    Enjoying this video whilst hand sewing some linen dungarees for my little lad (with cotton thread! Went through my sewing box last month and threw away all the polyester ones- had hung on to them ‘in case’ for a long while, but realised I was never again going to choose to lessen something I’ve bothered to sew by using plastic thread!) I made the whole plastic discovery a few years ago, and switched fully to reusable versions of things, buying natural fibres and materials when there was something I truly needed, quality over quantity… no glitter, nail varnish or chewing gum… it is empowering to make these changes! Paint I still haven’t got my head around though- haven’t figured out where to buy paint that doesn’t contain plastic. Lovely to see you speaking about these things

      Oh that’s awesome!
      Thanks so much ❤️ if you’re in a English speaking country VOC free paint is the way to go, where as in Sweden we have old fashioned paint 😅 it’s so confusing!

    Thank you Saga so very nicely presented and thought provoking. I use my strimmer (weed whacker) much less now. Some plastic has taken the place of asbestos which was even more dangerous. Yes we need to approach the suppliers - if the products are there in the first place then people will buy. If paper springs back when you crumple it then it probably contains plastic. 🏵🌻

    Tusen tak for this great and informative video Saga! Plastic is so very bad for the environment, but to think that people are ingesting it and causing a toxic environment in their very own bodies, well that's alarming ! You are so right in that it's the companies, and governments who are at fault, and ultimately it's all fueled by greed. Also, thank you for telling people to speak out and do something about it; here in the States it is way worse with horrific ingredients being allowed in many of our processed foods-processed foods are bad enough, but when you do an ingredient check, research on same, you will see that the United States FDA allows many ingredients to be put into foods that are outlawed in Europe...I do not know why, but I do know that we all need to take a stand over things like this. We live in a crazy world now, one that our grandparents never saw, and all the while we are seeing a rise in cancer and other illness, and we wonder why. This is why, because of a total lack of caring for people's well being, and instead focusing on the almighty dollar. I am very thankful there are people like you to speak out when it seems like the rest of us don't know how to be heard. I hope that our future will brighten as people care for themselves, and all of Nature. Maybe we can have far reaching effects if we only try~so grateful for you sweet Saga!🌱💝💖🌹

    And.. we’re on the same wavelength about this too. Honestly, it doesn’t surprise me at all. In addition to that, as we previously discussed it, it’s wild how some families are having like ten kids without the means to really take care of them. You see kids getting all this junk instead of what they really need, and it’s just sad.
    As for me, I don’t drink, smoke, or do drugs, but when I hit the dance floor, I’m the one having the most fun! It just goes to show that you can have a blast without all that stuff.
    If I could, I’d totally get rid of cars for the most part. I think only people who really need them-like those with disabilities-should be using them. It drives me nuts when I see folks driving just a few hundred meters with their engines running, especially in Italy. It’s too silly, to put it lightly.
    This world is beautiful, but it’s being messed up by really thoughtless choices of many.

    • @SagaJohanna
      @SagaJohanna  3 місяці тому +1

      ❤️❤️❤️
      Yes I think people need to be empowered and unfortunately these companies are allowed to put whatever they want into - whatever they want!
      I’m actually surprised here in the country side, ppl never leave their cars running - maybe because of finances? At least that’s a positive about the cars here 😅

      @@SagaJohanna I'm so happy about it. I've been in the countryside of Lazio and Toscana and they would use cars. Of course nothing compared to the cities in which, if you use the bike, some silly people think you're " too poor to purchase a car", which is beyond sad. In a small town in Toscana, while they saw me walking everyday they would stop and ask me if I needed a lift, I answered I wanted to walk, that I cared about my health and some though it was crazy. At least in Sweden this is normal.

    Well, what about headphones made of plastic, or keyboard bottoms, and a even in linen shirts bottoms made of plastics? Also medical syringes, and surgery instruments as well. What’s the way? Glass syringes would be a way more expensive and reusable - which would make them less hygienic and a risk of broken. Keyboard buttons made of wood? Or metal? It would add a way more weight in the era of making laptops more light. And buttons on a shirts if they would be made of stones or metal would extremely hight their prices and couldn’t be posing as mass products. Also in the water crane there is a water gird made of plastics too (at the top of the crane in your bathroom, but they could be easily removed). Also water tubes which are parts of home water communications systems are also made of plastic, and metal are rusting fast and degrading fast. Also a lot of people using nylon brushes in toothbrushes, and even a natural brush has a plastic handle.
    Pillows buy the way could be made of a buckwheat husk, I use them, but for many people they seems very or extremely rigid too sleep and pain if you sleep on the sides. Toothpaste could be replaced by a toothpowder which doesn’t contains micro plastic. We also use it in our outdoors , to avoid use toothpaste straight in the water lakes.
    But anyway. There is a tons of products made of this material like I wrote about. Also some parts of washing machines for laundry, working with high temperatures or even all types of refrigerators with food is made of plastic. I don’t know even one company who does made their refrigerators with something else inside.

    I’ve even heard that paper towels and toilet paper can have plastic 🫣 and be careful for your dental floss and toothbrush bristles! Most are made of plastic! It took me a very long time to find the plastic free variety. Even if you make your own toothpaste at home, you still could be eating micro plastics from your toothbrush! No wonder they say we eat a credit card worth of plastic a week. 😅

    Cotton thread isn't good for machine sewing clothing, it breaks easily on the machine and can shrink, ruining the stitches. I think this is a case where polyester wins as the better option

    • @SagaJohanna
      @SagaJohanna  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes! I do wanna point out that it’s maybe more accessible for some people - but not for the companies! However we’ll be paying for it in the long run and then people of lower socioeconomic conditions will take the biggest hit:( And people who shop the most are people who can afford a better option.

    Something that bothered me about this video is that you just don't take into account that there are a lot of different types of plastic, and they all have different names and properties, so in the ingredients it is important to disclose which kind of plastic is included. So of course the ingredient list won't say plastic, it will include the name or chemical formula of the specific plastic included!
    It's like complaining that you weren't warned something had wood in it when the ingredient label says oak. It's not meant to deceive you into thinking there's no plastic there, it's just that just saying plastic is so broad it might as well be meaningless.
    If you care to avoid plastics, learn the different types or just Google the ingredients you don't understand.

    • @SagaJohanna
      @SagaJohanna  3 місяці тому +1

      This is about the plastic that was NOT on the ingredient list. For example, crayons - doesn’t often disclose ingredients. Gum base - doesn’t disclose plastic. Tempur - trade secrets. Thread - not included on the label. I have several videos on fabrics for example, with different types of plastic. This is a video about how companies deceive us. I’d be angry at them ;)
