This brings me back to the days of AM Radios with telescopic antennas , Mechanical Speed Controls, NiCad batteries and RC Car Action Magazine. I started racing in 88-89 with a Wild Willy, and a Blackfoot, but all the big dogs had a RC-10 truck conversion. Brings back a lot of fond memories of running oval in a roller rink. Thanks for the trip back to RC racing's infancy, and yes I'm still a racer, having more fun than ever. You definitely earned a sub based on this video alone.

Your story is almost exactly like mine, I can relate to everything. I almost had an rc10 also. It was a 50/50 chance, as my dad would buy me one or the other. I was not there, so it was not my choice, but he chose the losi. I know now it was the best pick, oh the road it started me on. Modify this, buy that, so addictive. I remember paying the ups driver cod, right down to the penny. So much money, funded by my band job. In all, I own over $10.000 in rc after all these years. My first car was a frog, but it really started with my jrx2 original. I will always be a losi guy at heart.

Great video man! I recently fixed up our old RC10 T3. Pulled it out of the closet and got it running again. It was my dads, it’s over 20 years old. And now, functioning and getting ripped around again! Got me hooked again. Just ordered one of those new mini Losi jrx2!

Sweet! I picked up my mini JrX2 yesterday. I of course went with the Pro paint scheme.

Love it, this was my first car also. The only issue I have with your vintage electronics is the Deans connector. We didn’t know there was anything better than our Tamiya connectors. :-)

I still have my childhood Jrxpro. It’s updated to the latest brushless systems. I run it all the time. Still is a great runner compared to today’s buggy’s.
Wish I still had the box tho.
    Great video 👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks! I had both a Pro and ProSE setup for my track. My Pro needs a rear suspension arm hinge pin. I used to get my parts from Sabula Tech but they stopped shipping to the Great White North.

I remember my first race kit. I had the original jrx2 the one with the full carbon laminate chassis before it went to the carbon fiber laminate. Ran it stock for about 6 months . Walked in my local race track and found the all black box jrx pro conversion kit . Bought it and I was hooked. The conversion was almost the full kit minus the rear shocks I want to say

I enjoyed your video. I subscribed and will be watching. I just purchased the Losi Jrx2 and it kind of looks like the buggy in your video so, I clicked on. Have a goog weekend. 👍

great story! i bought my first jrx2 from a writer for radio control car action. i had a traxxas bullet as my the car prior and it sucked. i luckily as a 14 year old kid at the time had a dad who was equally into it, and several great local hobby shops. parts were never an issue. i eventually bought a pro-se, then got my license and real cars became the priority.

Good work! Love the stories! After a few years of competitive touring car racing I started looking at the camber links on the vintage cars in a entirely different way. So cool you pointed out that we gave little care about that back in the day.

Loved the Jr's Choice BITD, 17x2 7-cell in truck was great! Funny, my first hobby grade RC car was an RC10 but to make it competitive (at least at our track) most everything needed to be changed. The JRX2 was fantastic right out of the box and my RC10 went on the shelf lol

That is one SWEET kit there man. Had several JRX buggies growing up. Wish I still had my LXT w/3 gear trans. That thing was a TANK.

My first RC car kit had a mechanical speed controller without a BEC so I ended up using both the servos as well as the battery box that came with my Futaba Attack II.
The JRX Pro was my first race-grade RC car as well. I wanted an RC10 and it would have been the sensible choice as there was local support for it but a new kit was too expensive so I got a used Team Losi instead.
I also think the JRX was the superior car and the old gold pan had been obsolete since the turn of the decade but TA had the best drivers and the cars were modified heavily to keep winning. In 1995, they created something that became even more successful for a longer time (I count the B3 and B4 as iterations of the same car) even if it doesn’t have the iconic status of the OG. So Asso came back with a buggy that was modern and competitive out of the box.
I got back into RC after a long hiatus and I’m driving Team Associated cars now: the B74.2 and an RB10 that I built from a DR10 kit and equipped with a Penguin B4 Repo body.
I remember my JRX Pro and ’94 YZ-10 with great fondness but I have no interest in hunting for expensive NOS stuff with a constant worry about breaking something I can’t replace with reasonable effort so the RB10 is retro enough for me. If you sent one 25 years back in time people wouldn’t blink an eye, they would think it’s just a metric experimental B2/B3 from Asso. If you sent a B74.2 back in time people wouldn’t know which way to look at it and who even made the damn thing.
The rivalry between Team Associated and Team Losi reached the ass-end of Europe as well. In the ’90s, the local way of pronouncing it was ”Team Lousy”. Sadly, I didn’t have the skills and resources to fully exploit the potential of the JRX Pro so I was never able to prove them wrong.

You in Ontario? Able to remember the name of the hobby shop 4 hrs away from your house as a kid? I'm located in Toronto and have a nice little vintage 2wd collection. Keep the vintage content coming :)

I had a choice between AYK Bobcat or Hotshot. I choose Bobcat. Mistake. Got some Team Associated buggy and T2 truck now. I remember them jrx2s. Nice kit.

C'mon, the real reason radios came with two servos back then was because there were still quite a few cars in that era that still used the mechanical resistance speed control. 😁 Yeah, I remember - ESC's were still a luxury back then - at least until the late 80's. I used to have an original RC10 myself. Later upgraded to the CE parts, tried the RC10 Graphite chassis (didn't like it), then finally went back to updated tub chassis (with holes for the Stealth transmission in Black, but put in a Team Pit Stop chain drive transmission, which was pretty awesome.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Oddly enough, after 20 years away, I have TLR buggies now, haha! Bought the 5.0 DC Elite, then the 22X-4 right when they released.

Ha so true! I forgot to mention mechanical speed controls! I used to toss the kyosho ones and replace them with Tamiya ones! Funny how you switched to TLR and I switched to AE!

You think those RCs you have are going to be a problem?
I thought for sure that my servo would've been toast for sitting for almost 30 years and locked up or whatever but no, everything works great. I picked up a new speed controller, radio and battery and it's amazing 🤩
I really need to get some new tires though. This rubber is so hard.

@TeeDohJackson i think everything will be fine. I have a couple of vintage radios, chargers, ESC's. So far, all are fine. My runners always get new brushless stuff though

I'm still running the old brushed motor I put in from the mid 90's but it's insanely fast and way faster than I remember it. Do you think that since I upgraded from the Nickel CAD battery to a LiPo it would increase the speed that much or am I just misremembering?

so far that I know. Im holding down the speed record of 58mph on this chassis
