Thanks Sara. Many people think its OK to act foolish when commenting. If they first took the time to read the video description, most negative comments would not exist.
What an idiotic thought. The comments that you feel are "rude" are not at all but rather to help viewers realize that while this guy is well intentioned, the instruction is incorrect. There ARE qualified people out here that can recognize bad advice, and feel it necessary to speak out.
My partner showed me a hole in the wall he was embarrassed by and used to cover with a painting. I told him it was okay and an easy fix. This video has proved that! Thank you so much for informing on how to fix it. 😊

It's a shotty job. Anyone that showed up with a Wal-Mart 3 pack of plastic putty knives would have been gone immediately. That flex in the patch piece as you mud is a no no. Look up wing patch or California patch and for God's sake get a metal tapping knife. I'd like to see that patch with a parallel flash light. And you should never sand through mesh tape. I did the exact same repair with the small piece of 2x3 wood and some extra drywall. Except, I bevelled all the edges (wall and filler piece). About a decade later, I ran the repair by a drywall guy and he told me that instead of making the filler panel square, his recommendation was to use a round shaped filler panel utilizing an appropriate sized kitchen pot lid as a template. He told me that this would prevent possible filler cracking in the corners.

I am no expert but I did work for U.S.G in Galena Park for nineteen years and was in the Quality Control Dept. The job you did was done nicely but I just wanted to know why was the sheetrock installed on backwards. There is an ink code on back of the sheetrock that will tell you the date and time and even the shift who made the sheetrock. I even had to inspect the sheetrock for thickness, strength and water absorption on the Water resistant sheetrock. Other than the sheetrock being installed backwards. You did an exceptional job. Am a pro carpenter, painter, Mason ect 28yrs.i don't even use the backer board.i cut my patch and square hole to fit so tightly and snug it does not fall into wall.when you get good at cutting the whole and patch to fit perfectly tight you don't need backing
@@GarryPurcell yes you use a speed-square to make sure the patch piece and hole is perfectly square .I cut the patch first then put over hole to mark n cut tight.u can gradually shave patch or hole to fit nice and tight n slowly tightly fit flush.also don't turn the patch piece with dark side facing outward cause you will need much more spackle n labour to cover dark side
@@GarryPurcell there a beveled way to shave the patch so that it never can fall inside wall because you have no backing by cutting patching like 1 /16 bigger than hole n gradually shave it beveled to fit tight

I prefer to measure the hole as a square, cut a piece of plasterboard to that size, hold it over the hole and Stanley knife around it. Then it fits perfectly. I have done this so it fits so well it doesn't need any support. Depends on the wall of course.

Very true but the proof is in the end result, innit? This was a great job done without full access to tools, materials etc You can't see any blemish on the wall when job is complete so that is good enough for me!
The cut out was put in backwards, and it was taped and puttied elevated from the wall around it. It's best to let the cut out recess a little as that's much easier to fill. Not to mention, doing a home repair shouldn't be accompanied by "Doesn't have to be perfect, don't have to be too particular, doesn't have to be exact" the whole time you're doing it.

Nice concept but I thought I was going to have a stroke with his crooked cuts. Whenever I cut drywall I usually cut back to the studs, but this one was borderline cut or patch. Thought he was going to cut a finger off. And get a workbench. What was he cutting on? Microwave or an AV receiver? Spackel? Too large of a hole. Use mud. Especially if you are using tape. Use a taping knife. Wet it to keep material from clumping and dragging across workspace. End result...did it matter, not really. Just pride mainly. Plus I can clean up alot less with a wet sponge instead of sanding. Thanks for the idea though and the bravery of putting this up. Has over a million views so that's quite an accomplishment in itself.

The comments are from people with anger issues who punched a hole through their wall, u think they’re gonna be civil? 😂

It's a shotty job. Anyone that showed up with a Wal-Mart 3 pack of plastic putty knives would have been gone immediately. That flex in the patch piece as you mud is a no no.

Well done by showing using just simple tools to do a job well, Mr. Garry Purcell.
My uncle, a former Col of the SAS taught me guns and patch things up using basic tools too.
That was what I'm trying to show in this video, that you don't need fancy tools to make an acceptable repair.
Alot of negative comments. I guess everyone is an expert.
I've done drywall work all my life ' Hey if that works for you that's all that matters. I'm more impressed that have replied to so many comments. I'm sure Alot have found the video helpfull and if I was in a pinch I'd use this method
So I'm giving you a 👍
Thank you for your kind words, most people don't bother to read the video description before commenting.
I've seen walls repaired with Rolled up Paper backing, Drywall backing, Chicken wire covered in Newspaper, Corrugated Cardboard backing, Burlap Sack backing, and all held up well, some for close to 100 years.
I had to borrow and scrounge what i could to complete the task at hand.
P.S. When I have all my tools with me I normally use the method below to repair walls.

Yeah Alot of people jump to conclusions and are quick to judge without knowing the facts.
So yeah you handled the comments well.
@@keithclark486 Again thank you for your kind words.
I wish you and your family, all the best for the coming festive season.
You have some good pointers in your comment.
Thanks for posting! I feel prepared to fill the hole.
You can do it!
P.S. If your repairing a wall for the first time, you might like this video as well.

By watching both, you will get a better understanding as to how easy it is to DIY.
Thanks Gary, don’t listen to the knuckleheads. You’re too kind..
7.5k views later, keep going 👍🏻
Thanks for your kind words.
Many people have their own way of doing things, and think your wrong, if you deviate from their idea.
If you read the video description, it explains why the repair was done this way.
P.S. I have a better instruction video below, (when I had all my tools with me.)

Real tv on how to plug a hole using everyday tools in the home, worked fine for me thanks 👍🏻
Thank you for your kind words.
Its amazing how many people miss that point.🙂
Someone should teach this bloke how to do it properly
Someone should learn to Read the Video Description before commenting.
P.S. I normally use this method when I have my tools with me.

I've done this before but I screw the new piece of dry wall to the timber to fix it so it doesn't move. Or you can use a cut piece of dry wall instead of timber
Thanks for sharing how you repair your walls.
I normally use this method below.

JUST what I needed - Plumbing corrections required a big hold in the room next to the bathroom. No one wants such a small job - I'll just try and do it myself. Thank you very much.
Glad it helped!
I also have a slightly different repair video you might like.
By watching both, you will have a better understanding of just how easy it is to do these wall repairs yourself.

I just go to the dollar store and buy a small picture to cover the holes.
Thanks for a quick fix idea.😍
Garry Purcell ...Thank-you kind Sir.
I like sweet kitten 🐱 pictures with filigree-gold frames 🖼. 💕
And I got me my Mortal Combat posters signed in my opponents blood.
Just sayin’

Lol I wish we could too! Our landlord would not be too happy ;)
