- Halo has been around for some time and with Halo Infinite coming out later this year, we thought it would be a good idea to look at the UNWRITTEN RULES of Halo that have formed over the last 20 years.

When playing campaign, you MUST take the warthog into every building as far as the game will let you
There's some really stupid shit you can do with this, lol. A classic for sure.
when playing the halo reach campaign, you must take a forklift and do some stupid stuff with it, especially if you're playing co-op
You must also shoot ai allies

meanwhile me on AotCR drives a ghost into every possible location... (still trying to figure out if there's a way to make the ghost not phase through the floor in the elevators)
MCC really needs to bring back prelobby chat and vetoing. Some of the funniest moments I've had in gaming have been in those lobbies. Also made a lot of life long friends too

games like modern call of duty and mcc use a filter system to match everyone together, but map selection when all the players have been grouped up is limited to whichever playlists they've all got ticked off in their filter
if there's one guy in the team who only ticked swat and everyone else ticked everything, vetoing the map can only suggest another swat variant
for this same reason they disband lobbies and stuff super frequently, otherwise after a few games with the same people you'd notice that someone only wants to play CTF and Oddball or something and everyone will be stuck playing it
My rules for when to teabag:
1. If they teabaged you, you must teabag them back
2. If they really should have killed you, but you miraculously survived, you must teabag them
3. If they are camping, or generally being annoying, and you kill them, you must teabag them
I t bag when I’ve killed them like 6-7 times in a game, further proving my dominance

I have never booted someone who betrayed me on accident. But i have been booted for accidental betrayals
One guy on Standoff lasered me and started teabagging. I think he was rightfully booted. Don't like the map? Have some patience and etiquette, DBAA.
One time in my own custom castle wars map, my brother had the flag and used an alternative path. I marked the area before him with target designator so any enemy tries to follow will be incenerated. Some of my dumb teamates instead of protecting the flag carrier, they ran towards the enemy castle and got killed by orbital attack and straight up booted me and my brother out of of our own session of our own fing map!
One of the most iconic times in playing Halo 3 with one of my old friends happened due to being booted. We were playing Rockets in matchmaking on that one long bridge map I can never remember the name of. Middle of the game I'm kicked and notified a teammate booted me for betraying them. The first thing out of my mouth:
"We're playing with rockets! There's going to be splash damage!"

One time in reach I had a squad of marines with fuel rod guns... It was freaking great, they obliterated everything they saw in a matter of seconds...

I almost had an alliance in a match. I teabagged in front of the first guy I saw and he was cool, so he teabagged back. Soon we had the whole match peaceful and not trying to kill each other. All until one idiot broke the alliance and chaos erupted. We ended up losing the match.

To me that's happened on Grifball mostly and one very particular instance recently in CE doubles where it turned into a 1v1 when people quit, and I went friendly, so did the other guy and we ended up playing tic tac toe by shooting it on the wall. He won the match but I won the tic tac toe

@@mechmaster-so4hr Ngl in many matches where I see we have no chance of winning and I don't have any challenge or achievement I can get I like to try making allies with the enemy because it's more fun when that happens than to just play normally. Not everything in Halo has to be about killing right?
Last year I played a lot of btb on halo 3 and one late night I kept getting in matches with the same guy but we were always on opposite teams. We ended up working together most of the time killing the others team.
When the match starts, if you take the driver seat of a warthog and somebody gets on the turret, take a few seconds to drive around looking for a third teammate to take the passenger seat. Don’t just drive off, ESPECIALLY in CTF
I usually don’t only because it mostly winds up as an extra kill for the enemy due to a bad gunner
It's fine to go off with two if your goal is to circle a fortified position or such, you only need the 3rd person if there's power weapons in play or objectives
People in CTF don't know the passenger seat exists because I rarely ever see anyone stick around to hop in or pay any mind whatsoever to the honking warthog that's currently blowing their ear drums out trying to get them in.
I only do this if I have a good team and while playing CTF or other objective gametypes. Like the other guy said, it usually just becomes a free extra kill for the enemies.
If you're in the passenger seat in Slayer, drop yourself off in a good spot. Use the Warthog to push map control.

One rule I’ve always followed is if your near teammates while in a vehicle, out of danger, slow down so you don’t hit anyone, especially in reach where there is a health system.
Doubly so in CE, where a love tap means instant death.
If a teammate steals your assasination they deserve to be betrayed.

Teabaging in front of another player is definitely a greeting. The other week, I encountered Halo Canon purely by chance in a matchmade game of Firefight and once he recognised my gamer tag (from me commenting on his channel various times), he came over and teabaged in front of me in between rounds. Naturally, I returned the gesture.

In multiplayer, if you have the sniper riffle, you can not carry the sword too. You have to choose between one or the other.

Really just have one power weapon at once, you can’t have two.
One of my best memories was having one of the enemy team members on the back of my mongoose. We spent the whole match driving around and getting Spartan lasered by both teams.
Mine was having two of the enemy team in my Hog on Reach, they were killing my team and I was killing theirs. We had a good time
Climbing out of maps with the enemy team was also lots of fun

If two players are having an intense 1v1 with energy swords:
A) don't third party
B) don't be toxic and wait to kill the winner right after, let them taste the victory if they don't want to fight you right away
C) if the winner is your enemy and wants to 1v1 you right away you go and avenge your team mate
D) if either teabags you join them

In Sandtrap (H3): Don't talk to the driver of an Elephant. Which means don't kill the driver

If youre driving a hog and you have an excellent gunner, once they die, drive back to them and keep it going.
Oh my god I forgot about the veto option in halo 3. I loved being that one guy whose one vote was needed to switch the map and never doing it. Not necessarily because I liked the map, but just to make those kids screaming into the mic mad. I did it on MW2 as well, I think
On one lobby, there was this guy making empty threats to others if they dared to veto.
As soon as the voting round started, literally everyone vetoed. Law of reverse psychology, it was hilarious.
Important missed rule:
- If a teammate is on an insane multi-kill, don't snipe their kills. Assists only.
When you just turn on the console and start the game, you sing along with the chorus.

if someone gets to a vehicle or power weapon before you do, don't try to kill or damage them, just deal with it and move on
Unless you've been in a match with that player before and they go for the vehicle or power weapon even if they don't know how to use them.

@@mechmaster-so4hr I think that you should let them be. Halo usually isn't competitive (unless you are in a competitive game mode. I'd just ask them if I can get their weapon if I weren't confident about their ability), and the only way they can ever get better is if they get experience with the weapon.

I usually play more casual game types like BTB CtF, so it's not really a big problem, but I do always want to help with the main struggle my team is facing, like using the spartan laser on the enemy tank or sniping the flag carrier. So it's a little frustating when we lose because the flag carrier isn't sniped or other, similar reasons. And I can't just talk to my team because talking to strangers on the internet with my voice is weird (and because my mic never works). But like you said, people need practice and experience to improve with the weapons, so I should let that happen more often.

If you see 2 players dueling it out with swords, let them finish their 1v1 without interrupting.

To add to this, if you play a Swords only mode, you don't double team gang on someone. Sword duels are a holy thing not to be disturbed and if you do you have no sense of honor. Remember everyone, unless you go full competitive, honor before victory!

It’s not stealing a kill, it’s simply drawing the attention of the enemy spartan and making them feel overwhelmed so my teammate can get the final strike, besides in sword duels no one is guaranteed the kill considering most of the time it comes down to chance and ping.
When playing campaign with a first timer or a noob, share the power weapons and let them have some fun with power... Even if they use the last shot of a rocket launcher on a lone grunt...
I was the First Timer, I never got to have the same fun.

Dude a guy was betraying everyone on the team so I started betraying him back. Nothings wrong with that but he did it like 9 times and when I killed him the second time, I GOT BOOTED. I was so pissed. You can betray once by purpose or accident but please don’t ruin the game like this.

The thing with the flag. every time you drop the flag, you alert the entire enemy team where you and the flag are. As long as you're holding the flag, you are hidden and the enemy team has no idea where the flag is, so you can stealth your way to capture it. Stop giving your position away people
The only exception is when you're playing with top tier players. ONLY THEN does speed matter more then stealth. You won't be able to hide from them so rushing back matters
It is also incredibly helpful to have your weapon ready for any encounter that comes your way. The less time the flag is in your hands, the more bullets you can shoot.

Nobody wants to drive but drivers are usually more aware. Everybody wants to shoot but most shooters just spray randomly. And how is it that bomb and flag players never seem to understand that the passenger seat exists for a reason?
@@SlickAstley_TV Yeah, crazy how they always ignore vehicles. But then again, maybe they find them voulnerable. I was offering my Hog in the Infinite insider to a flag guy, but before he got in, we died and his time wasted for running to me killed him too.
@@SlickAstley_TV Also I find being the gunner more challenging and stressful: I need to know how to prioritise targets and not miss, which I always do, it's chaotic. I also can't turn too fast, my sensitivity is only 4 and I'm not a PC scum.

If someone on your team is spawn camping directly on the other team's spawn points and taking the fun out the game, team kill them. Even if it means getting kicked and temp banned.

When that happens on last resort and everyone's camped on the archway overlooking the beach, especially when the other team is horribly outnumbered, throw the power drain on them. You won't get booted for a betrayal, but no doubt it'll give the other team a really good chance to break out lol

If you are getting camped in a social game mode, and you kill the one who is camping you, and he JUST SO HAPPENS to be the game session leader, there is a 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% chance that you will receive this message on your screen: "You were (kicked/banned) from the game by [PLAYER NAME HERE] for improper behavior."

My rules on teabagging have always been: i wont initiate the teabag, but if an enemy kills me and teabags me, i will teabag them back (unless they got a really nice kill on me the first time, in which case, they deserve the teabag)

This isn't directly related, but I just remembered one time in 8th grade when my friends and I went into rumble pit (FFA matchmaking) back in the Halo 2 days and my friend got booted. To this day, we have no idea how he got booted from a free for all.

Hearing my childhood games being called "old" is really hitting hard
One match I'll never forget, none of us had mics. A buddy of mine & I ended up on separate teams so we met up but someone on his team saw us & killed him by accident. I started TB as a peace offering & he joined until my buddy respawned & we started a congo line. Someone from my team saw us & joined. One by one everyone in the match was just TB in the line around the map for 5 min until someone disconnected & the random killed us all with the rocket launcher. its was beautiful.
This should be shown to every new halo player. Save everyone so much pain
me and my cousin had a unwritten law for SWAT duo pistols game mode: one spartan facing 12 o'clock the other faces 6 o'clock, keep your eyes on the radar and call even the slightest thing... and don't forget to check your corners!

I've definitely used teabagging as a tactic on other players so when they tea bag me back it distracts them so my team mates can kill them.
I would love to see if other video games have unwritten rules like this. These minor, unspoken yet important things really make Halo multiplayer special; it can be super social even when you're playing to win.
I can only think one maybe it's just between my friends and I but while playing rocket League if you and another car are pushing against each other's fronts you don't let up and keep on the gas trying to push each other

I have anger issues. Especially when I'm getting stomped. Tea-bagging throws me over the edge, most of the time. I'm fine with it when two people are doing it to be friends and all, but if I'm dead and you start bagging me, I'm just gonna get mad. Plain and simply. It doesn't help that they're the ones who are always untouchable. It also doesn't help that I've inherited the "I can't take shit" like my dad had when he was younger.

I can relate 100%. Yesterday morning I was in a pretty intense SWAT 1v1, other guy gets like 3 kills in a row after I lost the lead and teabags me all 3 times. To top it off he threw in some punches and body shots. Naturally, I wasn't gonna take that. I lined up a few good headshots in a row to tie the game up and teabagged the shit out of him, then he left lmao.
Once I was playing CE and I accidentally killed this guy with a warthog. To apologize I brought him a sniper later.
Funny thing is that later that match he spawned right in front of my tank, which killed him instantly, and I'm positive he accidentally kicked me with the intention to just jump instead, since he kicked me before his death even fully registered

Not flag juggling also help to hide your route, I usually do a mix of both depending on the situation.
Also improves your combat readiness.
Reminded of that moment on Zealot where I flagpoled a guy juggling the flag because I WASN'T.

That yoink medal was something to be proud of when it was your cousins or brother you steal the kill from :P ...also the betrayal thing, my cousins, brother and i would betray each other and randomly boot someone one another (in halo 3 mostly) would boot us all sometimes. I don't mess with randoms, just family when they're on your team lol I also (at least for CoD) always mute the lobby now.
We also back in the 360 days we would play on 4 xbox's for the 4 of us. 1 on the living room tv, one on a portable monitor there, then 1 on the bedroom tv and final on another portable monitor lol Fun times, and each get a full screen haha.
I must watch every video of Rocket sloth, its part of the sacred rules.

6:32 I did the Endure MCC challenge on that map with a Looking for Group lobby on like the final day before the challenge was gone. That shit was one of the most chaotic and yet well coordinated games I have ever played and it was all with random people. I swear, it kept coming down to the wire more and more frequently and we were just barely making it through the waves and rounds towards the end. We used every life we were given and every life we used brought the tension, the desperation, and our drive higher and higher until it was almost always one or two people left and the last wave came down to like one of us left on the verge of death and no lives trying to finish the wave and allow us to finally end it.
I fondly remember Halo zombies beginning as an invite to a full custom game on Halo 2 before Halo 3 came out. Infection was't a gametype at the time, so we would play team deathmatch (red indicating human, green indicating zombie) with a set of explained rules to avoid getting kicked. Green team would start as one player with an energy sword, while the rest of the map was on red team. If you died, you would be prompted to change to green team. If you failed to comply, you were quickly displaced and your player slot was quickly filled.
I think I've broken every single one of these rules with people I have played with lol.
I enjoy camping as long as most of my time is spent moving around the map so I'm not toxic and I keep the enemy team guessing

7:51 Completely agree and when I get in a enemy hog as a gunner I'll pretend to shoot my own team for fun sometimes and see if the enemy player goes along with it.

Don’t rage quit just because you’re getting dunked on by a legit good team, you can say that they’re cheating all you want, but don’t rage quit.
Also if you want to get in a vehicle, like a banshee or one if the seats in a warthog, but someone else beats you to it, don’t shoot at them and throw Grenades at them, they raced you to it and they deserve it.
I've had teammates in MCC Desert Hog literally almost destroy the transport Falcon just because they wanted to fly. It's like "Dude wtf just get in."
The grenades thing was just instinctive for me lol. With loading screen cancelling, I remember when my youth group used to play Halo 4 every so often together on LAN, but one dude would always get to exactly zero, then perfectly cancel the loading sequence for multiple minutes on end. Eventually, we had a rule that you had to set your controller down and put both hands in the air when you did that more than twice
One match the enemy team all left but one dude. I felt bad for him as my teammates were not even giving him a chance. So I started driving a mongoose around to find him. In campaign during Warthog sequences, always, always, always give your passenger seat Marines a power weapon such as a sniper or fuel rod cannon.

Never actually thought about T-Bag before means greeting, despite doing it nowadays in different games. It totally does and I can’t believe I never thought about it specifically.
Also now that I’m on PC if I’m actually tbagging (teammates or otherwise) I more often shake my mouse around or if I know I’m safe I crank that DPI up and go crazy.
the top rule i can think of is don't go into party chat when playing match making.
it's highly rude when someone in game has a mic & you can't hear them because you just broken an unwritten rule.
that goes double triple quadruple if your coordinating because it can be very rude regardless of if it's the opposing team or not.
it's just makes it harder for teammates whom voice is set to team or even opponents that called you out for using unapproved controls or overly aggressive player styles like fat rat.

The elephant ramming was always the best back in the day on sandtrap. I remember many matches where players from each team who would all get on their respective elephants and then we would charge each other.
When playing the campaign and your friends off to get food or something, you are legally required to break their shields over and over till the return. Killing is a little over the line but the shields are fine
When playing as an elite and you meet an elite from the other team, you're legally obligated to be friends with them.
To help merge the enemy with a warthog honking, and enemy tea bagging as a greeting. If the enemy has chosen not to damage you in any way, and you've taken down his shields, wait for him to reply. He might be showing you something, giving you something, or meme gaming.
