- MPGomatic.com drops the hammer on a 2011 Honda Odyssey Touring minivan for a 0-60 MPH acceleration test. The Odyssey is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission.
The Odyssey's i-VTEC V6 produces 248 horsepower (HP) and 250 foot pounds of torque.
I just watched a video of a mini-van accelerating. Where am I going in my life....
This is probably the best sounding Honda engine! Also I love that 6 speed auto!

A BRZ hits 60 in the low 7's and its meant to be a sports car. This does it in 8 and its a van. Pretty quick for a van..

It’s a sports car but it’s really way too slow and underpowered. They should’ve either turbo or supercharged it, or put in a flat 6.
Honda’s J35 is a very strong engine indeed.
The Odyssey is one of the fastest minivans out there.
I agree the ody is one of the fastest and has best fuel econ.
Directing the explosivity of gasoline/ethanol through mechanical parts, to the back wheels is a complex mathematical process. The electrical motor, when finally made affordable, will be much faster. The insidious nature of electrons/protons, etc. will allow much greater range as well. I see a future with 6 pass. Vespa electric scooters with 900 hp.

I would have to say for a 5,000lb + Mini-van 8.0 seconds is not bad.

@Ryantravisaol exactly, if you ever have the opportunity, drive one. The first time i drove my parents odyssey, i thought, what a crappy car, until i found a road to floor it. Its one of those cars, a smile creeps up on your face, not just because you're going fast, but the experience in a van, combined with sound of vtec, that is special.

if u put a intake ( sri or cai ) on any honda v6 motor it will make it sound so much better. 0-60 was about 8 sec

What modern car company doesn't have some form of variable valve timing (VTEC)? I once had a 1991 Nissan Maxima that had variable valve timing. Seems that Honda just marketed theirs so everyone would think they stumbled upon something wondrous, FIRST. They didn't. Variable valve timing is SO OLD that steam engines had a form of it. This is not new or amazing technology, guys. Check this out. Pick any car that you HATE and Google if it has variable valve timing.

Minivans aren't about racing. I'd rather have this. 8 secs is still impressive, who cares if the Toyota is 0.2 secs quicker... this gets 19/28 compared to 18/24 in the Toyota.

@Roadrash1991 It doesnt matter what I have in my username. And those Seinnas the spun their wheels had the traction control turned off. The Seinna 3.5 is faster then the Odyssey 3.5 anyway.

i know i bought one...my neighbor has a odyssey we raced one day..from a dead stop beat him 3 times..both vans were 2011..wasnt really even close...

Lol, my mom bought one 4 weeks ago. It already has 5200 miles lol. We had an 04 and it was way faster than than our 2011, really. The 2011 is way better on gas tho (we get over 25 MPG often) no less than 470 miles each tank of gas and the most we ever got was 518 miles all highway. We all love it. My dad went on a rant about how much the new sienna sucks compared to the odyssey, lol.

An Odyssey with VTEC? That's like a Grand Caravan with an SRT8 engine. Dodge should so totally put an SRT8 in their next Grand Caravan to compete with this.
They already have an R/T Grand Caravan, should be enough to go against a VTEC Odyssey.

@hondaftw1234 No, its not fun to drive. It rattles, it has a bad ride, the interior is dull, the seats arent that comfotable. Just to let you know, my 4runner is more fun to drive... and it has slow boosted power steering, solid axel on leaf with front torsion bar hi-trac independent... And Honda just recalled around a million cars for tranni problems, ours included.

@xoquixxoqafxo You have to think about your original statement this way, The faster a mini-van is empty, the better it will be with 8 people, a dog, and a trunk full of stuff. And Honda made an un-relistic claim with 28 highway. One of my friend's mom has one (2011) and she cant get over 22 highway. And the odyssey is hideous and it uses Honda's new found 'lack of Quality, just like Toyota' system
I know it's like 8 years too late but...that engine / transmission gets pretty impressive fuel economy on the highway. maybe the roads are really coarse or mountainous where you live or she drives at 80mph with a pulsing throttle style. I usually get around 32mpg avg on the highway in my 2014 6 speed. You just kick it back into
@talldude123 You know, Ive delt with the bad interior quality in my mom's old 1998 Ford windstar before, and I deal with the bad quality in my sister's 02 civic and my dads 06 Accord currently. Only our two Toyota's have study feeling, quality interiors.
VTEC isn't some magical force, in fact, its outdated compared to many VVT type setups used. Unless of course you are trying to be funny... because you are terrible at that too.

@toyota4life94 That's funny coming from somebody who drives the Black&Decker of the automotive world. Toyota is every bit as boring as Honda these days. The only somewhat exciting thing to come out Toyota recently is the FT-86, which was sadly given to that tool name plate called Scion under the FR-S. Of course they have the LFA but you'll never own one. Honda also had it's NSX, CRX, Civic Si, S2000, Integra ect... Now they just have the Wonder Bread Si. You guys are both tools.
@toyota4life94 The new 4runner sucks on road with its clumsy handling and bumpy road bro. Great offroad but most NEVER go offroad and thats why sales of it are failing. Lets forget about the boring interior and it s quality issues, lets forget I even mentioned it. The 4runner is still overpriced for what it is and isnt as good as most in the class. What still makes you love it? Because its a Toyota? THats not reasonable. I hate the insight, 2012 civic, The RL is behind the times and other hondas
The US version of the Odyssey looks fat and bulky. I still prefer the JDM(RA1) version thou.

@Motorfordtoyota The sienna doesnt even have a responsive pedal so the odyssey will feel faster. Does it matter anyway. Minivans arent meant for speed and if it was, Honda sure would take first place at that. Toyota=boring

my sister has a 2011 sienna and the steering is so numb, i rather get the odyssey that has better steering and handling, and doens't have the toyota's cheap tinny hollow plasticky interior.

i prefer the toyota sienna its more spacious, more stylish, excellent material quality, very quick, very comfortable, quiet, awesome technology, and the only minivan with all wheel drive! now can honda beat that no! toyota has been selling great cars for years and they have been number one for years! who cares about the recalls and stuff! toyota is still one of the most reliable cars out there! thats why you see so many toyota's on the road not those ugly piece of shit hondas!
