I've been playing for over 20 years and something I learned a long time ago is when learning a new technique, it's all about how you think about it. Stressing that swivel uses the ankles, sitting back on the throne, and thinking of it as "shaking off" the muscle tension is a very good way to think about the technique going in. I'm gonna get on the kit when I get home as I want to learn this over heel-toe. Thanks for this man.

@The Truth of the Matter how many double bass drummers started out knowing every little aspect of not only their pedals, but every pedal on the market? Stop being an elitist snob. Everyone has to start somewhere. Going by your assessment, teen age Dave Lombardo should never have played double bass drums in Slayer, Gene Hoglan should have never played double bass drums, George Kolias as well. I mean, how dare someone attempt to pick up drumming without knowing every lug, drum dial setting, cymbal tone , foot pedal, spring tension, beater type and weight, head, stick, stand or rack accessories available, right? Going with your rationale, there would never be a double bass drummer on the planet because they should have known every possible detail about drumming and equipment before they ever sat on the throne behind the kit. I'm so sure Joey Jordison, Alex Rüdinger, Derek Roddy, David Diepold, Pete Sandoval, Chris Adler, Steve Asheim, Flo Mournier, Ben Harclerode and the rest knew every possible aspect about drumming, techniques, and equipment before they ever sat down and played a single song. I'm sure no questions were ever asked and no trial and error occurred, they all just knew exactly what the dynamics of their pedals were and had them perfectly set without ever putting foot to board and played a single double stroke on their bass drums. I'm sure you started out knowing everything too, had no questions, didn't experiment to see what works best for your comfort level and muscle groups, you just set the pedals right out of the box and began playing at top level 🙄🙄🙄
      Clown 🤡

I'm not seeing how my Tama Iron Cobra double pedals are good for this as they don't have the long boards of the Kopyto pedals in this video. After months of practice with zero progress with this shit technique ( literally couldn't even achieve 80 BPM,using swivel foot, it got out of sync every time, for several months doing it for hours per practice session, doing NOTHING ELSE but trying to nail this so called technique, including setting my pedals up on a practice pad and just practicing with a metronome), I defaulted back to the Derek Roddy method of just using my whole leg and improving speed. He calls BS on swivel foot and heel toe techniques, and I agree with him. You can get the high speeds without bullshit techniques. As he said, there are no hacks or cheats. I can get 220 BPM using my whole leg, and can do it for prolonged periods. From my experience, swivel foot simply doesn't work at all for me. It only works if you start practicing it at age 4, and continue to force yourself to fail over and over until age 24. I don't have time for that much failure when I can reach my speed goals with a less flashy, more direct method
