This is so wholesome! As an English girl, I completely understand sun anxiety. If the sun comes out, I have to drop everything and get out there because you might not see it again for 2 months! 😂
I agree completely with my wife, Wina (who commented earlier). This was a lot of fun. And I learned quite a bit, too. Both Sweden and New Zealand are places I would so love to visit. I've felt that way for years, and now I want to even more. Also, you are both so sweet together.💞
@@SagaJohanna I would invite you to visit us in the US, but you would be shocked at all the folks wearing their pajamas to the store, slippers, holey t-shirts, dirty, muddy, clothes/work boots. We just don't really care. Of course there are some parts of the US that differ. We're just so big you can't generalize. I've heard that in the SE, women (at least white women) must be all fancy and full makeup to go out, starting when they are girls. Maybe 10 years old? I don't know, I'm from Minnesota and Wisconsin. When I was a kid (I'm 58 now), some ladies would go out with rollers in their hair, and sometimes with a scarf over them but not always! I don't believe in always being dressed up, and I'm not bothered by seeing casual, sloppy clothes (even though my great-grandparents all came from Sweden). 😄 I try not to judge when someone is wearing their dirty bed slippers, even though I never would. I do wear casual or ripped/mended clothes, just never go that far. One thing is for sure, due to health codes, we can't go barefoot into a shop, restaurant, whatever. So slippers!
A very entertaining and informative video today. How lovely to meet your husband, Saga. You're a lovely couple and I wish you both all the best. ❤ It sounds as though Swedish people are a little more proper and the New Zealanders are more laid back. One isn't better than the other, but differences make life more interesting. 😊
Adorable couple. You found the prince Charming you deserve Saga. Thinking of leaving Sweden for Ireland, Scotland, Canada or New Zealand within a few years with my wife and daughter. So, some people don't wear shoes at the shops in NZ??? Well, that's it then - New Zealand it is!
Thank you ❤ That sounds great! NZ is a lot more expensive than Sweden in terms of what you get, so I'd suggest one of the other countries as long as you don't mind the cold! Haha :D
Love this video, Saga. You guys interact so well together. I find both Swedish and New Zealand culture fascinating, so this is a goldmine of information on both, with a nice, casual conversation. Very funny too, especially the end! 😂
So refreshing to see a couple who seem to genuinely like and love each other. Very rare, I believe. And the both of you being so-down-to earth and unpretentious is a breath of fresh air. Enjoyable video. 😊
I totally get the Sun anxiety. I’m from Newfoundland in Canada where it is not sunny often so when it is I feel like we must take advantage. No sitting around indoors on a sunny day especially when it is warm. We must hike, swim, picnic, bike, kayak, etc. all of it in one day if possible😂
You are so right about the crap insulation in New Zealand houses. During the winter, when I lived in Christchurch, the house cooled down really fast after turning off the heating. It really wouldn't cost much more to build them well insulated. I also remember the documentary about students living in Dunedin. One could see their exhaled breath inside their houses.
In the house where I stayed in Dunedin the windows looked like in Malaysia - they were always on ventilation mode. There are cold winds in South island. Nothing protects against Antarctic winds.
Sweden sounds wonderful. I'd love to be more clean driven... and the hugging. I often feel accosted when someone presses against me. Love the way she talks about her life.
What lovely relaxing comments. As a german only sometimes in Sweden and neighbor of some swedish guests in Cyprus this wintertime I confirm the politeness, clean and well dressed and english speaking people, I could known very friendly. But also in Sweden are some cows of course and since many years you could pay by card at every small dealer e.g. with strawberries or whatever you like and there is a working cellphone net everywhere(in germany not). I hope to find some weeks to visit Sweden in summertime. Now I enjoy the spring in Batumi(georgia),
Thank you ❤ That is true! I'd love to visit Germany one day, I think we might have some things in common in our cultures. And the nature looks beautiful!
I love how you've presented this with such honesty and happy warmth. No "coolness" or artifice. I often diparage why the U.S. here seems so behaviorally affected; I want to walk barefoot!
Hahaha. This is what I first noticed when I left Scotland to live in Sweden. No mould in every bathroom, no moisture sodden windows every morning. The other great thing is how common it is to have a balcony in ones flat. That improves life so much!
Oh that's so funny! Love hearing it from the opposite side, and I always wanted a balcony growing up. I tried convincing my dad to add one to my room on the house "whilst he was renovating anyway" haha :D
That was great. First time here. Learned more about NZ than I thought I would. I'm allergic to mold and mildew though. It's such a beautiful country. Love that Sweden is so clean and great design
This is hilarious! Very accurate. Especially the sun anxiety 😂🤣 true! I’m Swedish too. I do think, however, that Swedes do hug. Every time I greet friends and family, we hug.
I, too, came here as a Swede to say that hugging is very common in Sweden (in social settings, not professional ones). The first time you meet someone, it might be a handshake, but after that, it is all hugs.
40 years ago i visited Scandinavia with my parents, one thing i found fascinating when i looked at it in Sweden was "house moss" specifically the use of it between the glass in double glazed windows.. it soaked up any condensation, although i think it was mainly used in the older houses which it was also used between the wooden cladding on the outside...
I actually learned most about NZ, I was not aware of the fact that peoples houses aren't well insulated and they are fine with holes in their shirts (this aspect I really like, who want to throw out their fav shirt only because it has holes!).
Sweet video. How do you keep the windows condensation free in Sweden? You mentioned a dehumidifier, if that's the case than do you need one for every room?
lol I found this video today! I celebrate 25 years of marriage with my Swede! 😊we met online in 1996. I emigrated from NY to Borlänge in 1997. Then we moved to NY in 2009 for a bit. We will be moving back to Sweden eventually lol
NZ people appear to be willing to connect with Europe even they are so far away. For example, I saw few EU looking car number plates. I had to take a closer look and instead of EU country codes they had NZ letters. In Japan also, I saw few European plates, but they were original plates on imported cars and Japanese plate was covering numbers of European plate.
You guys are so cute together ❤ I'm also a Swede who married a Kiwi, but I grew up mostly in Australia. I agree with the gender equality in Sweden. The difference was even more noticeable when my parents first visited Australia 40 years ago. My parents visited a pub in Sydney and the staff made it clear that they should move to the 'ladies bar' as it wasn't appropriate for my mother to be in the pub. When we moved over, and were living in Queensland, the women on our street made my mother aware they were upset that she mowed the lawn, as that was a man's job according to them. I think NZ and Australian society is better now, but still have further to go, as far as gender equality. I think people in NZ and Australia are generally more laid back and friendlier. Swedes are more uptight and reserved in public, more concerned with behaving properly and following rules. Although when Swedes travel they have a reputation of letting their hair down. Our experience with Swedes speaking English has been the opposite. We found that as soon as anyone got a whiff of us speaking English, they would launch into English. To the point where it was almost annoying. Great channel Saga, I enjoy your videos.
Oh how interesting - and thank you for sharing! Yes, I’ve had experiences here where men would talk to my husband and shake his hand, but refuse me. Very strange!
Sounds like the Swedish need to loosen up a bit.😂😊 I have a friend who married a woman from Sweden for several years with children but ended up divorced because of the obsessiveness. It’s good that you are getting out and experiencing the world and other cultures. Hang in there ☀️🌙⭐️

I love swedish culture and i enjoy learning about it. I almost moved there before meeting my kiwi partner and ended up in NZ. I saw some girls in McDonalds who look like their rolled out of bed and went to McDo in their pijamas, some barefeet, some with fluffy slipers and their hair tied up so messy. How did you guys found common ground? I struggle with my partner who wears gendels everywehere, including when we go out on a date😅
Oh cool! :D I think so too. Haha yes, right?! Haha luckily my partner hates jandals, he finds them uncomfortable. We're both pretty "neutral" which has helped us a lot.

Great Video Saga! I live in CH and have been to Sweden which I loved. Everyone I met spoke English. I found the people friendly across Scandinavia. Haven't been to NZ but lived for 2 years in OZ. I noticed some toxic masculinity there. Not a lot of refinement. Also, the idea of walking around barefooted in public for me, a hygiene freak, would be disturbing to see 😂 especially as I know what is on the ground 😵💫
I am from the United States, and if I don’t find love in my country I plan to go to either Sweden or Finland to find the love of my life. Why do I choose Sweden or Finland, because most of the population has blonde hair, blue eyes and can speak English as a second language.
Haha great video. So what would be your tip to meet a swedish woman? I find the culture very interesting and would love to explore that kind of relationship… being from a polar opposite culture 😅
