hooks in a size 8, what other jig hook would you recommend?
Tyler Larson we ran out of most of the stuff for this fly rather quickly. More coming this week. Try the Hanak 480 for now.

Can you fish this under an indicator?
Yes. I've personally been fishing a similar version of this fly but with Simi seal dubbing under a indicator instead of a balanced leech... has a lot better jigging action with the wind blowing.
