What a heart wrenching story of love between two odds. I must say this was so well narrated that it simply bought me to tears at the end. I also adore the way Mr.Wilde incorporates brutal reality into his tales, makes them more charming than mere utopian fictions.💗✨
It has been 20 years since Mr. Gielgud departed. His beautiful speaking voice was fine and crafted, like Benvenuto Cellini had cast it. Had someone handed him a telephone book, it would have been transformed into poetry when he spoke it. Thank you, for posting this.
I suppose there's no reason to tell us that the student will never even notice a small dead nightingale lying by his window with a rose third in its chest. And even if he did he's only see it as a nuisance and not even feel the passing sadness of seeing a dead bird.
"Surely Love is a wonderful thing. It is more precious than emeralds..." You could see the Student's rejection from a mile away. Jewels enticed the girl more than an ephemeral red rose. This is exactly what Frank Zappa used to rail against. Syrupy lyrics of love that bedazzle but never never live up to the expectations.

Reading this story in full was the first time that I'd ever thought "that idiot!" and "you b****!" while reading.
