  • This is a first look at the unbelievable Dik Geurts Oval stove.
    These videos are a bit more Vlog/chat based, whilst we look at a new stove and look to see what is to come. If you have any questions or comments please drop them below, it's always good to hear from you!
    Today we're in my parents house, using their huge inglenook to check out one of the most special stoves I've ever seen!

    Holy mother of God! Do your parents own a castle?! Magnificent!!

      Honestly only a few years ago it looked very unimpressive. A rendered ugly building with a hideous, painted fireplace. I remember tearing the entire roof off myself after a hard day at work 😆. Once he had pealed all the years of paint, render and roofing designs, it did become a pretty building, but definitely took a bit of work.

    Absolutely love DG stoves, incredible stoves! And their ash scoops are fantastic 👍 great vid guys…as always

      Thanks. I’m also a fan of the ash scoop, initially I wasn’t, but I have been converted.

      @@TheTortoise 100%, wasn’t convinced until I used it. The zig zag one genuinely doesn’t drop a crumb of ash and holds so much as well. Cracking design well thought out, and that’s a trait you begin to appreciate the longer you love with any DG product. Marvellous stuff and a very clever bunch they are indeed! ❤

      Yea I agree. Really didn’t have me convinced, but it is genuinely effective.

    Fabulous 😍looking forward to seeing this. How is it that wooden legs & door handles are ok on woodburners given the 'distance to combustibles' regs? Also log stores? 🤔

      @TheTortoise  10 місяців тому +1

      Agreed here, definitely makes no sense, but I’m glad they did it, cause it looks so unique and special.

    I wonder if the legs have a steel core with hollow turned wood over it? Seems like quite an acute angle for those legs to not slowly bend under load?
    P.s when’s the Jotul f205 review coming? Been looking every few days thinking it must be next but it never is! You must have a massive stack of stoves in your garage waiting to go!
    Keep up the good work

      The legs are just wood actually, but seriously strong! No joke it doesn’t give you any indication that it’s struggling or wobbly. I literally think I could stand on top of the stove without any issue 😅

      😆 far from it. Only a few years ago it was a rendered ugly building, with the fireplace covered in paint. It’s just an old farmhouse.

    Beautiful stove! It seems like it would be better suited as a gas stove or vaporizing pot oil stove with yellow flame burner. It doesn’t have fire bricks and has to be made out of thin steel plate to be light enough for wooden leg support or hang mounting. A good wood fire will probably warp the metal….

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  10 місяців тому

      No actually it couldn’t be further from this. The entire interior is incased in firebricks (they’re just painted black so you can’t see them). It also weighs a hell of a lot!!!
      Those legs look like oak, and are incredibly strong.

      Yes I looked at the video again and saw that. My bad!

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  10 місяців тому

      No worries at all. I know what you mean, I thought it was weird too, until I removed the bricks and saw it was just paint.

      Does it have secondary burn air tubes or catalyst for low particulate emissions and extended burn times?

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  10 місяців тому

      No catalyst, but yes to secondary and tertiary air/burns.

    the style reminds me of an old television from the 1960s

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  10 місяців тому

      It is very 60’s, 70’s, but I still quite like it. It’s very much a modern interpretation of a 70’s style.

    I wonder when they originally installed that stone fireplace that centuries later there would be a bloke reviewing a mad Dutch stove called Dik Guerts in it and another bloke watching hundreds of miles away on his phone.😂😂

    • @TheTortoise

      😆 even weirder to think what might happen in another century.

    I have a Dik Guerts (square fire box), which I love, but this one…looks like a washing machine 😳 No, not for me, sorry 🤨

    I don't like it and who painted behind the fireplace they left a massive patch at the bottom

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  10 місяців тому +1

      Yea, their usual stove is very large and completely hid the back of the fireplace. I didn’t mind it, because it’s part of the character of the old fireplace.

    not keen on the legs it would look amazing if it looked as if it was just floating. maybe on chains

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  10 місяців тому

      They do a double sided version, a version that bolts to the wall, suspended from the ceiling and some bench bases too. I chose the legs mostly because it was so different to anything else.

    i wish these so called high end stove people , would give you fire rope glue for when it falls off , and some plasters for your arm when you cut it on the jagged door lock mechanism . :) , i need fire rope glue ,and a glass scrubber , and a temp gauge with a tortoise on , that i will purchase from your fine store , but im here to wish you two tortoises , a Happy New Year . PS what is more than 1 Tortoise ? , pride , swarm , gaggle , flock , soon to be ashtrays ? , i refuse to Google , :)
