Hi Everyone and Welcome Back to My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing tutorial.
Hello! This wrap dress is a success. Finally. I have a pattern that doesn't flash too much thigh or come unwrapped! I have modified the pattern to make a shorter skirt with a longer ruffle. I have also used stretch lace to make the sleeves and ruffle. That along with a vibrant floral print make this one interesting dress!
Hope you like it!
~Marie

You have the most gorgeous fabrics! And each fabric flatters your auburn hair!!! I am amazed at how DIFFERENT ❤the fabrics are-but most fabrics are really high quality. No junk on this show!!!
Thank you so much!
Marie that is a beautiful fabric. Your dress is going to be fabulous.
What a fun dress!!!
You do much more justice to that beautiful dress than your mannequin does. I admire your artistic interpretation of fabric and patterns.
Nice job. The bust ended up fitting just fine without the darts!
Love the dress and no leggings required!
Love that buttonhole trick, very cute dress.
That make was very relaxing to watch. Picked up some great tips along the way. I love wrap dresses and shirts.
The"gypsy dress" was outstanding and I think you looked great in it. I've been sewing for 60 years and I still learn something from you. Thanks
I just wanted to thank you. I've learned more about sewing and especially adjusting patterns in the few months of watching your videos than I've learned in the last 50 yrs of sewing.
Me too as well
What a beautiful dress I love it❤❤
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
I’m making 2 of these dresses for Christmas this year. One for me and one for my daughter! But with very different fabrics.
Omgosh it turned out awesome i love it
I am always amazed how you do such a good job with the machines you have. It shows that a person doesn’t have to spend a fortune on fancy sewing machines. The dress is fabulous as always and you are a fantastic teacher.
Im glad you mentioned changing the needle size. There were several "teaching moments" today that i hope new sewist appreciate!
this is a cool dress. I want to make it! I am glad you are doing a video!
Very fun dress. I would suggest using a tiny piece of white thread to mark dots on dark fabrics. Easy to see and remove when no longer needed.
This is a great look. I really like the fabric and lace. One of your best!
I love the way you change things around to suit your sewing style and your fashion style. The black with the floral is delicious.
Your fabric is gorgeous and the whole dress is beautiful! The color way really compliments your hair and skin tone. BTW, Good old fashioned tailor tacks work well for fabrics unsuitable for marking pens.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I'm new to sewing and this was incredibly helpful. ❤
Adore this !!! I just added a new project to my list... fantastic technique adjusting on the fly... may all our gypsies hearts happy dance in the sun... thank you !!!😊
What a lovely, breezy, colorful dress. Great video. Thanks.
I have enjoyed watching your videos! I was taught to use "taylor tacks" for the circle dots. This might help you with future "busy" fabrics.
You are such a great teacher.I have learned so much from watching your videos. Please do more tops and pants.
Wow! Just wow! So bold yet so feminine. The dress looks great on you.
You’re the first person I’ve seen, who’s also made this dress! I was going to make it to go to a summer wedding with the theme of English country garden. I made a toile of View A, largely because I didn’t have enough fabric to make the version with the frills in the big picture, which was what I wanted for the wedding. In the end, I decided I didn’t love it enough to make it for the wedding, but I did go ahead and finish it, and it’s definitely wearable. That hem drove me crazy with all the petticoat corners, and I ended up doing it three times! I think I need to try it on again and put a hook and eye on the bodice because it feels like it’s gaping a bit. I’m probably going to try and wear it in the winter with tights and boots and a black crewneck sweater underneath it. I have a feeling I might prefer it that way. I love your version much more than I love mine and I think I’d have got a better fit if I’d seen your video first, though we were actually making them at the same time. Thanks for another great video, I’m binge watching at the moment!
Very cute❤
that's gorgeous i like the way you confirm pattern to your own style
Marie, this dress is so cute! I love the lace and the colored buttons and the fit of this dress. Awesome job❤😊👗🪡🧵
It is unusual. At first I wasn't sure, but it looks great on you! I like it!
It looks great on you.
I like it, look like fun!!!!!
You always throw us a unique idea! It is so lovely and I guess a little Boho! Looking fabulous for a shop hop, enjoy
Beautiful, thanks for sharing.
Love, love , love the dress! You look beautiful in it! As always, I appreciate your process and creativity! And the buttons are perfect. ❤
I love it! I wasn’t sure about the lace but it looks fantastic! We’ll done! ❤️❤️❤️
That cotton fabric is so bold. I love it!
I’ve never seen a gathering foot like that one. I’ve seen that technique before, just not the foot. That was a fantastic way to get all that lace gathered.
I wasn’t sure about the lace sleeves, but it looks fabulous. Good job!
I absolutely adore that fabric!
She's magnificent! 🤩
Love the way the dress came out you do such a good job I've learned so much just by watching
You're so inspirational Marie, and I love the gathering technique you used for the long ruffle. I'm getting a Frida Kahlo from your fabric. ❤
I love the dress! The buttons are so fun and the skirt with the lace is amazing. This has been a great journey
It's gorgeous. Great material. Love it a lot ❤
It's gorgeous!!! Love it!!
Thank you! Dance!
you go my little gypsy
I prefer View A, I think. The center ruffle seems too much to me. I also like the cleaner lines without the lower ruffle since it’s got a handkerchief type hem anyway. 😂 Had to finish watching later. Your take on this pattern came together quite well🙌🎊 I agree that a set of pockets could be very handy. Might want to tuck some cash in one of those for the outdoor market jaunt.😉
This is so cute! I love it!❤
The fabric print is so cool! You look great in this dress style with your " red" hair. ❤ Lace is gorgeous. I remember you saying the dress took 7yds . With altering how much of a difference did you save approximately? My Fabricland is moving so had to pop in 😂 . I picked up 2 vintage style Buttericks as I've been wanting to try. I don't remember them having Simplicity. Will check my Lens Mills .🇨🇦🤗
Hello! I think I ended up using about 4 years of the cotton fabric and I have no idea how much of the lace... so glad you liked it 😊
Hi Marie! I just heard about your channel from Donna.
She recommended you because you do tutorials. I want to learn how to line a dress or line a top or line a skirt. I think whining a skirt might be the easiest to start with. So do you have a video you can recommend to me here of yours to start with?
Oh that was sweet of her 😁 as far as lining, it really depends on the style that you are sewing, the method that I would use to line it. I will link a recent video where I mind a sheath dress, which is a pretty easy method, and one that you can adapt to skirts and tops hopefully. Hope this helps. ua-cam.com/video/Mc9msMeomaY/v-deo.html
Enjoyed my Friday mourning with you. Now you need a gypsy wagon and bangles, and on to the county fair. You always look beautiful in the fun fabric. I have looked at wawak for the foot you used with the heavy top stitching thread to gather fabric and I don’t see it as a choice. Is it still available as I don’t like the gathering method of two rows of basting stitches ?
Thanks! Look up "cording foot" for your machine. That might help. 😊
❤
How did you work the corners of the ruffle to attach it to the dress?
I’m having difficulties with the ruffle in the corners.
I can't remember exactly, but I would probably stop at the point where there is 5/8" before the edge, Leave the needle down, turn everything and then head back up the other side. I hope that made sense.
