    20:32 here is what wiki says about it ^^ The Preetz Model 65 is a blowback action, semi-automatic .22LR
    caliber survival rifle made in several models by Josef G. Landmann of
    Holstein or Preetz, West Germany, also listed as J.G.L. or JGL 65, 68
    and 69 in some references.[1] It was intended as a rival to the Armalite AR-7.
    A .22 Magnum version identified by a tubular extension to the receiver
    was also made. An article on Guns.com has suggested that the Model 65 is
    actually a clone of the AR-7.[2]
    This claim is supported by allegations on some firearms forums that
    with a little work, many of the internal parts are interchangeable
    between the two.

    Metal detecting is so much better in Europe than it is in the US. I live in New Mexico & there is some old west stuff, especially on the trails west. There are also some Civil War sites but that's about it for historical stuff.
    Europe has a much longer & richer history when it comes to stuff to be found with a metal detector.

    The second gun is a JGL automat 65, a .22lr semi-auto survival rifle made from 1965 to 1975 and designed by Josef G. Landmann (JGL) in Preetz, West Germany. This one has a 10 round magazine and the buttstock is missing. The receiver is made of Zamak, a zinc/aluminium/magnesium/copper alloy and thats why it didnt rust. 19:30 It is a Josef G. Landmann Preetz model 65 semi auto rifle. They were made in .22LR and .22 magnum calibre. It was very popular in Germany in the seventies before it was banned as an "anscheinswaffe" a gun that looks like a military weapon. This ban has recently been revoked BTW so they are regaining popularity there. Some groups in Germany and Ireland used them, converted to full auto.
    The receiver is made of zamac, barrel is removable. Furniture is easily changed, pistol grips for front and rear are available, as is a civilian looking wooden stock. It is a nice plinker.

    The ring is very interesting. The R your right is probably meant to stand for Romanus as they did use single letter abbreviations. But by that logic alone that leaves us with the M which is probably meant for the same reason as a name of something or someone. If it was meant to name something the M could have stood for manius which was a popular name back then. However it would have been written M' with the apostrophe at the end of it. Because it contains no apostrophe then it is very possible to have stood for Marcus which would have meant the ruler at the time the ring was made. Which makes sense a person would be proud of the fact they were from Rome and honored the ruler at the time with his name marking on the ring.
    Marcus Aurelius ruled from 161 to 180. now the hieroglyphs below it is a mystery and I wish someone would translate what they meant.

    • @RJStockton
      @RJStockton 9 років тому

      Or, "M" could be how Romans wrote "1,000."

    • @evilcowboy
      @evilcowboy 9 років тому +1

      Richard Stockton
      Well yeah but the only reason they would have used it would be a date code. The M would be 1000 which would have made the coin date by the way they did their dating 1000 A.D. which makes no since because the Roman empire fell in 476 A.D.
      So I figured it probably stood for Rome and the ruler at the time.

    • @RJStockton
      @RJStockton 9 років тому +1

      Also, the Romans didn't number years from the birth of Jesus. So there's that.

    that second gun the bluing on it was impeccable and speaks volumes for the finish applied. The barrel is not so good but could be replaced but honestly it might clean up with minor pitting. That gun can be restored to its original form just by cleaning it up and replacing springs, the hardest part would be getting the mag out and the bolt out of the receiver. Very cool find.

    The second gun you found is an Automat manufactured by Josef G Landmann. Preetz refers to the city in which Josef G Landmann was based. It's a semi automatic .22 caliber gun sold on the civilian market. They are very rare although I'd imagine a non-working relic wouldn't sell very well. The furniture was made of wood and on this example it has obviously rotted off, leaving the gun with no stock, grip or handguard, which had a forward pistol grip integrated into it. Very interesting and rare find, I'm surprised that someone managed to lose one in the woods somehow!

    All y'all wrong about the PROPER name of the second gun. It is NOT a Luger. It is NOT an Armalite AR-7 It was, and still is known as a PREETZ MODEL 65, designed by Josef G. Landmann. It was made from 1965 to 1975. The receiver (shiny part) is made from ZAMAC, a cheap, lightweight zinc alloy. The ZAMAC held up pretty well after being exposed so long to the elements. The Preetz 65 primarily came as a SURVIVAL carbine (rifle). It was a competition to the Armalite AR-7 Survival Rifle (carbine) of the same time. I did find one photo of the gun in a PISTOL configuration which matches the long, rusted machine screw that once held a wooden PISTOL grip in place in the gun he dug up. This web page shows photos of pistol and carbine versions: www.pulverdampf.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=8501. Also HERE: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preetz_Model_65
    and here at very bottom of the page: www.imfdb.org/wiki/Talk:Armalite_AR-7

      +Big Dave Big Dave is spot on with his identification of this weapon, the JGL Preetz Automat Model 65 Survival Rifle chambered in .22 caliber. Here is a better link to the picture of it as provided by Big Dave. prntscr.com/899z1p The barrel would unscrew as well as the magazine and everything was stored in the stock. Picture of how carbine is stored: prntscr.com/89a14i: It was quite a neat idea and a knockoff of the Eugene Stoner (inventor of M 16) issued as a survival rifle to American Pilots. It is still sold in the USA and I'm sure other parts of the world and is a favorite with pilots in areas of the world were a pilot may crash and need a weapon for protection and / or secure food such as say Alaska or Africa for example. It is now made by Henry Rifles.

    Where ever you find stuff, you should record their exact GPS location with them where you found them, that's what I'd recommend. Just on an index card, and the time and date you found them and your name. Be careful with explosives that have set for a long time, the nitroglycerin can settle out of the gun powder, and its movement sensitive. Mostly it will be inert from water seeping in, but you never know. Love your videos, keep them up, reconnecting with history is worth more than gold!

    Though it was missing the wooden stock, it was certainly the JGL Automat 65 or Preetz Model 65.
    It produced from 1965 to 1975 and was a survivalists rifle in 22 caliber, automatic.
    What it looked like: www.panzer.cz/cs/malorazky/380-malorazka-jgl-automat-65-22-lr.html
    And the wiki page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preetz_Model_65

    Dan at 9:24 I'm faily confident that it is a signat ring used to mark a document as official communication between a prominent family or government. When it was pressed into the wax it would leave a relief. It is how official documents and communications where sealed.

    About the Gun:
    it is .22LR Semi Automatic survival rifle. it isnt very common. i had a hard time getting information but it is a failed and rare gun. it didn't do well in the eyes of the world. it wasn't a bad gun but it was meek and went unnoticed in the grande scheme of things.
    Made to rival the AR-7.
    Sad i cant put links up but still. i bet you can find it :)

  • @srjohndeans5508
    @srjohndeans5508 10 років тому +1

    Let's see receiver not rusted, it's not steel that's why it's probably an AR-7 survival rifle. It was junk when it was new and still is to this day. I'm an expert

    When I was 4, my family lived in Germany in 1966, I remember when I was 4, me and sisters were going through some woods and under some brush I came across some small rusted unopen cans. I picked some up and some of the contents leaked out on my jacket and boy, did it stink! I think I probably found some old C ration cans.

      Grunt Headshot its actually a malorazka jgl automat

    • @blitzwing870
      @blitzwing870 9 років тому

      No there was a later version of the Mauser that was full auto but not popular due to the small clip/magazine and therefore it was just kinda lost in time

  • @ICanCount2Potatos1
    @ICanCount2Potatos1 11 років тому +1

    i now know what your smg is
    its a jgl automat
    it was built around the action of an ar7
    and was suposed to look like a thompson
    its a civilian firearm
    but they became illigal to own for a short time
    which is why you migh find some dumped in the woods

  • @mrfairport
    @mrfairport 11 років тому +1

    its a Josef Landmann .22 caliber rifle, they made them too like like a submachine gun but they're semiautomatic .22 caliber rifles.

    Amazing is right! U could start yr own museum w/artifacts dug on this day alone, adding to it after each outing. Or clean items & sell 'em - make some pretty purse - covering costs for additional coastal caravan holidays. If I were ever to make it to GB's glorious western shores (from Cornwall north comprises my bucket list), a reputable holiday park is the way I'd go - clean & roomy enuff for 2-4 lodgers, & economical, if chosen carefully & costs split. Stock it like a mini home-away-from-home, prep yr own meals, & live & explore for 2 wks on what it would cost to stay just a few days at one of the tourist trap hotel/restaurant chains.

    Those two old coins you found look Roman the leafing on it is a clue and the unevenness is a sign of it being struck as in formed with a harmer. That is the ancient way of making a coin.
