Network Test One (aka Generator Defense) was a phenomenal 3v3 game type. The fact that it was removed from the final game was a tragedy. I'll never forget how good my 3 man squad was at that game. Pretty sure we went either undefeated or only suffered 1 or 2 losses over the course of the beta on that game mode, so possibly I was biased, but boy was it such a let down when it never came back.

Seriously though Halo MCC went from an absolute joke to literally my second favorite game of all time
Bungie made Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3 between 1999 and 2007.
343 took between 2014 and 2020 to fix MCC and you could argue that it's still in dire need of updates and needs features they cut out like map vetos.
When he said "Halo Betas" my ears pricked up and thought he was talking to me directly for a second :)

I remember playing Halo 5's beta and absolutely loving it, then the final game came out and everything just felt downgraded. Even small things like the sounds were worse. The BR in the beta sounded so powerful compared to the final version.
Dude this. I loved the beta, hit pro in playlists in it and was so hyped. Then at the final launch, I didn’t play the game for more than a week or two. Was a let down. Didn’t return until now for infinite.
As much as I hate how Halo 5 plays, I have to admit; the beta does look quite a lot better visually.
The lighting especially, Halo 5 has lighting that makes everything look like brightly colored plastic, but whike the beta wasn't perfect it definitely feels more grounded and closer to that of past entries in look.
I remember how absolutely pissed everyone was that you would have to buy Crackdown to play the H3 beta. I remember just about everyone saying that they would buy it just for the beta and sell it right away after it ended..... And then everyone played Crackdown and we all felt like idiots because it was an amazing game! 😆😆😆

The first Crackdown i remember was well received but Crackdown 3, the one that was bundled with the beta, was considered a textbook case of a game being downgraded into a steaming pile of crap
@@BigboiiTone mate you're wrong, Crackdown 3 came out just a few years ago and yes it was badly received. But Crackdown 1 was the one the Halo 3 beta was linked to. Kinda hard to link a game to a beta 10 years older.

Reach had an alternative invite sent out that allowed you to get in without ODST.
I actually had *both*. The invite beta would be downloaded to your device directly, where-as the ODST one would require you to load ODST first, and then the reach beta, which took significantly longer if you didn't also have ODST installed to the 360.
Additionally to your earlier comment at 13:50, IIRC it was pretty known that the open beta of Reach was a much older build, and was more for network testing than anything else. I had thought Bungie even acknowledged this at one point.

It certainly looked that way to me. Transport Hog actually usable for transport! That's why I'm excited about the Razorback - it's basically a Transport Hog but with even more functionality.

I loved the Reach Beta, and seriously think it was superior to the Reach we got. Not saying Reach is bad, still love the game, but there was something magical about Reach's beta with grenades having a yield of a nuke, the ability to parry the sword bare handed, and the roll into sticky grenade strat. Oh fun times.
The memories of playing Reach was so good!

Plus Invasion which imo is one of the best game types ever in halo. It really sucks that it doesn't exist anymore

In the reach Beta for Invasion, before the Spartans had an animation for evade, the game would occasionally glitch and start teams on the wrong sides, Spartans attacking and Elites defending, complete with the other team's weapons and abilities.
Since Spartans didn't have an evade animation, it looked like a team of Spartans skipping and prancing around the map. Good times.
Also: Generator Defense didn't make it, but if you looked at your player stats in the retail release there was a section for Generator Defense. So there's a section of your stats dedicated to a gametype that doesn't exist.
Generator defense exists in firefight.
The look of the h5 beta, it looked so good

did not expect to see my video on rocket slot when i woke up this morning. side note of my video and most others of halo online you showed were from Eldewrito, and running mods at that so you don’t really get a good grasp of what the game looked like. I do have some of the only actual videos of Halo Online’s official Alpha that was available in Russia (even if my videos suck) :)
I remember playing custom games in the Halo 3 Beta. We maxed out movement speed and we were able to splatter each other. Spartan Splatter. The forgotten gametype.

Being an MCC Insider and later Halo Insider was an amazing experience and I was lucky enough to join the program very close to its beginnings. The number of interesting surveys and testing we did was awesome and I look forward to continue this going into Halo Infinite.

Nothing in gaming has ever been more hype than buying crackdown and loading up Valhalla for the first time.
Kind of cool that Icebox started out as something from Halo Online and is now getting flighted for MCC S8.

Played the halo 3 and reach betas, my 360 got the red ring of death in my second invasion match though 🙁 did get to play the infinite flight though! Can’t wait for the next one 🤘

Man I remember being a kid and getting into the Reach beta. It was my first proper Halo game that I could play on my own, since I was only able to play Halo 3 at my friends house because my dad had a PS3, but when I finally got a 360, I was so hype.

The Halo Reach beta was so awesome. Me and my Friend got up at like 5am every school day to get a few hours in before having to go to school.
The halo2 interface is so legit they modeled xbox live after it. My, God… looking at the menus like that makes me feel like im both time traveling and visiting a once bustling metropolis or city square. 😞 Halo2 lobbies how i miss you, felt like the homies i met on there were actually brothers in arms.

I remember when halo online was leaked and translated into english. I played it and it was certainly an interesting experience. At the time it was a very big thing in the pc community to finally get a new halo game for the platform, which afterwards many people felt microsoft noticed and planned dropping a halo game to pc eventuslly
I remember after Microsoft shut down Eldewrito they said that many modders who worked on Eldewrito would be given jobs to work on what would eventually be MCC PC. To my knowledge that never really happened and MCC PC still misses so many features that Eldewrito had.

My favorite glitch in the Halo Reach beta was in the generator defense mode. In that mode you had access to night vison like the campaign (also, Elites had their own night vision with a purple filter). When Night vision was enabled for Spartans or Elites, you would have the ability to assassinate your allies. lol
I 100% forgot about the generator defense mode in that Reach beta. I remember now getting conquest assault vibes from the battlefield games.
I remember in the Halo 3 beta, another thing that didnt make it to the retail release was the booby trap function of the trip mines. In the beta if you threw a trip mine under a parked vehicle, it would latch itself to the underside and explode as soon as you starting driving. I completely understand why it was taken out since you could barely see it and it led to so many betrayals but good lord was it hilarious
I remember the Trip Mine in the Halo 3 Beta was amazing. It was so much more powerful and was magnetic.
You could throw it under the warthog and it would stick to the underside. And players would not see it.
14 years later and my halo 3 beta still hasn't loaded.

The history of these betas and flights are very interesting, fortunately I was too young to play any of these when they were around. Now their are somethings that from these betas that I wish were in the final game. Also that elite riding on the back of the troophog looked so cool, wish that was in the final game.

I played the H3 Beta, I rented a copy of Crackdown from Blockbuster (if you remember what that is) and played without having to buy Crackdown which because of the H3 beta made it a $60 game. I can't believe more people didn't do that.
I kind of hope 343 will give us the Avalanche remake in the MCC too. It would be nice to have a different version of it considering you have to play that map so much in H3 BTB

I think we got the beta from playing halo 2 on xbox live, which that was everyday anyways so no big deal, especially being in high school at the time. Those were some great halo years with friends. Monster/ Mt.Dew , chips and taquitos hehe.

There was actually another way to get the Beta for Halo 3, but this was exclusively for People in Germany. You had to pre order Halo 3 at GameStop. You should then get a code that you had to redeem on another site and register within a certain period of time. When the beta started you would get an email from Bungie with all the information and instructions. I bought one of the pre-order pack on the internet with a old code from 2007.

There was a earlier Halo Reach beta. If you played Halo 3 on MLG level you would/could be invited to the first closed beta (or more like a technical preview). This beta was kinda secret, and you had to sign a non-disclosure agreement. Not sure how old that build was tough.
I’m pretty sure the Halo 5 Beta ran at 720p 60fps. Digital Foundry made a video looking into the Beta’s performance.
Is there ANY WAY to download Untitled Halo MMORGP or the Halo Online? Unfinished beta's, sure, but I want to see what they are about.

It's my first time for watching this video. Like Halo multiplayer flight beta and the Halo demo gameplay.
Hope the next flight for infinite will include vehicle based maps and modes. I really want to mess around with the new vehicle physics that 343 have been talking about, and also shoot the skewer at a vehicle.
i never got a chance to get to any past betas, mainly cuz i was still in school back then. but for infinite, i signed up for the flight late and didn't get invited, hopefully ill be able to play round 2 beta.

Halo 4 most definitely did have a beta. However, iirc, that was only available to Microsoft employees.
I remember my father working in Microsoft at that time, coming home and giving me a code to access the Halo 4 beta. I remember that one map where we could play on was on Longbow with either yellow or green vs purple as opposed to the standard red vs. blue.
I remember my first ever game I played was Lego Batman on the 360 and halo 3 I remember trying to play sick to play halo 3 and trying to do same when halo reach came out to get out of school to play

Correction on the Halo 5 beta, if no one caught it. It ran at 720p 60 FPS. Not 30. It was always 60 FPS, but to get it to 1080p that's where the sacrifices were made
All these videos are making the wait unbearable. Already frustrated I was the only one in my squad who didn’t get an invite for any of the weekends, but on top of that, halo has taken over the internet. Can’t wait.

You can still play Eldewrito, Microsoft stopped them from distributing Halo Online, they didn't stop them from distributing or working on the mod, they did continue updating it, and it's still very playable to this day, and people do still play it.
The reason it died is because people say stuff like you just did "Microsoft pulled the plug" implying that it was illegal to play it. It never was, Hype made the game great and then dumb hype killed it off, the community did that by misunderstanding what the cease and desist meant.
