This is my childhood right here!! Third generation firefighter and I grew up with Smokey Bear!
When I was little, my dad helped out with the Smokey the Bear parade! He would ask the guy who played Smokey to find me in the crowd and give me a hug so I wouldn’t cry! 🥲🥲😊😊
I never knew that until I grew up....I still hold those memories close to my heart. ❤️❤️

You know I grew up during this time and isn’t it a shame that everything that we had in the 50’s to the 70’s is totally gone now. And often mocked. I miss those days before cellphones and computers

If it was not for our times, there would not be today! It was our times that shaped our world and these things will always be around for us to still enjoy if we seek them out. We can teach our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren about games we played as a game and you never know they might just like some of those games. Remember Red Light Green Light, Simon Says, Tag (You're it!), Dodgeball, Hopscotch, Jacks, Four Square, Hide and Go Seek, etc? The things of the past I love, as it was a simpler time with less stress for children. Sadly technology has made life more stressful for our children.
I went back to college and found that because of our technology things were more complicated for our college students! More demands and responsibilities than we had back in the 1980's and 1990's! Then the colleges wonder why children of today's day and age commit suicide. Sadly the year I went back a girl committed suicide on the college campus. Too many demands that make up too much stress for our students today!
Honestly I feel lucky to have lived when I had and grew up when I did. They can make fun of our time all they want, because I know it was the best of times.
I have owned a cellular phone since 1989 and honestly I see them as long leashes! No, privacy of time for ourselves as it used to be. Remember what company was in existence before it was Verizon? I do, it was US West Cellular, which I miss! I thought that the new company who bought it was named Horizon, until I saw their name in writing a few weeks later. Lol I hated Verizon back then!
So let us remember, never forget and share our childhood experiences with our family's new generations. You never know, they just might like some of the things from our days. I love the things of my father's time from as far back as the 1930's till I was born.
One day things of today we all will be making fun of, but we must remember without those things we would not have the things we have of today! Remind these young generations of this for those things of our days paved the way for us to have things of today! I am proud of it! Don't let them forget it!

Learned about Smokey Bear when I was a kid in the 50's. We camped at National Parks and at campfires with a ranger, sometimes Smokey showed up to entertain the kids and tell them about preventing forest fires. I knew it was a man in a bear suit, but I sure was a fan. Later I got a stuffed bear. He was dressed up just like the bear I had seen. What a great childhood memory. I've known the words to that song and found the sheet music. My sister and always sang it together.

I just found a Smokey the Bear T-Shirt online, and had to have it. When it arrived yesterday, the chorus of the song came back to me, from the 50’s I lived near Washington, DC, and visited the REAL Smokey at the National Zoo, over many decades. I think this version and Gene Autry’s are the ones I like best. Thanks for posting this! And I like the Original slogan: “Only YOU can prevent Forest Fires!” (Now they say Wild Fires).

Forest fires in Japan are not widely reported, but they do occur every year. Most of them are small, but in the five years from 2012 to 2017, an average of 1,386 fires broke out.The average area burned by forest fires is 779 hectares, which is not a small area.
We would like to invite Eddy Arnold to visit Japan and spread the "Smokey the Bear Song".
