Wow Glenn, when you said a mornings work I was surprised, it looked like you guys were working for days lol! Can't wait to see the next part of the build man.
Hey Joe, thanks man and great to hear from you. Its one hell of a project but loving it. The slab was a big milestone and now the real fun of erecting so e buildings
Great to see how well this big job has gone. Top marks for all involved-it does need a lot of combined coordinated work to get the best results. Having a firm base to build on makes what comes next much more enjoyable. Now you will see quick results as the structures rise from a well made base. Greetings from Tasmania Australia-Southern Cross Observatories-42 South 147 East. 👏😁🇦🇺🦘
Hi Shevill, great to hear from you and I hope all is well with you. I am really loving the build and now I am getting to the exciting part. Was really important to get the base well made though as you say and should help greatly with the next stages of building. I am very blessed to have such support from friends and family. Kind regards Glenn
There's something very satisfying about seeing this project progressing along nicely - and seeing the care that you and your friends are putting into it's creation. Nice to see the vegetable patch there as well... if you are planning on growing your own too!
Thank you very much. I am so lucky to have such lovely friends and family. Glad you are enjoying the progress. There are actually 10 of those veg beds and my wife is keen to grow lots this year
That's coming along nicely. Seeing the concrete slab gives an even better idea of the scale of your project, very impressive indeed! Really looking forward to seeing the main structure go up!
Would have been a pleasure to have you help. Look forward to sharing the finished product when I can. I can give you a virtual tour at least and then let you remote in for a new collaborative project maybe.
Can't wait to see the finished observatory! It's immense! I thought the plastic shed build was a challenge but this is in a different league. See you Saturday. Mark
HI Mark and thank you mate. I must say that when I embarked on this I had a little doubt in my mind I had bitten off more than I can chew. Now I am into it I am really happy. Really excited actually and very keen to get it working. Look forward to catching up Saturday.
Aw Glenn mate this is coming along fantastic, I can't wait for the next one as it's really going to start to take shape quickly from here on out I'd say! 🙂 Good luck bud, hoping for some good dry weather for you!!
Thanks Luke. This was a big stage of the build and so happy to ha e it now completed. Weather not great but pressing on. Will have an Astro space back very soon, thanks for the support mate
@@Astrobloke Thanx Glenn. I will control it remotely - just one pier. Because of regulations I can`t build it bigger. Looking forward to your next episode 😁
That looks great Glenn, Once your out the ground the building will go up quickly mate , what you doing internet wise are you sharing your house connection or having an independent one ,looks like a long run from the house?
Thank you Tony. Got a few days to let the worst of this weather to pass but hopefully will be able to press on quickly now. I have considered a separate connection but I have a 50 m armoured length of ethernet I used before so I will try that first and if ok stick with it as the internet is quite stable here.
@@Astroblokeupto about 90m Ethernet run is all good mate , it's just from the video your garden looks much longer that that , time to put your feet up and crack a beer or two
@@Tony-Elliott Luckily I have a modem right at the back wall of the conservatory which knocks a good lump off. Just priced up the Armoured cable for power down there So I need to sit down anyways lol
Really enjoying watching this project evolve. Envious of course, but only in a friendly way 😊 Did you have to get planning consent from the local authority?
Thank you Stuart, really appreciate the kind comments. It all comes under permitted planning development as it is less than 50% of the overall garden size and below 2.5m in height.
did you ask permission of any authorities to build? I'm Guatemalan, and in a third world country sometimes bureaucracy gets in the way of any project, so, many things are built without nobody noticed them. And I have now a roll off observatory on the roof of my house, but I use the tripods, without poles.
Hi AstroDojo. In the UK something like this does not require any permissions. That sounds a great idea to have that on too of your house, the extra height must help. Nothing wrong with tripods. I only build piers because they take up less floor space and you can’t accidentally move them by tripping over a leg in the dark lol
One of the guys from the cement company looked at the piers not having a clue what they were and wondered if I was building a 50 shades of grey dungeon or something lol
Glad the weather was OK! Looking excellent!
Thank you Jeremy, It just about held. See you tomorrow
Really loving this build series can't wait for the next installment
Thank you Nik, glad you are enjoying the videos. Hope to get more done soon, Thanks for the encouraging comments

Gosh Glenn its going to be a big beast!, look forward to the public open days...
Thanks David, do you think it’ll be visited like the Greenwhich Royal Observatory? 🤣🤣

Thank you. I am really keen to get my scopes on the piers and all set up. Hopefully soon
Wah Glen, Looking really nice. Can’t wait to see finish line of this project! Good luck man.
Hi Ernest and thank you. Its going to progress nicely once the concrete has hardened enough. I can’t wait to get it working.
Great video, Glenn. I love that you're still using an old Black & Decker Workmate 🙂
Hi Fletch and thank you. I have had that workmate for ever. Bet they don’t make them as good anymore, certainly got my money worth out of it
Excellent! .....Kudos to all the guys helping you, gonna be something when its done. 👍
Yes I think it is going to be an amazing space. I am very lucky to have such good friends, their help has been an enormous help
A big part of the work is done, great work Glenn. That platform looks huge ....
Thank you. Yes it feels good to get that stage complete. Still lots to do but getting there
Very nice Glenn, a professional project all the way.
Thats very kind Woody. Its going really well and the help from Waldorf (ooos I mean Simon 😂) is really beneficial.

Thank you Pete. Its certainly a big project but will be my dream build. Hopefully will have some structure to share next weekend 🤞
This is looking amazing! Worth the effort!
Thank you James. It is a lot of work but as you say well worth it. I know I am going to be over the moon with it. clear skies mate
I thought I saw Simon there! I just wish I was nearby as I would have loved to help with the pour. That observatory will be a "Dandy" when finished.

Its large, but I have ambitious plans
Great job, it looks great.
Thank you Rob, appreciate that
I love this project Glenn. Keep up the good work. Mine obs gonna approx 2,5 by 2,5 m with a roll on/off roof. Hopefully I can start this spring :)

Hi Paulo. It was a good 10 days before I walked on it and started building about 2 weeks after the pour. Needs about 5 weeks to fully cure
