I read this story once to my devoted friend, and just like the water rat, he didn't take it very well. I described him as the MILLER, and the description fits him like a glove. Funny enough, my name is Oscar too.
The Miller's character is quite disappointing, knowing that humanity was just as nasty as it was more than a century ago. RIP Mr.Wilde, they didn't deserved him at all.💗
That the simple-minded, naive or innocent are ruthlessly exploited to the point of death by the unscrupulous, utterly solipsistic (selfish) and duplicitous (two-faced). Be subservient and yielding at your peril.

Written by Oscar Wilde, narrated by Sir John Gielgud....does it get any better?
Ah Oscar, the lord of language.
