Personally when asked I say I'm in Richmond when in reality I'm in New Kent purely to avoid the "where's that"? thatll come from saying the name Ashburn and other smaller areas near major cities. Now if they're locals talking to locals then yes its irritating. Example my helper lives in Fredericksburg as far as I knew. Turned out he lives between culpeper and fredericksburg and it's more inconvenient to come to richmond then say Warrenton area where we work near a great deal.
I used to live in VA and regret leaving, it is so beautiful and there is so much history. We wld spend almost every weekend visiting different historical sites.
@@josetteskinner4200 one of my fav places in va is Montpelier, james madison's home is there and James Madison university. So, so beautiful, it rendered us all a little ga ga goo goo. The sunlight seemed a little brighter or something. The whole area around appomattox is another one of those places. Going up into the mountains on cold cold winter days, I really enjoyed tht, made u feel alive and I always slept really really good those nites. Cld go on and on. I miss va so much. Take care and enjoy the view. 💙VA🏞️☀️🐎
I regretted moving too. I lived in Northern/Southern Virginia, DC, and Maryland areas most of my life until it got too expensive, too crowded, and the crime rate increased. I also liked the history for all three places and there was much more to do than other places I have lived.
@@williamboswell1055 I was in northern va in the 80s. U r right, it did become too crowded and the crime really bad. I do miss the historical places tho, and once we got out of no va, it was usually always beautiful , I swear tht in some places , like around appomattox, the sunshine seemed a bit more sparkly than it does here. If money was tight, there was always the mall and smithsonian to visit. I do miss it ! 💙va🐎
I think that's just Lynchburg. It's the only place I've ever experienced microbursts and ice storms (with tops of trees literally exploding). We lost power all the time; thank goodness our house had a working fireplace.
I friggin love Virginia.. I'm from Germany. I love the mountains, lushes greens. And the people there.. i don't like the big cities or mainstream tourism destinations.. Virginia feels like my second home
I have lived in the Shenandoah Valley my whole life, and I highly agree with your final comment about how charming the valley is. It is the PERFECT place to live in the entire state - we have the mountains, the Shenandoah River, tons of cool caverns (rimshot) to tour, national/state parks, wineries and breweries, and we are JUST far enough from DC to not have that NOVA/city bustle or traffic yet still just an hour drive to DC.
I grew up in Alexandria, and my parents held the Valley close to their hearts. Generally speaking, we loved the Commonwealth. It was home to both sides of my parents' families. When I retired and the last person in my family died, I moved to the Valley. I didn't know anyone in your Valley, but I knew I would be safe. After all, it was my beloved Virginia. Prior to that move, it never occurred to me that anything or anyone could distance Virginia from my heart. Certainly, it never occurred to me that Virginians themselves would go out of their way to do it.
You forgot to mention theres farms and trees everywhere with nothing to do and only 2 big cities of Harrisonburg and Winchester with some stuff to do and DC is 3 hours away not an hour lol
I live in prince William..and it sucks..too much crime, traffic..I cant wait to retire and move out of this area..how ever if you looking for jobs it's a great place to work..and build your career!!
Trey McFerrin good advice. I’ve had 4 speeding tickets in Fairfax County and got a reckless last summer. Cops in VA get pissed when they see someone not driving safe
@@JabrenHarris98 You are crazy! They love West Point and Williamsburg. Its just when you hit Newport News there aren't as many cuts for them to hide plus the tunnels. Snakes in the grass all over 64 and 95.
I love va too..but Not Northern Virginia..it sucks and getting worse..cant wait to retire and head West!!.crime getting really bad ..two shootings, and armed robberys occur frequently...
I grew up in northern Virginia. It's a beautiful place and so lush with trees everywhere. I ended up in California which is the opposite. It's dry and dusty here. Theres way more concrete than trees. If I could do things over I never would have left Virginia.
Good to know! I’ve lived in California all of my life and I’m over it! Don’t want to raise my son out here the culture is trash! My family and I indulge in trail walking, hiking, and just love being outdoors. In order to access that we have to take long drives. I will look into moving here.
When I go driving through the US the state of Virginia is one of the stretches of highway I enjoy the most I enjoy the East End & South Virginia but especially in the west mountains of Virginia seems so peaceful and scenic
I’m from Virginia and, because of job relocation, I lived in most of these areas this guy speaks about. Some of what he says is true, however, his condescending attitude is too arrogant to overlook. Some of the quiet and naturally beautiful rural areas are excellent for families.
We visited Virginia a few months back and were very impressed by the welcoming we received from the people we met.. coming back next week to celebrate our anniversary.. and giving serious consideration to retire here in 8 years.
The closer you get towards Washington, DC, the ruder the people get. I love The rest of Virginia and have vacation property in Williamsburg. The removal of Virginia's history were not bode well in the long run.
The very first time I went to the US I went to a boarding school in Staunton VA and I completely fell in love with the place! Virginia is so green, charming, and beautiful!! Great people too! At least on the west side
@Andrea Aleena ::: My aunt worked in housekeeping at Stuart Hall School back in the eighties (I think). It was a boarding school there from eighth to twelfth. She lived outside of Staunton. Anyway, I was like, WOW when I read your comment. So weird.
Thanks for doing this video! I'm from Richmond, Virginia. Around here you’ll find vehicles proudly sporting the “RVA” bumper sticker in abundance. It's unique that it's one of the only cities in the US that has Class III and IV river rapids running right through the downtown. You also forgot to mention Virginia has two major theme parks. Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens Williamsburg.
I went to U of R for a couple of years before transferring to southern methodist university and I really liked Richmond. Besides the West End, what are some good areas to live in?
The tidewater area was ALL Wrong! Unless I’m missing something? The Tidewater and Hampton Roads/7 cities is the same area. There are a ton of 7/11s in VA beach/Norfolk 😂
Loved the video Nick. I grew up in Virginia and lived most of my life in Virginia-minus the first 6 years of my life and 9 years active military service. Grew up in Lynchburg and lived in Norfolk for 31 years. Also I have traveled all around Virginia so much of this video is accurate. I am back in Lynchburg. I'm not happy that Virginia has shifted left in it's politics and we have Northern Virginia, Tidewater, Charlottesville, and other urban areas but much good is happening in my neck of Virginia. Downtown Lynchburg is making a comeback and having Liberty University hasn't hurt although many in Lynchburg may not see it that way. I also like to say that Lynchburg is blessed with no interstate highway.
I have a cousin in Virginia in Lynchburg Virginia that is. I love that town it is a great town and I hope to go visit this next year. They have lived there probably 40 years.❤️ I live in Oregon and the only thing I don't like about that area is the humidity. I don't know how you guys handle it but I guess if you don't know any different. Of course I live out here where it's wet about six months out of the year so I guess it's just the way it goes
@@janettehatcher6138 Came across Lynchburg last year when visiting family in VA - it’s a nice and quaint town! So peaceful and clean, nothing like the big dirty people city where I am now 😭
Absolutely true, Loudoun County in Northern Virginia is the data center capital of the world. 70% of all internet traffic for the world 🌎 goes through this one county. It’s the richest county in the U.S. and one of the snobbiest ones too.
First off real Virginians don’t say we are commonwealth. And as for Northern Virginia , they are just an unofficial part of Maryland . Virginia has no need for Northern Virginia 😆
I've lived in Tidewater Virginia (you had it in the wrong place) and Richmond my entire 60 years and don't even know what a tobacco plant looks like nor even knew cotton ever grew up here. Peanuts, yes. Went to Virgina Tech, half of Techs from NOVA and they always go back home to NOVA. Dad pays the tuition. The other half of us were from somewhere else and built up a lot of student loan debt. Yep lots of drinking, but we graduated, left the Island of Utopia away from the real world and never went back either. You missed Williamsburgs, William and Mary College. Anybody NOT from NOVA, hates NOVA and doesn't even want to go there because of the traffic. The rest of the state is just for Novinians to pass thru on the way somewhere else. If they didn't fly. You can definitely see the change over from red to blue, especially in anywhere urban. That has everything to do with flight from some other states ideals, then transplanting themselves here about, voting for those same ideals ran them off in the first place. Habits hard to die I guess. That and Corporate development spurring transplants. The Virginian hasn't changed much but as they die off, that way of thinking gets diluted into the Newby scheme of things. They're being replaced by the more progressive. Tradition is starting to lose its grip and no longer rules us. Appreciate the Vid!
I love all your videos! I’ve visited 2 states in the last month to consider a job transfer. They were pretty spot on! They help with my research, so thank you for the work you put into them. :)
chicagoakland , We don’t give a sh*t whether he’s pissed or not. Speaking from someone who lives in the suburbs here and know him and wish I didn’t like a lot of us in Central Virginia.
Virginia born here. In the younger days, lived all over the country and people were like, 'You are from Virginia? It so beautiful there." And I be like, yeah I guess, what ever. Then, I moved back and live in the 'charming' Shenandoah Valley. My goodness it's charming and beautiful.
I have lived in Virginia my entire life. Some of this is spot on. But the way you explained Virginia is absolutely a disgrace. There is so much more than the crap you spoke about, it’s sad that this is people’s perception.
Virginia native here. Great video; I really enjoyed it. I do a couple of bones to pick. The area you called Tidewater is actually Southside. Tidewater is an older name for Hampton Roads. Virginia Tech is not Virginia Tech University; it's just Virginia Tech. Its official name is Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Sometimes referred to as VPI. Tobacco was a very important crop throughout Virginia's history. Cotton wasn't. There's a very small area where it can be grown. That would be Southside. It's too cold in the rest of the state. I agree with you that Virginia is more a Mid-Atlantic state rather than a Southern one. I've watched that change in my lifetime. The state is very different than it was when I was a child. I think it's been change for the better although I know a lot of people don't agree. And even though I live in Florida now, Virginia will always be home to me.
Hello Virginia is a commonwealth not a state.People kept telling me that when I moved to VA Beach for 3 1/2 years.I used to work at the Sandbridge Walmart.I loved the beach but I was scared the jets would fly thru my front window leaving Oceana Naval Jet Base.
I look forward to watching this. Lived in Virginia Beach for a year and NoVa for two - they contrasted in so many ways. Absolutely loved NoVa and wish I hadn't left, but the cost of living there is astronomical and getting worse (think CA level). Great employment opportunities there though and so much to do due to its proximity to DC.
Cost of living is pretty high, but to be fair Loudoun and Fairfax County are #1 and #2 in highest median income per household. Hopefully we don't get the crazy taxes CA has that is driving everyone out and leading to huge homeless populations.
@@hazepheno925hopefully not, but they are trying to push out the lower income people here with all gentrification. Rent here is insane. You can’t own an apartment here as a young single. So maybe in a few years it’ll look like Cali
I grew up in Northern Virginia and it really is a different world from the rest of the state. I'll never move back but I'd love to live in Virginia again
I live in Yorktown, Virginia, a few miles from NASA as well as the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. We have hundreds of PhDs and other scientists in Hampton Roads. You left out Busch Gardens (voted "The Most Beautiful Theme Park in the World" for over twenty years) and Water Country USA too. Kings Dominion is not too far from here. We also have Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Christopher Newport University, the College of William & Mary, and the gorgeous Colonial Parkway. I can't remember the last time I saw someone wearing a camouflage outfit, and we're not economically depressed, as expensive homes are everywhere. We even have running water and phones now.
Loved your commentary on my home state! As a Virginia native whose family goes back to the very beginning in Jamestown - I have a special place for this state in my heart! You kind of hit the nail right on the head, I’m from what I like to call the “sweet spot” of the state above Richmond where we are 1 hr from Richmond,1 hr from Charlottesville , and 2 hours from Virginia Beach… we are also the stereotypical family who still has a tobacco farm (we also grow soybeans) 4 generations deep and 200 acres of farmland. Both my Grandparents and my Parents not only sold tobacco to Marlboro (our tobacco is one of the farms included in the Virginia blend) but they all also retired from Philip Morris! Honestly growing up in this state is what first triggered my deep love of history and ended up inspiring me to become a schoolteacher so a lot of the history doesn’t get lost in the next generation.
Yes! Been waiting for this video. As someone who grew up in VA Beach, went to Virginia Tech, and lived in NOVA for 5 years, I’m glad my home state got highlighted. And thanks for the shout out to my alma mater! Let’s Go Hokies!
I’ve lived in VA my whole life. While VA has gone downhill some in the last couple of decades it is is still a beautiful state. Your smart aleck statements are uncalled for.
I’m a Northern Virginia lifer🌸. My kids were all born at Fairfax Hospital, raised in Vienna. Great place in the 80’s 90’s and 2000’s....until NOW. In Vienna- Middle class houses are being torn down and replaced with “Mc Mansions”. Demographics changing drastically/ SNOBBY owners of the 1.5 million $$ homes, YEAH! ....NO MORE small-town charm for Vienna, so sad.
Too funny and so true! I’m a native of Martinsville by that tiny speedway. Went to college at JMU in Harrisonburg ( a college town I was disappointed you didn’t mention btw) and reside in NoVA since graduation. It truly is like two different states and yes southern rural VA detests NoVA folks, mostly due to politics, diversity, and the socioeconomic divide. What you really came up short with in this video is how breathtakingly beautiful VA is from the NoVA wine and horse country to the Shenandoah Valley, the Appalachians and Bay and beachfront. Absolutely gorgeous state!
I was born in Fredericksburg, grew up in Falls Church and now live in Virginia Beach. I am a Virginian through and through. Wouldn't have it any other way.
If that’s the case then if you ever come I would avoid Richmond, it’s like a whole new place and most Virginians outside Richmond are pretty intimidated by it including myself bc I live a calmer suburban area which is actually a lot of Virginia. I would say the best place that I love to go to wind down is prob south hill it’s a pretty small town and very enjoyable
@@aabbccddeeffgghhiijjkkllmm4357 NoVa is fast city life , people are rude and do not have a clue how to drive. The rest of VA is more rural . The people were raised with manners and morals. Basic southern hospitality
I use to live in Virginia, Virginia Beach and Fairfax, now I live in Florida, Orlando area. There are things I miss about Virginia, such as visiting many historic site since I'm a History buff. But there are things I like living here in Florida, like being near Disney World and having more than one choice of beaches to go to. I'm not a mountain boy, so I don't miss those much, though they were pretty to see from a distance. I don't miss the traffic in Northern Virginia, and I laugh when I hear locals here complain about the traffic here which is a breeze, though I do get frusterated when I get caught in it.
Well, I have lived in Virginia most of my like. I left while in the Army for six years. I think you have hit every bad stereotype known in Virginia. While you may mean to say it in satire, it really doesn't come across as that. It comes off as condescending. Any yes, everyone outside NOVA pretty much does hate NOVA.
I live in Virginia and I’m not any of those things...Virginia is a BEAUTIFUL PLACE......If you have children this would be were you would what to raise a family...What I love the most you can in just a short ride you can be at the Beach, or the woods, and see so much history.....I would NEVER what to live anywhere else....
I live in Northern Virginia, I think a large majority are very liberal. I am conservative, I still love living in Virginia. Williamsburg is my favorite College of William and Mary.
I lived in Virginia for 11 years....just west of Roanoke. In all those years, I never heard of--or knew of --any civil war enactments going on. Never heard it discussed either. The Civil War wasn't commonly talked about, actually. I have heard that small groups of people like to dress up occasionally and do these enactments in quite a few states---just as they do in Renaissance Fairs. Some people enjoy historical role-playing. Just saying that this is not a huge thing at all--It appeals to certain small groups of people, and is not commonly known, or participated in by the general public. Also, I never saw that much Camo worn. I see a lot more of it here in Texas, than I ever did in Virginia. To me, the best thing about the state is it's abundance of natural beauty. That really wasn't highlighted here. The Blue Ridge Parkway with it's stunning views, the Shenandoah Valley--Skyline Drive, Chesapeake Bay, etc. THIS is what is etched in your memory when you think of that state. The endless vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This sets it apart from the ordinary.
I'm from Hawaii and all 33 of my family members have now been living between Spotsylvania & Fredericksburg, Virginia for almost a year now and we love it !! If more people, in hawaii, knew about the true nature of Virginia, the population of both Spotsylania & Fredericksburg, Virginia would go up about 100,000 people...lol...it's just so naturally beautiful here without all the artificial stuff that you see in Waikiki and other part of Oahu. We think everything is so cheap here where we live; from the cost of buying a home to the cost of buying a lot to build a house on to the cost of groceries and gas to the cost of going to a really nice water park. Hawaii is in the dumps right now and at least 40% of the island of Oahu's population are jobless which beats out the 1929 Great Depression level of joblessness. We are very happy with Virginia and have no plans on moving back to Hawaii under NO circumstance !! We also found out, quite quickly, that we were not the only native hawaiians here in Virginia. We have met plenty of other Hawaiians that are located here who are NOT in the military! We also have met some Tungans, lots of filipinos, some micronesians, some polynesians and plenty of Samoans, which are all major groups back home in Hawaii(island of Oahu).
Welcome to VA sir. I lived on Oahu for a year for my job, and the cost of living in VA compared to HI is mind blowing. I’m glaring you are liking it here. 🤙
@@garetkun808 Yeah, there is a BIG difference in 'wanting' to go back to hawaii(because of sentimental emotions) versus 'real world' consequences of actually going back !! We are still here in Virginia and life get's better and better by the month. Recently, I saw a youtuber, who was making a youtube video and in the background I saw the elevated mono-rail train pass. He turns around and says, "wow, this is the first time I've seen the train actual move on the rail.."...lol....My point is, this monstrosity of a rail is well over budgeted by a couple billion dollars by now and it will cost the taxpayers big time. Inflation for EVERYTHING will go up big time and "new ways" of taxing people(think charging people, per mile, to drive their cars on the island, even those islands where people are NOT using the mono-rail). Visitors, vacationers alike will be charged extra taxes to stay in their hotel rooms. But, here in Virginia, life is soooooo good...not perfect mind you, but GREAT to a 360 degree level 😝
@@rl2769 it's even more expensive now on Oahu than ever; especially since the new mono-rail way system is now in place. It's billions of dollars over budget. Go figure who will be on the hook for paying for that monstosity? NOT me...lol...but those who are living on those island; even those who are living on the other islands and not on Oahu..lol..
I love Virginia. Its sad you paint it in such a bad light. The people are awesome. We are a multicultural state. There are people from over 130 countries living in my town. That town would be under one of those rebel hats on your map. Our town considers itself progressive and has been for decades. I have four college degrees and have left Virginia to live in other states but kept coming back. The crime rate here is low and we have hiking, fishing, camping, caving, boating and any other outdoor activities you can think of. By the way those "folks who do civil war reinactments" do it for tourism. They are also the people who lost more youth in World War 2. Stop by the World War Two Memorial next time you travel through. People love our Blue Ridge Parkway. Virginia is a beautiful state. I hope living here you will experience the wonders of our state and the friendliness of our residents.
@@woodynorris8224 I went to U of R for a couple of years and I have college friends scattered all over the state. Love your stuff brother, but TIDEWATER is not this area, The Tidewater Region of Virginia, also (called the Coastal Plain Region) received its name because the major rivers that flow through the region rise and fall with the tide from the ocean. The Tidewater is the eastern most region of Virginia. It includes the land along the Chesapeake Bay and the Eastern Shore. AKA Hampton roads
I grew up in Virginia and even though I still love my homestate I can't stand it anymore. Left 8 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made. Never going back there. Yeah it's changing but not for the better. It's lost it's identity over the years. NOVA and the Virginia Beach area are trying to force the whole state to change into something like California. So yeah, Virginia hates NOVA

However when I made this comment I was thinking about everything else from the the destroying of statues to the people fight to change how they teach history in school. I'm not just talking about the Civil War either they are attacking George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. These were all Virginians that should be talked about and not erased. The good and the bad. Thank you for unpacking Virginia after being here about 7 years your breakdown of Virginia kind of helps me as to know where in the state I love to go.
New and progressive isn’t always a good thing nor is staying stuck in the past but I think Virginia has been going through a rough patch for a while and I’m not sure if she’ll ever pick herself back up
I grew up in northern VA, but now that I’ve lived in several other states, realized how good it was there. Beautiful lush greens, historical vibes, clean, low crime rate (in most places), super good shopping mall (Tysons corner), plenty of parking, urban but not too high taxes, etc. I took my husband there to visit and he loved it! I swear someday we will move out of this big liberal city sh*thole that we currently live in.
I lived in Michigan until I was 28 then moved to Big Stone Gap, Virginia in 1985 to work in the gas fields. I grabbed a pen to write down everything you got wrong but you pretty much nailed it. After the War of Northern aggression the carpetbaggers descended on the place mostly from Philadelphia with their strong armed thugs and pushed the local elite off their land and stole 90% of the mineral rights. The elite still prospered even with 10% of their original holdings but the wealth of this area was hauled off and still is even after 145 years. After 35 years my Michigan accent has softened and it is now home. I love the people because they don't fall for all the mainstream media tomfoolery and don't take themselves so seriously and are able to laugh at their own failings. I have a timeshare in Williamsburg and we love experiencing this college town every other year. Good job.
@@dreaming_cthulhu Yes, War of Northern Aggression. That's what Virginians call hundreds of thousands of armed people from other states invading our Commonwealth in an attempt to force Virginians to live the way that they demanded that we live. It's called an invasion.

I grew up in the midwest and I am so thankful I have lived in Virginia most of my adult life. The small towns are charming. Brick streets, and they plant flowers. Some places are very beautiful.
I love Northern Virginia, especially after living in other, more conservative regions. There's lots to do, great restaurants, and even the community colleges are top-notch.
You totally skipped Williamsburg and Yorktown. Tons of history in that area. They also have Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. 2 Great amusement parks to visit.
I’m from NoVa and I love it. There are a lot of entitled jerks that’s true. But I was raised here and it will always feel like home to me. Contrary to popular belief there are nice polite people here too. You just gotta find us. 😉 I like where I live because I feel close to everything: DC, amazing dining and shopping, the mountains are just a couple hours away as well as the beach and lakes, it’s a diverse area with lots different perspectives which I love and there are a lot of interesting people here. ☺️
The sports teams are starting to win in DC. I like the working class population in DC and Baltimore, very friendly, very humble people. Then you get a lot of military people who are very humble. .....Then you get the bubble of elitist and politicians. You know, the ones who complain about not getting into Harvard and Yale. Still, there’s enough people that make it a pleasant place to be.
I've been reading the comments below because we have family coming in from Virginia soon. THANK FREAKING GOOOD I'm from Arizona!!! Been here since '71.
James Madison University in Harrisonburg should have been mentioned as well, as it has become a wildly popular option for potential students living in PA, NJ, NY etc. to get a great education!
Traditional Mid-Atlantic state with historical landmarks, northern Virginia is part of the DC area a newly develop area. Virginia Beach and Williamsburg are vacation destination. Virginia has Kings Domination and Busch Gardens, and the college towns of Blacksburg and Charlottesville. Can you do Washington DC, Maryland, Connecticut and Massachusetts next?
There’s diversity throughout the state, with many cultural influences from early Native American, Scotch-Irish, German, & French. Aside from Camo……Chapstick, Vaccination Needles (you’re welcome), the microphone, swivel chairs, Edison’s Vitascope to show motion pictures, and countless other things have been invented in the state. Home to Williamsburg, William & Mary the 2nd oldest college, Arlington National Cemetery first successful electric streetcars, first President along with several others, first Thanksgiving, first “Witch” (yes even that). Blacksburg has a huge population of Virginia Tech students who have graduated only to return and make it their home, as well as being nationally recognized among the best places to retire, raise a family, safest towns, and their public schools also some of the best as well. Not to mention the military schools in Virginia being among some of the best in the country. Their are many corporate headquarters for companies like Hilton, Airbus, Mars, General Dynamic, and the Salvation Army located here. You mentioned the Pentagon, but its also home to the headquarters of the CIA, FBI, Department of Energy, the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center (which everyone should learn about), the Marine Corps & Navy. Virginia is considered one of the most essential building blocks in the creation of our country, and is still essential for it’s stability………you’re welcome. We were the first English Colony, the end of the revolutionary and civil wars were here. The world’s internet capital is here; Ashburn is a key hub for the world's internet traffic, boasting hundreds of data centers and housing a significant portion of the global network's connectivity. Almost ALL of the internet traffic travels through it. So yeah, I could keep going for a few more hours about the rest of the state; but you should do more honest and informative video of all the great things Virginia is and has to offer. “Rednecks” are not the mainstays of Virginia. The people here are much more than that of a tasteless stereotype, they are amazing people with amazing stories and backgrounds. You couldn’t handle the workloads that many of these people perform daily, so it’s funny that you would generalize them….Maybe your video should be renamed to “A Stereotypical Video About A State That I Was Too Lazy To Research & Just Made Assumptions About Instead.”

I used to live in VA and regret leaving, it is so beautiful and there is so much history. We wld spend almost every weekend visiting different historical sites.

Don't tell people that. We don't need more outsiders moving here.

Real Virginians: "We're a Commonwealth."
Northern Virginians: "We're just wealthy. You're common."

Absolutely true, Loudoun County in Northern Virginia is the data center capital of the world. 70% of all internet traffic for the world 🌎 goes through this one county. It’s the richest county in the U.S. and one of the snobbiest ones too.
What is with West Virginia? appalachian?
The lawn is really rich. It turns gray quickly. You are all welcome in the hinterland. The people have little meat. But Tubacoluse clinics!
Does this mean I love Virginia? ♥️🏴♥️VA ⛰️🐎

Accurate

Great employment opportunities there though and so much to do due to its proximity to DC.
Cost of living is pretty high, but to be fair Loudoun and Fairfax County are #1 and #2 in highest median income per household. Hopefully we don't get the crazy taxes CA has that is driving everyone out and leading to huge homeless populations.

I agree, having been born and raised in SW VA, I never heard about Civil War reenactments. More of that goes on around Lexington or Appomattox though.
The closer you get to Appomattox and Spotsylvania you'll see more Civil War reenactments

@@garetkun808 Yeah, there is a BIG difference in 'wanting' to go back to hawaii(because of sentimental emotions) versus 'real world' consequences of actually going back !! Fredericksburg is slowly becoming a nova suburb at this point, which I think is great, except the prices of everything going up a lot
@@marcobazan4187 Very high prices, yes
Grew up in Fredericksburg. It's kind of the borderlands of NoVa these days. And the traffic is HORRENDOUS
ENJOYED THE MAPPY ANIMATION VERY MUCH. YOU DONE EXCELLENT ON HISTORY AND PRESENT FOLKS. YOUR SINGING KEEPS ME LAUGHING. THANKS NICK.
STOP YELLING IT IS VERY RUDE
Memestealer YOURE YELLING TOO
lived in virginia for over a decade and i didn't even know Lee-Jackson Day was a thing until the state made it not a thing anymore 2 days ago lmao
Until recently Virginia has always been proud of its history, the good and the bad
@@BorninVirginia well Virginia now is inclusive for all. Its good we switched Lee-Jackson Day for Election Day for state govt workers.
@@patxepi I'm actually ok with this, I think they should both be a holiday, but if they had to choose this is the best option. I know he's not a Virginian, but they just tore down a statue of Abraham Lincoln. This destroying of our history needs to stop.
It was Lee Jackson King Day for a few years, which I thought was pretty ironic. MLK won the day.
@@BorninVirginia
Ah, I don't think we should be proud of all of our history that's insane. It's important to remember lee and Jackson but be proud of? I don't think so.
Born in Southwestern part of Va. 1963. 15 to 20 minutes from NC line. Love and miss the mountains. Lived this later half of my life in SC. Since I moved, the politics has went to blazes. But love my mountain people. They are skiddish about new folk. But, they’ll be there for you. Beautiful place to live!
Current NC transplant to NoVA. You were spot on with NoVA!
We really are boujee up here, aren't we?? 😅😅
Lmao both my parents work for the gov and when people ask where I’m from I say DC
You showed the New River Valley Gorge bridge in WVA, different state.
Yeah I'm from tazewell county. I wondered if anyone else caught that.
Exactly
Love watching your videos, no false information about countries, thanks 💖
Ok Chandra!
Thank you for unpacking Virginia after being here about 7 years your breakdown of Virginia kind of helps me as to know where in the state I love to go.
Ok Mario!
I have spent a countless amount of time in blacksburg and your description is spot on
New and progressive isn’t always a good thing nor is staying stuck in the past but I think Virginia has been going through a rough patch for a while and I’m not sure if she’ll ever pick herself back up
I live in Virginia this was great. However I would consider Lynchburg with Liberty University a college town also
yes.
@Based Shaud some dude's name. not lynching, although there is a movement to change the name, understandably
Richmond is very much a college town as well.
Harrisonburg is a college town as well with JMU.
@Adolf Shitler Lol no one asked but thanks for your input
I grew up in northern VA, but now that I’ve lived in several other states, realized how good it was there. Beautiful lush greens, historical vibes, clean, low crime rate (in most places), super good shopping mall (Tysons corner), plenty of parking, urban but not too high taxes, etc. I took my husband there to visit and he loved it! I swear someday we will move out of this big liberal city sh*thole that we currently live in.
That’s what Northern Virginia is now . A lot has changed in the last 10 years
❤️irginia is definitely a awesome State.
I live in Covington VA .Allegheny Highlands. The closing song is showing Covington passing library community center credit union approaching paper mill
Born in Fredericksburg and live in Richmond. After 45 years.....I still like it here :)
Good job.
Hey Thomas!
Amen!
“War of northern aggression”???
@@dreaming_cthulhu Yes, War of Northern Aggression. That's what Virginians call hundreds of thousands of armed people from other states invading our Commonwealth in an attempt to force Virginians to live the way that they demanded that we live. It's called an invasion.
I grew up in Nova, had family in the Shenandoah, parents and sister went to Tech, went to college in the tobacco/cotton land, dated a girl in Richmond, lived in the tidewater for a summer, and now live right next to DC. This video is hilariously accurate
dang you've been around!
Does this mean you love Va ? ♥️🏴♥️VA⛰️🐎
I live in the shanandoah area
@@NickJohnson Speaking of weather! There are places in Canada that historically enjoy warmer winters than Richmond (Data source is NOAA - a US government agency!).
So please copy/paste the following google searches (using specifically Google’s search engine!) and average all 6 numbers for each location…
1. Richmond, Virginia average winter temperatures
2. Race Rocks, Canada average winter temperatures
Are you surprised by the fact the winters are warmer in Race Rocks, Canada than Richmond, Virginia?
Hey in Virginia Beach we use 711 for landmarks, ( turnright at the 711 next to the McDonalds and the bank). Only people from VB will understand this joke
Omg🤣
It gain me more knowledge about Virginia even I ve been Virginian over a decade
I grew up in the midwest and I am so thankful I have lived in Virginia most of my adult life. The small towns are charming. Brick streets, and they plant flowers. Some places are very beautiful.
Anyone else from northern VA, but actually likes living here, even though there could be places better than the lifestyle here?
I live in the shanandoah area
I love living in NoVa ☺️ I could do without the traffic and construction everywhere but overall I love it here.
Yess
living in nova is amazing. The problem is the rest of the states hates us so much were convinced it sucks here....
I love Northern Virginia, especially after living in other, more conservative regions. There's lots to do, great restaurants, and even the community colleges are top-notch.
People criticizing this video are only further proving how much of a true Virginian they really are. I laughed so hard reading them tho.
Really omg are you from here cause we’re I come from in a small town of western va we are nothing like he said
You totally skipped Williamsburg and Yorktown. Tons of history in that area. They also have Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. 2 Great amusement parks to visit.
I have lived in Hampton Roads and Prince William County for almost 20 years now. I love Virginia.
I'm straight out of 703 Alexandria, and I wish I had been raised there more!! 🙏🏿😭😭
My roommate's cousin has lived in Floyd County for years and loves every minute of it.
I live in northern virginia and I wish I lived in the blue ridge mountains in virginia dc sucks frfr
Fr
The sports teams are starting to win in DC. I like the working class population in DC and Baltimore, very friendly, very humble people. Then you get a lot of military people who are very humble.
.....Then you get the bubble of elitist and politicians. You know, the ones who complain about not getting into Harvard and Yale.
Still, there’s enough people that make it a pleasant place to be.
It sucks here there is a bunch of trump living yeehaws
DC sucks and should be a state
Man I feel u
I'm Virginian through and through. I've been to a lot of places in the US and beyond and would never consider living anywhere else.
When you talked about northern VA I DIED!!! Also- idek who told you there fixing up Portsmouth. They’re not- 💀
i mean the general area.
How would you know sugar pants? You live in Portsmouth? I'm betting that you don't.
Portsmouth def getting fixed up a little
@@Bigkingfish I hope they fix those damn roads.
Grew up in Portsmouth. And yes. It is indeed getting fixed... Slowly, but surely
Can you do Washington DC, Maryland, Connecticut and Massachusetts next?
eventually, yes.
LOVE LOVE YOUR VIDS. The best, Keep them coming , thanks.
Finally a face to pair up with the voice. The song was to die for. I was looking forward to a commercial from Cutz Barbershop.
Virginia is BLUE state since 2008, northern now extends to at least Fredricksburghs I've lived here all my life 57yrs born Ft. Belvoir military base Fairfax, VA lived in Alexandria City, Arlington County, Fairfax County, VA one few States were a City doesnt have be a part of a County I went to T.C. Williams H.S. Lived most of my life in NOVA, thank God I finally got smart and moved to Virginia. Well, NOVA was OK until about the 90s.
So funny!! 😂 I’ve lived in Virginia for a long time now and you hit every piece of land just right!! Very accurate! Love your videos 🎉
I am from CA and found Virginia to be wholesome and refreshing. Real people. I feel most of your comments to be derogatory.
western part of the state is pretty incredible and some awesome lovely people, im australian and went to university of richmond in the seventies, richmond is interesting too but the country folk were so kind..shout out from australia 😐

Grew up in Norfolk, lived many years in Nova, and bought a house in Hampton Roads area recently--but, oh, I miss the country around Fauquier and Culpeper counties. Very much old school Virginia and so beautiful.
Yep
I used to live in Fairfax VA, now moved to NJ. Definitely I enjoy the life in VA, eventhough NJ isn't too bad either.
Fairfax is barely real Virginia
Hey Ray I did the opposite I lived in New Jersey moved to Fairfax VA years ago due miss some of it but enjoy where I am now.
Henry Schumacher northern NJ feels like Fairfax to me, with its proximity to big city and landscape.
This is quite literally made my entire life better. This is the funniest thing I think I've ever ever seen in my entire life and it's so apropos. I love the part where it says mountains, separate the great barrier between the cousins but you didn't go into RICHMOND in the suburb of HENRICO. COUNTY is a mess.
