Cedar Point Memories, examines the 125-year history of America’s oldest regularly operating amusement park through interviews, photographs, and rare film footage. The program traces the development of Cedar Point from its beginnings as the Great Lakes’ preeminent bathing sport to its status as America’s largest ride park and the one with the greatest number of roller coasters.
It all began in 1870 when bathhouse facilities were built on a strip of Sandusky beach on Lake Erie. The area was named Cedar Point for the groves of cedar trees that once outlined the peninsula. The resort continued to grow with the construction of the Grand Pavilion in 1888, which had bowling alleys, a dining room, beer garden, dance floor and musical and dramatic performances including the top names from the “big band” era. The hour-long documentary looks at how the park has evolved and has been a source of family fun and memories even during wars and the Great Depression.
Cedar Point Memories weaves visual elements with personal recollections of former workers and visitors to create a true sense of the park in its early years.
Cedar Point Memories is distributed nationally by American Program Service and is underwritten by Johnson & Higgins of Ohio, Inc. and Society National Bank, a KeyCorp Bank.
Produced by WBGU-TV, Bowling Green State University.

It was a joy and a privilege to be asked to participate in this wonderful documentary. What an honor to share the memories of one of my favorite places on the planet!

I’m so glad these were made. Going there growing up, I had no knowledge of the history. Now it’s my favorite.

Thank you for uploading this. I remember being a young child and watching this on pbs. The Eden Musee portion has always been stuck with me.

I live in new York, and growing up our big summer trip was a weekend at CP, and I've always loved the history. I love the documentaries that have been made. There's also a great book called The Queen of American Watering Places.

Every neighborhood in Pittsburgh had an Isaly's! Isaly's was founded in Mansfield, OH but eventually ended up being headquartered in Pittsburgh. The famous Isaly ice cream bar was of course the Klondike! The Isaly's name still exists on some deli meats and even Ice cream sold in Western PA and Eastern OH. Sadly the "Klondike", while still sold (nationwide) is no longer under the Isaly's brand. It's now owned by Unilever (Ben & Jerry's is also owned by Unilever).

Pittsburgh's Kennywood Park still has "Noah's Ark". I think it's the last of its kind. It's been updated over the decades, but it retains the "Fun House" concept. Kennywood, West View Park, Conneaut Lake Park, (PA) Cedar Point, Geauga Lake (OH). all were a major part of my childhood. Still love Cedar Point and Kennywood today (Even as an old man, Ya can't keep me off of the coasters!)

I love the Blue Streak. It was my mom’s favorite and it instilled in me a lifelong love of that ride.

@@ricklewis2068I like the blue streak too, way bumpier now 😂 but I try to get on at least once a season. However my time stamps were for my grandma, she worked with the people who made the documentary, and she is in a few time stamps, I saved them.
