I also appreciated how Val was not a stereotypical mean girl like so many other movies do. She’s actually very kind, approachable and mature. It’s a good lesson that just because someone is cool or popular doesn’t automatically make them mean or shallow.

That probably the most outlandish part of this movie

Hearing her say the things about being an adult that aren't just like happy and wow so amazing, but like normal things an adult can do that a child simply can't, and ending it with "i may not be joyous, but i'm consistently stable!", that just made me very happy.

Of course, that's clearly a subjective and not the former from being privilege biased.

My friend was really excited when she saw the "secret" reveal. She immediately told me the rug burning was a covered up way of saying Riley smoked.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I really liked this movie more than the first one. It’s funny that both films pretty much have a similar setup and conclusion, but what makes Inside Out 2 more emotionally impactful for me is the execution of its story and characters. This sequel commits to a more stable balancing act between Riley’s plot and the plot with her emotions, Anger and Fear and Disgust truly feel like important members in the ensemble instead of just existing with Joy and Sadness, and I adore this movie’s message of embracing the complex and confusing emotions that we feel, but not letting them completely define us for who we are. Human emotions are extremely layered and a lot more mysterious than some would think, and I think Inside Out 2, just like its predecessor, was able to portray that in a way that’s palatable for audiences of every age to understand.

I think when something or someone vanishes in the Memory Dump, they are completely forgotten. So if Joy did draw Bing-Bong, Riley would have no clue what she was looking at. Kinda like memories we has as babies but can't remember as adults.
Another answer about the core memories in the first film as to why Joy didn't let the mind workers send them back to headquaters was because Joy didn't want the other emotions touching them. Or else they might turn angry, fearful or disgusted. I think Pete Doctor said something in an interview when someone asked.

To be, I think Bing Bong will and should always remain gone. Because to me, he’s a representation of growing up. As we grow up, we’ll forget things we created during our childhood or stuff we did. Bing Bong was sent to the pit where he’s forgotten, and making him reappear just makes his sacrifice worthless.

Loved this movie! I really dig the way the dynamic between Envy and Anxiety is handled- the way Envy is this perfect Yes Woman whose admiration translates to uncritical emulation, which in turn stops Anxiety from reflecting and slowing down in moments where she might have otherwise.

Personally I feel like the movie didn’t earn a lot of Joy moments. There are like 3 scenes with Joy acting defeated or overwhelmed but nothing built to them. Oh also 15:19 ..I REALLY thought when sadness went up the tube- she was gonna fail and fall- showing why they didn’t do that in the first movie 😂😂

  • @Rexvils
    @Rexvils 6 місяців тому +9

Fun little headcanon I came up with you mentioned Joy’s live commentary bit, you could rationalize that as your inner voice giving you motivation or a pep-talk during that moment.
That’s really how I rationalize the emotions referring to themselves and Riley as the collective “We”. It’s like Riley’s inner-consciousness voicing her thoughts through the emotions. “We’re doing great!” “Mom and dad are watching us fail…” “That mouthguard isn’t ours!”
To me it gives some of that agency back to Riley because it makes it so that she’s speaking through the emotions instead of the emotions speaking for her. It’s why Sadness felt a need to touch the core emotions in the first film, why Joy was called to the console in the second.

inside out 2 is a blessing. it's a sequel that deserves to exist AND succeeds in expanding upon and living up to the original. it also proves that you don't have to be bawling your eyes out for a piece of media to have emotionally violated you and torn you to shreds

Thank goodness, somebody said it. It’s good, but that’s because it’s exactly the same movie.
I also love that you brought attention to the fact that they prioritise action sequences rather than world building, which could’ve easily made the movie feel different enough from the first one.

  • @salmascreativitypen4489

I honestly think the reason why we don’t see the adults other emotions is because emotions like anxiety, ennui, and etc, become more manageable once we get older and find stability. On the contrary, I’m reading way too much into this ”detail” and it’s just a writing mistake.

  • @Keith_Norman

Honestly I thought Riley was going to have a heart attack or a stroke the way anxiety kept pushing her which I think would have been a very interesting dilemma because comparing this to the first movie; someone that's nervous about their future versus someone who likes their last home way more that they were going to decide to run away was kind of a downgrade in terms of scale.

Inside Out is one of my favourite Pixar movies and this movie lived up to its sequel potential! I loved the inclusion of Anxiety and how they continued to give layers and nuance to each emotion’s purpose. I also loved that they gave Riley more of a character in this one. The wit and humour were as sharp as ever. Reminded me of the classic Pixar I grew up loving. Great review

I....Actually like the danger of the brain, Metaphorically i mean, Because there is so many people that just Act as if they lack an emotion, in real life i mean. You know what i mean, the one person that refuses to ever be sad, the person that genuinely doesnt get anger. I like the idea that you are doing a great job with your emotions cause keeping all of them intact is kinda hard

i honestly like how riley was such an asshole for part of the movie but at the end of the day she’s still a loveable character. a lot of teens act like assholes and that doesn’t make them bad people, i for sure did. it’s very realistic.

I think the point of them not sending the memories back to the headquarters through the tube's, is what if another emotion were to grab one and it turns that emotion like what happened when sadness touched it? Idk I feel like it's still a minor plot hole that could have been addressed but it's kind of subtext.

Inside Out 2 honestly surprise me on how I felt about it even happening in the first place and might be one of favorite movies of the year. Is it better than Inside Out? No, Not really but it didn't really need to be. There is a good and messy things that balance each other that makes it a great flim that Pixar hasn't made in awhile in my opinion. Anxiety is the best character

You would've loved the SS Brainfart subplot that was cut from the movie. In the IO2 concept art book, there were plans for an area in Riley's inner world called Epiphany Bay with a port town where mind workers fished for ideas (instead of having ideas come from brain storms in the final movie). It was a town where mind workers lived and worked as fishers, they and had a fish (idea) market economy, and overall it felt more like a living environment than any other headword area in both movies. From what's seen in the art book, it wasn't going to be an action-focused section of the movie, as instead Joy and the other emotions hung out with a small crew of mind workers on a little boat who fished for Riley's "bad" ideas, where Joy would learn that Riley's not-so-good memories that she chucked in the back were still of worth to Riley.
I cannot for the life of me understand why this was cut, other than constraints like it was too long or it was overbudget to make. I think all of that would've been more interesting than the brain storm scene in the final movie.

I hated that ppl on TikTok were saying that Riley’s friends were fake and jealous! Like no! They reacted appropriately, Riley was being fake to get new friends, I’ve lied abt myself to try and befriend multiple popular kids but I knew it was a lie and I eventually gave up on it, but Riley’s friends are not the fake ones,

I don't think the movies have the same story for the emotions. yes there are things similair but there are definitely new and creative ideas added to it. for example yes they leave headquarters again but this time it's Joy with the other three while they send Sadness back to secretly work on a plan. they also show off new ideas like you said the vault of secrets, brainstorm, sarchasm, and the back of the mind. they probably could have made it work if all the emotions stayed in the building but i feel like that would have made it a lot more boring possibly.
Also i do theorize that other emotions in the brains of the adults have their own rooms and only show up when they are needed while the main cast stays at the console. it makes sense and also doesn't create the problem of it being too crowded.

In terms of the lore stuff you mentioned, it would be interesting to know but I don't think it would rlly add to the movie in terms of themes or message. It might bloat the movie (which is already rushed as long as it is) so it'd prob be better as extra content not within the movie itself

I like this movie a lot more than the first one it someone that's trying to find their way through life in the present while also worrying about the future and the past a bit better than other children movies. I really like the fact that more of the rest of the emotions gets time to shine because the last movie was more about joy and sadness but now it's about every emotion plus Riley and I really like the point of the movie where every emotion bad happy and good thing that happens to you is well you and how that we're all very complex

The only things I wanna mention that were thoughts that I had while watching it were A the throwaway joke of nostalgia come back in 10 years I'm 18 and I have A LOT of nostalgia just a dumb thing where nostalgia can be at any age it just gets more of an emotion over time and B the portrait in Joys little sleepy cubby has picture of Bing Bong witch implies that she COULD reactivate the memory or possibly revive him but maybe doesn't know how yet or thought just hasn't occurred
