Hamr ('skin', 'shape'). It is used in the context of the hugr when it takes shape and shapeshifting. Those who are able to shapeshift are described as Old Norse: hamrammr ('shape strong')
In mythology, folklore and speculative fiction, shape-shifting is the ability to physically transform oneself through an inherently superhuman ability, divine intervention, demonic manipulation, sorcery, spells or having inherited the ability.

My grandparents ran a roping arena in Arizona in the 70s an 80s. The local Navajo Indian's would bring their horse's, and grandma would split the profit with them after the show's. Learned so much from them. Now Im back in Arkansas getting to know the history of the Cherokee while Im here, the forest spirit in the Ozarks is something else compared to any forest I've been.

Absolutely believe in Hamrammr and everything to do with it. Not in the aspect of physical changing but imbuing the spiritual essence of the animal that is part of your fathers bloodline. Like in a corny way Pokemon, just cause you have bear doesn't mean badassery bear, could be a cub or weaker versions. But of course our current ego is I have the ultimate level100 bear from the very beginning.

To become a berserker or úlfhéðinn/úlfhéðnar, there are stages one must go through. Killing the bear or wolf being one of them. You'd also have to go through what's called a hammrammr. You're basically being attached to the animals spirit, and it then takes you. The uncontrollable rage is believed to not come from any magical mushrooms, but a poisonous plant called Henbane, which could kill you.

But while Canada's indigenous like to be called First Nation people, USA indigenous like to be called Indians. Go out to the Rez and ask them yourself if you don't believe me. I believe in it. I want to thank you brother for educating me on my Germanic/Nordic roots, as an American those roots faded and sometimes I feel Europeans even make fun of us when we try to embrace those roots, and the roots I'm interested in are pre-Christian. I have studied Polynesian/Melanesian cultures and also American Indian(which I have mixed in from my father's side), Mayan/Aztec/Olmec, Incan and pre-Incan and the Indios through the Amazon, then of course my love for Asian cultures. I've come to the belief of Animism through this, and found all ancient cultures are connected.
Such a shame our minds have become so clouded through medications and poor food habits(especially us Yanks, I won't speak for other countries), as we go down this wormhole of technology, people have shut down the possibilities that lie within.

That's why Snorri said that Odin was a real human etc, to bypass hostility from the church. The only legal god was the christian god. Everything else was heresy.

I had a very interesting/scary experience during a magic mushroom ceremony. Normally mushrooms would only distort my vision and perception slightly. 10g taken in one go (blended with cranberry juice) induced a full blown hallucination, not just distorted lines and colors. I lost the ability to speak or think as a person would. I was reduced to animalistic behavior and could see myself physically transforming into some type of predatory animal. Not something I would recommend, but there is a theory about berserkers using mushrooms to induce the berserker rage. Just food for thought...

Here is a real event that makes me laugh buy I still struggle to understand exactly what it was.
I got talked into buying a bear tag. So I went
Bear hunting. The first BlackBerry patch I hit was in the Dog hair. (Short replanted trees) I started into a thicket. The hair on the back of my neak stood up.
I backed off about 100 yards and waited.
Sure enough. A big black Bear lumbered out.
I was glad I backed off. .Have you ever shot a bear. I couldn't bring myself to shoot the big old furry thing. It wondered off into the brush and I went home. A week later the bear moved onto the ridge top where I live.
It kept dumping over the garbage can, but beside scaring the crap out of me once in a while. Opening the front door to a bear.
    Was this Spiritual?

The Vikings never had a fleet of 500-700 ships.....and the number of soldiers 20,000-35,000. This is not confirmed by archaeological data......some ships have been found here and there....again we can conclude, that if there were 10-20 of them in a pile, that's already a lot.....that means never more than 800 to a maximum of 2000 people. Which is enough to burn and loot a few villages and one small town....before the real army comes and destroys them....so most likely their tactics consisted of quick incursions and an even quicker retreat.
