Starting a creative habit

- Rotting season is over so let's switch to the other side of the screen. I'll be living my teenage dreams out on UA-cam from now on. Finding some old drawings motivated me to start a creative habit. Here's how I'll do it.
I feel so much what you mean when you talk about why not creating: somehow and somewhere I lost the ability to play and do things just because they are enjoyable. Nowadays everything needs to have a purpose, has to be posted or monetized. Life gets really boring and grey that way. Thank you for sharing an inspiration ❤
Glad to hear it resonated with you and I hope you start playing again soon! Thank you for your comment 🥰
Sorry for chiming into the conversation here! I just recently had the same realization! I work as an artist so most of the work I do has to be for a consumer, it has to be effective and „right“. I realized I needed to change something about my personal art to get an actual creative outlet, so I started this process of „painting what comes to mind“. When I draw I start with a blank page and I put *everything* that I think about on the page.
Some random numbers? Put it there. A sad face on top of a bookshelf? Put it there. A beautiful sunset that you overpaint halfway with pitch black? Put it there. Some little poem or rambles or your shopping list for that day. Put it there. It has helped me tremendously in reconnecting with the purest form of art and creating and really developing a personal style and connection to my art again!
All the best to you on your journey as well! ❤
@@Mienarrr Oh, this sounds cool - it gives one the opportunity to create and not overthink it too much.Thank you for sharing :) Lately I realized that many people posting their sketch books and showing perfect images and master pieces. But a sketchbook is made for sketches and playing around. So i want to give myself permission to create a heavenly imperfect sketchbook ♥
@@eclectic.enterprise Totally! Its a real struggle. Especially with social media as well, where you dont just have to be an artist but also a videographer, graphic designer, and social media content creator to actually get noticed. Its all so overengineered, I dont like it at all if i am honest. I wish you good luck on your journey!!
"now that rotting season has come to the end!"subscribed. yes to creating> consuming.
HAHA!!! You made a video about me! I earned a BA in Studio Art and I quit creating art as soon as I graduated. That was 22 years ago. Now I am 44 years old and I want to teach myself to draw and paint so that I hopefully can be proficient at a fun skill/hobby for my retirement in 12 years. Maybe it can even be my side-hustle. I have enough supplies, but I don't create anything. (Granted, at the moment, I'm going through some life changes that keep me in "freeze" mode. But when those changes are complete, I will have the emotional space, time, and freedom to pursue things that make me feel happy and fulfilled.) Another reason I don't create, is because I don't enjoy the process when the results is sh!t. I know I have to practice for years in order to achieve a non-sh!t result, and I have to figure out how to make my brain enjoy doing that and to accept the fact that it will be years before I will be able to create something "good enough" to share with others.
"Failing is as much a part of the process as succeeding" 👉😎👉
Hello, I got your video from the algorithm, so I hope you get a lot of views soon! That idea of getting so struck in the result that you don’t enjoy the process is something that I have been struggling too. Thank you for a new perspective. Great videography by the way
Such a sweet comment, really appreciate it. Thanks a lot for watching!
the cinematography in this was beautiful! the music was a great choice too. I’ll be coming back to this video when I need a creative boost. thank you for this! 🫶
So sweet, thank you 🙏🏽
One thing ive been struggling with rather recently is the feeling of regressing in art. I'm trying to learn how to draw characters (been at it for about 1.5 years) and I have made good progress! But I feel like from time to time it's almost like i've lost the ability to draw proportions or characters correctly. It's an unfortunate state of mind when you really want to practice, but your practice makes you feel worse about your skills.
Oh feel you! I’ve also had that from time to time. Especially because I used to be so much better at drawing a few years ago. Maybe try drawing things you know you’re really good at. It might help to balance it out a little so you don’t only see the stuff you can’t. Hope you find that joy again, but also know it sometimes takes a looong time to get really good at something
@@Dounyavd Oh I know, Art is one of those unfortunate things where you have be okay with sucking for so long to see the results you want, but that period of time you also see very little incremental changes over time so day to day it doesnt look like improvement, that's why I'm a firm believer in now throwing any drawings away. They remind you of how far you've come.
Crystal clear!
thank you for the creative inspiration, it’s always needed 😊
Thank you for sharing this beautifully made video!
Thankyou, I needed this ❤️
i don't think there was a single second from this video that wasn't highly relateable. thank you for making it and for inspiring me ❤
Thank you, so kind 🥰
Haha, very nice advices! Thank you
Yess!! ❤
so true!
Do it every day even a little then your brain starts craving the work.
well done video..
social media is a drain!
So true!
This video's content is so raw completely unfiltered and such relatable that I can't help myself from subscribing to your channel. Thanks for the wake up call.
Thanks for joining and the kind words 🙏🏽
Excellent advice. We all suffer from these issues, especially after getting an academic art education! 🙏🧡
Tell me about it! And thanks a lot 🫶🏽
Thank you so much for this great video. I really enjoyed it and I appreciate the encouragement in it as well. I agree with you wholeheartedly with the idea that we should create for ourselves and continue to do so to give our lives joy and a strong sense of purpose. Sometimes I get distracted and caught up in circumstances that temporarily stop my creative flow. But after seeing your beautiful and layered art in your sketchbooks and journals, you inspired me see that art is a journey for our souls, not just a way to make a living. I wish you much success with your own dual journey, with your art and on UA-cam! #muchappreciated
Thank you for your beautiful words and thoughts. So happy you got that out of the video. I wish you the best on your journey too 🌼
@@Dounyavd You're welcome:)
Great video!
This resonated with me so much! It’s so easy to get caught up in creating for an end goal - to have something to show for your work. But focusing on the journey and just playing is so much more enjoyable. And creativity should be about enjoying ourselves. Thank you for this! Just subscribed :)
Happy it resonated with you. Let’s play again like we used to. Thank you for sharing and the sub. Appreciate it!! 🫶🏽
right here in alignment with you! proud of you for taking the steps to create your channel and picking up some momentum 🌼

i'm in art school rn and lately with the academic stress i was questioning my creativity and while cleaning my space i found my childhood watercolor palette it looked so loved and used in comparison to my current more expensive one and that reminded me that this is not what this is about! i felt so much of what you've said in the video not just for art but for other crafts and hobbies i used to practice and i'm feeling so inspired and motivated thanks to you
Ohh it makes me so happy you rediscovered your passions again. I relate a lot to the little watercolor palette from childhood when we were just enjoying our hobbies. I wish you the best on your creative journey and thanks for passing by 🥰
I agree.I am also scared of creating things and I give up when I don't get the end results I desire.I am a youtuber and creating content is so difficult being a perfectionist but I feel like at the end of the day I should enjoy the process rather than end results.Thank you for this 🌸
Yess! Letting go of perfection is so important
🥰🥰🥰🥰

what is rotting season?
When we’re scrolling on our phones for a little too long and do nothing but rot 🥲
@@Dounyavd i thought as much- was wondering where that expression came from- i'm sure our ancestors used it around seasonal changes like winter to spring🤗
Awesome video Dounya, I think I’ve hit the stall without even realizing I was in it 🫠
awesome video!
