Thanks! Yeah the spark plugs and thermostat and impeller are done on a 300hr or 3 year service . They also recommended replacing the belt as well. Thanks for watching and commenting
Great video. My linkage does not have the little white cap that you show during the fuel filter change segment. Anyone have any ideas on if this part is needed or where to obtain a replacement?
Thanks! I’m glad you liked the video and it was helpful! You can definitely take it to a local Mercury certified shop and have them look it over and get a print out off the diagnostic computer . Make sure it’s good.. not a bad idea.. boats are definitely a big investment. Thanks for watching the video and commenting! Let me know if you have any questions.. love to help out anyway I can ..
I would inspect it every service and replace if worn .. I would just buy one and use it if needed.. if not keep it till next time! Thanks for watching and commenting
You can as long as it’s mercury or quicksilver brand .. but the only engines that actually require it and they are blends at that.. are verados and Inboards with Catalysts .. we just run Conventional oil unless required.. thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions..
Great video! When you grease the points on the motor and trailer, what type of grease do you use? I have a tube of lucas marine grease. Is that ok to use on everything including the wheel hubs? Thank you
Just do a the proper maintenance and keep good fuel in it try to use fuel with no or little ethanol.. no more then 10% and use a good fuel treatment that lowers ethanol and stabilizes the fuel and is for marine use.. most running issues come from lack of Maintenance and fuel issues.. thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.. tight lines
In the shop at the Ford dealership we call Fram oil filters “The orange can of death” because literally 7 out of 10 engine seizures coming in on the hook have them on.
So mercury recommends storing them vertically for the trim assembly and also so any water will drain and not be trapped in the gear case .. especially in winter due to freezing.. but if you have it in a slip at a marina it’s better to have it fully tilted up and on the rest support.. thanks for watching and commenting..
I buy 2 quarts but it only takes about one .. but I like to keep pumping to basically flush any old oil out that didn’t drain.. so I use about 1 and a quarter quarts in a service.. thanks for watching
New subscriber and new soon to be owner of 2014 150hp Merc. Quite a jump from a 60hp. ;-) Great video. Very well produced! It really helps me prepare for my new acquisition. Does the 150 have only the one fuel filter? My 60hp has 2. Also, could you provide information on where to find the oil can and the oil filter wrench? I didn't see any links in the description for any of the items you mentioned being there.
I always find your videos informative lol! With the minor design changes Mercury always makes to their engines for maintenence re oil catches, fluid plugs etc. ( my 2012 has the 3 plug lower unit oil) which is your favorite change? Thanks for the vids!
Yep I will put that on the list of videos to shoot.. I might have one on the channel somewhere I can’t remember off the top of my head. Thanks for watching
I noticed my oil smelled like fuel and was on the high side. 22 hours on the motor lots of no wake zones so I rarely get on it. How do I remedy this? Can I go out and drive around at higher RPM to reduce the fuel in the oil or just change out the oil? I plan on winterizing it end of next month so I will be doing the 100hour service then.
You want to get the oil out and put fresh in.. then go somewhere where you can run it hard and finish your break in .. if you were never able to get into higher rpm’s it isn’t fully broken in yet.. let me know if you have any questions.. and thanks for watching
Where is the links. I click on show more and I don't see it. Only sites to follow you on other platforms. I can not find the snapon oil funnel anywhere on the internet.
Hey and thanks for the great video. I’m from Germany and I had to replace the white plastic ring but no body knows this ring here in Germany so maybe you can give me the part number . Thank you so much
Hey bruh, for us “visual learners” would you consider a video regarding the newer Mercury 75, 90 and 115hp spark plug change? Specifically the removal of the number-4 plug, which is the most difficult to remove and re-install…🤬 P.S. Love-your-videos… 🛥🔧
No only the bigger motors have the option to be DTS digital throttle and shift. And the new v6 v8 s can be mechanical to the motor then digital from there. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it!
As always you make it so easy to understand and don't rush through it. Thanks
Your video convinced me to take it to a dealer for the service. Thanks!
His video made me realize i will never pay a service tech to do something so simple.
It's as easy as it could be.
Such an awesome video. Keep up the good work. Just bought a new boat and plan on doing the maintenance myself. This will definitely help me out a lot.
Awesome! Congratulations on the new boat! Glad the video will help out and save you some cash! Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it!
Thank you! A very informative video for the engine. Only thing missing is replacing the spark plugs, and no 4 is a pita!
Thanks! Yeah the spark plugs and thermostat and impeller are done on a 300hr or 3 year service . They also recommended replacing the belt as well. Thanks for watching and commenting

Every 3 years or 300 hrs whichever comes first.. glad you liked the video.. thanks for watching and commenting.
Great video. My linkage does not have the little white cap that you show during the fuel filter change segment. Anyone have any ideas on if this part is needed or where to obtain a replacement?
Great video. We're considering buying a used boat with a newer Mercury 150. Sure wish you were close by to check it out for us.
Thanks! I’m glad you liked the video and it was helpful! You can definitely take it to a local Mercury certified shop and have them look it over and get a print out off the diagnostic computer . Glad the video was helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it!
How often should you inspect and or replace the bore sleeve?
I would inspect it every service and replace if worn .. I would just buy one and use it if needed.. if not keep it till next time! Thanks for watching and commenting
Could you send me the link for that Mercury hour meter ? Thank you . Great video
I know this is getting to be older but where did you get your oil jug from???
Does the same apply to Honda motors?
I would recommend doing the same service for all marine engines.. 100 hrs or one year whichever comes first..
@@ReelLifeFisherman what is your charge to service provided if you will?
Cool Video! Informative video for the DIY !!! Thank You!!!!
Thanks ! Glad you liked it and found it helpful.. thanks for watching and commenting..
Can you run full synthetic oil in mercury motors or do you need conventional?
You can as long as it’s mercury or quicksilver brand .. but the only engines that actually require it and they are blends at that.. are verados and Inboards with Catalysts .. we just run Conventional oil unless required.. thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions..
Great video very detailed. Congratulations!
Great video👍

Like always good vid bud , thanks

What about fuel lines-I heard they can deteriorate inside and if not replaced may result in dropping rpm.
It’s a good idea to replace the fuel lines after about 5 years or so.. they can go bad especially if the boat sits in the sun even sooner .
Great video 👍🏽
Thank you! Glad it was helpful thanks for watching and commenting!
Excellent instruction, good info, thanks!!
Hey bud, I have a Smokercraft with a 2019 Yamaha 90. Anything I need to look out for?
Just do a the proper maintenance and keep good fuel in it try to use fuel with no or little ethanol.. no more then 10% and use a good fuel treatment that lowers ethanol and stabilizes the fuel and is for marine use.. most running issues come from lack of Maintenance and fuel issues.. thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.. tight lines
Any real differences between the 150 and 200? Needing to do the first 20hour on my new boat. Great channel!
What is the bore sleeve part number?? I have the same exact motor.
In the shop at the Ford dealership we call Fram oil filters “The orange can of death” because literally 7 out of 10 engine seizures coming in on the hook have them on.
🤣 thats funny! thanks for watching and commenting
Yup, Fram=engine noise and failure!
Why do u need to store your boat motor trimmed all the way down opposed to up right what can go wrong if store it upright
So mercury recommends storing them vertically for the trim assembly and also so any water will drain and not be trapped in the gear case .. especially in winter due to freezing.. but if you have it in a slip at a marina it’s better to have it fully tilted up and on the rest support.. thanks for watching and commenting..
Curious what made you go with 10w-30 vs 25w-40 synthetic blend. I know both are approved. I went with 25w-40. Really don’t know which is best.
if in a warm climate go 25w-40, and if in cold go 10w-30
How much gear oil do you need to fill for your gear case.
I buy 2 quarts but it only takes about one .. but I like to keep pumping to basically flush any old oil out that didn’t drain.. so I use about 1 and a quarter quarts in a service.. thanks for watching
@@ReelLifeFisherman Thank you for your quick reply,
thank s for the video keep em coming! I noticed you filled engine with 10w30? is 25w40 ok as well?
Here in Brazil Mercury recommends and sells only 25W40 oil We don't have 10W30 option.
Thank you buddy appreciate it I come to you again soon
No problem Oleg! Thanks for watching and commenting

Stop pumping gear oil when it flows out, then wait a few minutes and pump again. No need to flush a lot of expensive oil 🙂
